President Rupiah Banda has expressed happiness with the Zambian Labour force whom he described as hard working and have managed to win accolades internationally.

President Banda who said this today during the commemoration of Labour Day held at the Freedom Statute in Lusaka today added that Zambian workers had won praises from foreigners concerning their hard working spirit.

Mr. Banda said this year’s Labour Day theme’ Creating Secure Employment with Freedom, Equity and Human dignity” was well thought and called on the labour force in the country to be united for the benefit of the country.

Mr. Banda said Government was proud of its workers and that his administration will continue motivating its employees for their dedicated service to the country.

ZANIS reports that the President said that the country had continued recording unprecedented growth in the economy because of the hard working spirit of Zambian workers.

Mr. Banda stated that the country was developing economically in many sectors of the economy because of dedicated Civil Servants whom he noted put in the best for Zambia.

He attributed the good performance of the Agriculture, Mining, Health, Education sectors among others to a dedicated team of farmers, teachers, doctors, nurses and miners saying they were putting in the best in developing the country’s economy.

Mr. Banda pledged that Government would continue implementing good labour laws favourable to Zambian workers for the country’s continued economic growth for the benefit of all Zambians.
He said Zambia had continued recording foreign investment of over two billion dollars in 2010 and over 18 000 new business investment ventures as a good for Zambia.

The President said Zambia had also continued wooing foreign investment to the country because of Government’s good economic policies adding that the trend should continue.

Speaking at the same occasion, Zambia Congress of Trade Unions President Leonard Hikaumba said though Government was making strides in improving the welfare of its workers in the country, he said there was need for it to accelerate coordinated action to create decent sustainable jobs and safeguard existing ones.

Mr. Hikaumba noted that Government should ensure adequate social protection, raise wages and purchasing power of workers in order to eradicate poverty and insecurity, promote education for all in the country.

He said Government should create more jobs for many millions of Zambians with skills who were currently unemployed and were suffering.

Mr. Hikaumba said Workers’ rights were human rights and that promoting and defending them was and would remain a priority for the worker’s movement.

The ZCTU President also called on all youth in the country to denounce violence as the country heads towards elections.

Mr Hikaumba equally implored politicians in the country to conduct clean politics by advising their supporters not to engage in violence as this was detrimental to the nation.

He said Zambians should embrace peace in this year’s elections and warned youths not to be swayed by greedy politicians who might expose them to problems.

Zambia Federation of Employers President Alfred Masupha said the Association would always endeavour to promote social dialogue among its affiliates adding that the organisation believed in maintaining industrial and labour relations, peace and tranquility.

Mr. Masupha said his organisation also acknowledged the need to strengthen social dialogue mechanisms and institutions as a means of realising participatory democracy.

He added that the organisation believed that this year’s Labour Day Celebrations would be realised through promotion of dialogue on the Labour market and that workers would be able to engage management in their respective enterprises and express their views freely.

  1. The country is being mocked here in glasgow because we are all over the place, Why dont we get a little more organised. Pathetic

    • :”>mushota are you happy in your marriage or has the jenkem in old peoples poop gotten to your head?

  2. i do believe entirely that some African leaders are power drunk and i believe that they are because of the following reasons, poverty, family backgrounds, and lastly the need to show off their wealth.we need a orient the new generation of Zambian children about the need to put nation first before family and persona.Pride is a hob in African culture.People earn respect in various forms and once the respect is established, the fear of failure sets in, and they will do anything it takes to retain that position. That is typical African mentality not just the presidents. Thanks

  3. This is bull s h i t the country has gone bananas big time, those that are in formal employment are either employed as slaves or flex labour. as for the praises being heaped on the majority of hard working zambians by foriegners can only happen to zambians in diaspora not at home, back home i don’t see a scenario where a chinese slave master would appreciate the good work perfomed by a Zambian instead he will see problems and thus reward him /her with a bullet on the skull. this is rubbish mr. president any way your time is up this year.

