Inconsistency mar school feeding programmes in Mambwe district

Acting Mambwe District Medical Officer Golden Mwase says inconsistence has greatly affected food examination under the school feeding programmes (SFPs) in Mambwe district in eastern province.

Mr Mwase stated that the government officials were not able to carry out examinations because of inconsistence on volunteers who handled food under the programme.

ZANIS reports that Mr Mwase said according to health regulation all food handlers were supposed to be examined and treated when necessary to avoid contamination.

He noted health personnel in the area had a big challenge because different volunteers prepared food for pupils adding that there was need to identify the same people to be entrusted with the preparation of food.

And Mambwe District commissioner Philimino Banda advised school authorities to ensure that the same volunteers were entrusted in the handling of food.

Mr Banda stated that when volunteers were healthy then pupils would be ensured of food free from contamination.
