Kapoche Member of Parliament Fashion Phiri says he expects improved School attendance at Kamjoma Basic School after successful construction of a multi-million kwacha 120 meters foot bridge in Kamjoma area.

Mr. Phiri said the development has come at the right time as it will help improve class attendance at the school and motivate the pupils to learn more.

The Parliamentarian , who is also Foreign Affairs Deputy Minister, said School attendance was in the recent past poor as a result of floods during every rainy season.

The situation forced some pupils to eventually discontinue their education.

Professor Phiri said it was governments desire to ensure that children from rural areas have an equal opportunity of accessing quality education.

He said this during a handover of a multi-miilion kwacha 120 kilometers foot bridge constructed by the Rotary Club of Nkwazi.

And the club’s Director for Bridges for Prosperity, Zoe Kaone says her club has spent over US $ 30,000 Cable Foot-bridge project in Kamjoma area in Kapoche constituency in Petauke district.

She said the project has been completed successfully in partnership with the New Port News Rotary club of Virginia in the United States.

” We are particularly grateful to the government of the Republic of Zambia and also the rotary club of New Port for the construction of the first ever cable suspension foot bridge in Eastern province,” she said.

The 120 meters modern facility Foot Bridge at Kamjoma has changed the face of the area adding that Kamjoma would now become popular because of the foot bridge.

  1. Prof this is good development. We shall vote again Nafuti nafuti awisi mphundu a banda mpaka asilizye ulando wawo wa chitukuko ndi mtendere. Those who hate him for the good work he is doing can hang. For us its wapya munzi. Only fools would want His Excellency Banda out when other Presidents have done,27yrs, 10yrs 7yrs why should he be the one to do 2yrs kulibe mubepelefye!!!!.

  2. Zambian we are really behind, how can start praise RB just for a footbridge. No wonder our country will never be developed. Lord remove aba bakolwe ba MMD from power. The other point that shows that we are still behind is that. Whenever the President is leaving the country, all the Ministers are at the airport instead in the office working. In other countries you wont see vice President or Minister seeing off the President, you won’t even know that the President was out of the country. Zambian let us wake up

  3. Fashion shut up , he is the worst MP kapoche has ever had, we had Charles Banda now in PF waiting to take over. Mwaona mavoti alipafupi thus when we can just read about you, mwenzekuni baba!!! Footbridge 120m long or my foot show us pictures pela so we can asess its structuraal integrity at the same time how do u appraise for a footbridge in a rural area where pipos normal form of transport nimanjinga, oxcarts, open vans etc all these form of transport will never use your useless bridge. Imwe banthu why u dont do feasibility studies before commissioning a project??? Footbridges are built in heavily trafficked areas to allow pedestrians reach their destinations faster also but in areas over highways /expressways speed of cars to be 100km/h and above . How do you put afoot bridge when the ma

  4. main road innaccessible. How will pipo cross the footbridge mu oxcart? Iam told the Kapoche MP is a proffessor??//? check this out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! prepare your exit together na DORA.

  5. Ya i think its a typing error. 120kms bridge. Petauke District as a whole is almost 120km radius. In any case thats good development if the road is accessible as well.

  6. Ati 120km footbridge pliz? Handing over? But this reporting kaya mwe, which river or hole is this footbridge spanning pliz

  7. Good development Professor Phiri, but I cannot help but notice that the intiative for this bridge came from Rotary Club with support from Virginia. It would have been nice if you had provided part of your CDF allocation to support this project, that way, you could truly claim that you are bringing development to your area. Having said that, I am glad that the people in your area are benefitting from these much needed services.

  8. Well done Prof F.Phiri,

i visited kapiche a week ago and it is a job well done.
im happy to see that after you became our Mp,things are progressing.
if people who arent educated cant see whats happening.
    God is for you.
there is a saying, small minds talk about people.
the greatest minds ignore comments that are foolish and do what they know is right.
to that person that said shutup to Fashion…what have you done…that when you die people will remember….huh?
    Congrats Mr Phiri.

  9. as for the absence of pictures so as to convince somebody of the existence of the footbridge in Kapoche, where is your faith? are you doubting thomases?if you are take a trip to Kapoche and see for yourself…if you doubt…:”>

  10. to the those who dont know what education is about…as a Professor, one suspects that instead of appraing one self… hon.Phiri, is letting the work show itself. He doesnt need to convince silly people what he has done or is doing, for what is going on in Kapoche is being seen by the villagers. What Prof has not said is that the lobbying and ssourcing of funds for the footbridge was done by himself, a situation which is a fact..

  11. Bravo Prof, i live in Anchorage, and i have seen your work.any effective Mp should also be pre-occupied with lobbying and sourcing of funds for development.
No wonder the Rotary Club has even acknowledged his role on its footbridge placard…if you know what that means….lol

  12. bridges for prosperity as the name suggests, is one form of development which has proved to be a success story the world over.
Eudcation is given a high priority by MMD and RB government. During the rainy season, the bridge will serve pupils, men and women(including those using bicycles) to attend school and to seek medical services at Chaka Clinic if such a service is not a development in the eyes and minds of some pipo, then their ignorance is bliss….silly…

  13. Hon.Prof.Phiri, you have done a marvelous job on the footbridge and i must congratulate you.
the article focused on just one among many aspects of development in Kapoche-footbridge, MTN Services,Airtel in Mwajabantu. if those in oppostion hope to win in Kapoche, it is their democratic right to DREAM!!!, so SWEET DREAMS….LOL /:)

  14. well done Prof Phiri. we have seen the work you have done in Kapoche.i come from there i have seen alot of development happen since you became our Mp. these are the following: roads, bridges, schools(including a high school being constructed), clinics (katema, etc) boreholes and communication networks(MTN, AIRTEL) which you have done in a record 2 + -. opposition stands no chance…you are a breeze of fresh air….in Kapoche.
Thankyou and God bless…hope to see many more developments….YES YOU CAN!!!

  15. Prof Phiri,2011 Nafuti Nafuti!!!!!! You have done far more than past Kapoche Mps did in their five years or more of office!!!! You are our MAN…NAFUTI NAFUTI TUMU VOTELA A MP WATU!!!!
