The ruling Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) on the Copperbelt has asked the Catholic Church to discipline Father Frank Bwalya for using the name of the church to insult President Rupiah Banda.
And the party has warned people who want to take advantage of this year being an election year to insult the Head of State at will, to desist from the act.
Provincial Information and Publicity Secretary Yotam Mutayachalo said the party will not sit idle and watch father Bwalya continue insulting President Banda.
Mr. Mutayachalo said what the catholic priest is doing is unacceptable and calls for the Bishops of the church to take disciplinary measures against him.
He said the party expects the church to act on the continuous insults by father Bwalya if they do not support his behavior which has also brought the name of the church into disrepute.
ZANIS reports that Mr. Mutayachalo reacting to father Bwalya’s sentiments during his rally held in Ndola yesterday.
He urged the catholic bishops to ensure that priests do not use the name of the church to insult others.
He said the priest should refrain from insulting the Republican President as doing so was provocative to the party members who are ready to take him on.
And provincial women’s chairperson Lizzy Bwalya advised Fr. Bwalya to repent and return to priesthood so that he concentrates on praying for the nation as it prepares for the tripartite elections.
Ms. Bwalya wondered why the catholic priest was the only person who has not seen the development that the MMD and President Banda have achieved.
MMD Kitwe district Chairperson George Lungu said the party is saddened by the insults from father Bwalya on President Banda because the party does not understand why a priest can have so much hate for the President.
Mr. Lungu said President Banda is the sitting Head of State and that father Bwalya should have respect for the office regardless of who is there.
Meanwhile, Mr. Mutayachalo has advised PF leader Michel Sata to familiarize himself with the electoral process so that he does not mislead people with results in this year’s election.
He said Mr. Sata should verify population figures with the Central Statistical Office and also know the number of registered voters in various areas.

I think as Zambians we need to really look seriously at ourselves and question what we did wrong to have this substandard priest, who does not understand any issues of national governance whatsoever to become a news maker trying to set the agenda of what people talk about. How did this happen?

Mutayachalo & MMD the issue of Fr Bwalya has been extensively tackled by the Church nothing more nothing less. The problems I found is that you MMD stooges Live on mass and not on earth where Zambia is. Zambia is plural democratic society where other than political parties there are other stakeholders such as individuals, civil society organisations.the Church, trade unions etc.in the running of the country and its not only the preserve of the party in power. The problem with cadres is that they fail to differentiate criticism from insults. Typical, and I mean very crude cadres also fail to understand democracy. They fail to understand that there can be people with very different views from their own. This does not only apply to low party cadres but also to high ranking cadres, including presidents of parties!!! Just a point of correction for MMD chief Bootlicker; Priesthood in the Catholic church is not for grade 12 dropouts. It is a very rigorous education programme of several years after passing grade 12 that many Zambians have failed to complete successfully. Let us at least be factual even if we don’t like the guy.

Father Bwalya is just a Bemba tribalist – no more needs to be said. Of course he is able to express himself freely as an INDIVIDUAL- what we are against is him using the Catholic church to further his own political ambitions and that is why the Vatican ambassador to Zambia stated last week that not all utterances from priests should be taken as the official position of the Catholic church.

Who is this i.d.i.o.t “MMD Chief Bootlicker”. If you are on MMD payroll, your days are numbered. Time will eventually catch up with you and your RB will not be around to defend or feed you because he will be in prison.
People continuously gauge and judge their leaders against accepted norms, and against the leaders’ own behaviour. This continues all the way up to the polling booth. The Priest aught to pray for the leaders, for that God would shower his blessings on the nation, spend many a day in fasting interceding that God would deliver the people from the pangs of hunger. What would move him to do so? The spirit of compassion which is Christ. But if instead of being in the closet to pray, he is burning his days on public forums and media not preaching peace but fanning resistance, it is most likely that what drives him is foreign to the true spirit of Christ. When he takes a partisan stance amongst his flock, is he not bringing division, especially so that he does it a provocative intonation? Where is Christ in his works?

If Bwalya was truly driven by compassion, he would know that the person is urging to rise to the Presidency is a patient with a debilitating heart condition which if he did (God forbid) will exacerbate the condition leading to certain death. The best thing for Bwalya to do would have been for him to discourage bashikulu from tiring himself in un-necessary strenuous activity such as the heavily taxing exercise traversing the entire country to lobby for votes at the expense of his loving wife who fears for his health. Worse still if he rose to the helm bearing in mind that he likes to have a say in everything regardless of others, how that this will put an absolutely impossible burden for his heart to bare. Would it not be kind for Bwalya to advise ba shikulu to relax in view of the risks?
If the man can’t stand insults he is in the wrong business. It would be much better for our President and his cronies to spend their time defending our right to freedom of speech and political discourse than to whine about what others say like silly children.
