UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) spokesperson Charles Kakoma says the Patriotic Front is stage-managing defections in Southern province to create a false impression that the UPND has lost ground in the province.
Mr Kakoma said the reported defections are not genuine, especially that it is the same people who are said to be defecting.
He said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that UPND is happy with its members because more people have defected from the PF.
Mr Kakoma said last month the party received a lot of defectors from PF in Lusaka.
“It is for this reason that UNPD can never be shaken by fake defections of the same people who are being paid to do that,” he said.
Mr Kakoma said the PF is belittling the UPND by announcing fake defections, which will not help in winning elections.
He said Southern Province is a stronghold of the UPND because of president Hakainde Hichilema’s good leadership.
Mr Kakoma said UPND will not concentrate on trivial issues like stage-managed defections.
He urged the people of Zambia to be careful with politicians paying them to stage fake defections, especially in Western and Southern provinces.
Mr Kakoma said the UPND will continue working on its agenda to support Mr Hichilema during and after the forthcoming elections.
He said the PF knows that it will never win elections in Zambia, which is why it has continued to incite violence.
He said UPND members should continue supporting Mr Hichilema.

Don’t cheat yourselves like you do in every election. Not talking about a political party does not mean its finished. It is a way of avoiding conflicts. If anything, PF supporters are violent and abusive in their talking but the truth remains. What happens in the booth is what matters and there no one is forced.
it is like PF is already in power. the antagonists are just too many. all opposition parties are fighting against PF instead of MMD. 2) Hold rallies in places frequented by the youths with voter registration cards, especially Lusaka & copperbelt, Kids love you there
3) Hold rallies in North Western, West , Central & Northern & Luapula, Ignore Eastern Province

Many have waken up, this is not 1991 or 2001, as small tribes in Zambia have realised that they would rather vote for any one non-Bemba than a Bemba, because many Bembas call them names such as tribalists when they stand for presidency. What Sata started will one day divide the nation if we are not careful, and this man really is a danger to Zambia. When Kavindele stood as MMD vice- president, the same sata said North-Westerners cannot rule anyone as they are buttocks which will never be in front, Inonge Wina stood for preseidency in her party Agenda for Zambia and the same Sata said she is a tribalist with a secret agenda for Zambia, and now it is HH who is called a tribalist by the same old man Sata. #48 Do not praise Mazoka now that he is dead, is it not Sata and Chiluba who campaigned on the Copperbelt that do not vote for Mazoka who is Tonga, Mwakulalanda efitundu. If you voted for Mazoka the way all tribes did for Chiluba in 1991, he could have won the elections. The peoblem with us Bembas is that we feel so superior for others, but this time around no matter how we can beautify ourselves, many are aware of our tricks and will not vote for Sata. One trend i have seen on LT over the years,is that if an article comes up that involves UPND,the tibal sentiments that fly arround are sickening.If there is an article involving either MMD or PF the contributions seem to be more civilised.This begs me to ask the only agenda on the menu for UPND,is tribe and age it seems. Let me give counsel to everyone. We should all know that there are intermarriages. Where do we put Tongas who have married Bembas and vice-versa? Anything good needs to be appreciated. Let us give credit where it is due; HH is the next President come what may. If UPND managed to grab 3 parliamentary seats from MMD and PF only managed to grab 1, which party is stronger?