  4. Being able to criticize what is wrong instead of pretending everything is okay is a sign of strength and true patriotism. We should each feel ashamed of what is wrong and try to make it better. But we should also see the positive things and feel proud of those. But the work is never completed. It is the awareness of the fine and decent aspects that motivates us to keep trying, hence my criricism on my country. Another part of me says You tell me just one reason i shouldnt be ashamed of my country zambbia and i will call you a liar.
    Thanks

  5. our pf government will employ all zambians within 90 days and pay them k16.5million each. But we don’t know how many zambians are out there because we will abolish cso.

  6. RB is waiting for the AGOA to take place. rumour has it after that he will announce the election date

  7. This is the biggest JOKE of the week, from this peasant farmer cum chancer president. Yes Zambians are hardworking and given a minimum wage of less than $100/-. This is total bullshi’t and a f’ool like Rupiah should not play on our fellow brothers and sisters minds. Have just come back from the middle east and could see a sharp contrast in the way they manage there own resources (Crude Oil), as opposed to ours. My hope is President Sata will bring sanity to this lack of leadrship and direction we currently have in this Country

  8. If Sata can’t be presdent how is Gulumutu Kutukwana tukwana banzace managing? he holds the record of being the most failed farmer who’s life was rescued from life support system in intensive care unit of the Malambo velds by the late Levy Patrick Mwanwasa state council and president of the republic of Zambia (MHSRIP)

  9. I usually do not comment on whether President Sata will be a good or bad President, since he’s never been one and has never been tested before. I have resolved and urge you to do that, as we did with this peasant farmer “Njala yamuchita mambala” peasant farmer cum president. Let’s all vote for President Sata and see what he does in 5 years

  10. Ok Bwezani, lets look at it this way:
    1. Too many ‘mother’s day’ off by woman employees
    2. Too much time wasted chatting on cell phone while clients are waiting
    3. Any excuse can suffice for reporting late for work
    5. Not properly defined knocking off time as workers start going home around 4pm
    6. Too many professional mourners at work places. Attending funerals all the time
    7. Too much debate in the offices. Its ‘let the people talk’ all the time
    8. ‘Work as you earn’ mentality but some don’t even deserve to be on the pay roll
    9. Extended lunch time
    10. Always irritable and shouting at clients
There are some good hard working guys out there who are genuinely frustrated but a change of work attitude is definitely needed. Bwezani should view Mwanawasa’s recorded will.

  11. Yes we re hard working bt words wont do we need chelete baba, otherwise namwabene mwaawama ififine.

  12. people of zambia please vote wisely and get rid of bwezani and the mmd if our country is to move forward from this crap

  13. Yes Zambians are hardworking but your government is paying them peanuts and hence they are thieving to survive or rather engaging in illicit activities in their place of work to make ends meet. Workers earning as little as $100 per month, that is an insult and how people survive one wonders! Improve their salaries and condition of services and revise the tax system to show you really appreciate their services!

  14. Ok let’s go! Daily mail is reporting that Sata is fundraising from gays organisation overseas, What nonsense!!. How about this revelation then, that Dora Siliya bought a house worth R45,000,000 in Sandton; sound absurd but only true. I know it’s true because i live in the same area and i know the where abouts of this same property.

  15. What is Zambian employees track record? People are shot at for demanding a decent wage by Chines investors and even when bullets are removed at UTH, the culprits go scotch free for lack of evidence!! The minimum wage is a mockery and despite that, many people get way below this wage. The Zambian worker is merciliessly taxed at over 30% while foreign investors who come to exploit our resources are given tax concessions in the face of unprecedented high ommodity proces. WHAT IS RB TALKING ABOUT? HIS WORDS ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FROM HIS DEEDS. DOES HE READ THESE SPEECHES WRITTEN FOR HIM BEFORE HE COMES OUT TO READ THEM IN PUBLIC? ITS EITHER HE HAS NO TIME TO READ THEM, OR IF HE DOES, HE DOES NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT HE READS OR HE HAS NO SENSE OF SHAME.
