FORMER republican vice-president Lupando Mwape says he is still a faithful member of the MMD and has condemned people trying to alienate him from the party.

Mr Mwape said in a telephone interview yesterday he resigned as party trustee in 2006 to facilitate his appointment into the diplomatic service by then President Levy Mwanawasa.

“You can assure the nation that I am a faithful member of the party, and I shall remain loyal to the government and the people of Zambia. I have never gone on any platform to announce that I am not MMD. I have never relinquished my membership,” he said.

He said the government is doing very well under President Banda, and needs encouragement.

The former vice-president, who was Zambia’s ambassador to China from 2006 to 2009, thanked President Banda for allowing him to complete his contract when he assumed the presidency in 2008.

He said people expected President Banda to recall him from diplomatic service, but the President allowed him to complete his three-year contract.

“I wasn’t fired or recalled. I am grateful to the President because he would have recalled me. But he allowed me to complete my contract. What else can one do but appreciate?” Mr Mwape said.

He said he wants to lead a quiet life because he does not want to cause any political controversies.

“I want to remain a loyal member of the MMD, but lead a quiet life until I am approached. I am a politician, and if I am approached by any political party that feels I have a role to play, I will make my position known,” Mr Mwape said.

He said he was shocked by the way he was misquoted by a private tabloid on the remarks he made recently in Ndola at the burial of former Zambia Postal Services Corporation postmaster general Chewe Lupili.

Mr Mwape said he was even more surprised at the reactions to the report, with no-one approaching him to give his side of the story.

  1. This is expected of Great Leaders. They seek to build than run away when it heats up. Sure, you are too old to be a rolling stone. Wish you well.

  2. MR LUPANDO HANGING ON TO MMD WILL NOT HELP YOU ANYMORE BECAUSE IT IS TOO LATE NOW AS MMD IS SLOWLY SINKING AWAY.MADALA JUST JOIN THE PF BOAT IN YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A JOB OTHERWISE JUST RETIRE AND ENJOY THE MONEY YOU MADE UNDER MMD..GOD BLESS YOU..

  3. No. 2 KACHIGAMBA- Amen! Lupando wants to eat from both hands from the highest bidder! Unfortunately, his time has come and gone! From his previous position of Vice President, the only position is President of MMD!

  4. Katoloshi…. its better for you to keep quiet that to sart issuing comments that are not founded. ati which ever party can come…. Farming is good mudala and you can make more

  5. simply don’t talk to the post, that is the cure to being misquoted. mmembe is on the warpath for his master of lies.

  6. Aha Katiti Katoloshi chali kale.Ala twalyumfwile ilyashi ati RB atile ati namukota yama.Good ala just concentrate on farming you never know what tomorrow might bring.Even RB went into farming until the late state counsil called him.

  7. whom do you expect to approach you Sir if your own people whom you failed to help dont. Unless you are appointed to represent Zambia to another country, you will never serve anyone in this country. You were once given chance as MP to be the voice of the voice less but misused it. We cant have the the voice to speak to the nation, but to you, panono sana. We will continue dismantling the bridge you will need to cross so that you remain where you are. Enjoy the money you’ve made.:x

  8. I think Lupando is right mwiponta mukabwela Sata can never employ all the vultures and bandits who would want to endorse him just for the job imagine abena kabwili ,Mumbi being left out for Panji or Mulongoti/Chintala.He is a principled Madala by deciding to lead a quite life

  9. How can someone lead a quiet life when he is anticipating for offers from political parties?? ba Lupando just be honest, you still want to be in power. What exactly have you done for your country when you represented us in that booming economy of China???

  10. Mudala bamitila manzi ba MMD and you were left with no option but to issue a dry statement. Careful u dont play around with state machinery or you melt.

  11. Actually, we learnt Lupando had messed up in China that’s why he was unceremoniously brought back. Anyway, the man has lost it. He craves for the power he had. I think Mwanawasa was right for choosing Rupiah over him. And if Rupiah is prefered over you, then you just know how useless you are!

  12. Can we verify these words by katoloshi?
“I was called back from foreign service in China by the President and the reason
I was given was that I was old. I was recalled one year and ten months ago and I
am at my farm in Kasama because I am old, I have left the ‘young’ ones like
President Banda who is 74 years old to work since they are young and I am
    old,” he said.

  13. Just recently, Nyangu uttered these words i am meant to believe and i quote.
    Shut up, MMD tells Lupando

    TIME PUBLISHED – Thursday, May 12, 2011, 8:10 am

Former Vice-President Lupando Mwape should disclose the real reasons behind his recall from China where he was serving as ambassador, the MMD has said.

MMD deputy national secretary Chembe Nyangu said in a statement yesterday that his party finds Mr Mwape’s “cowardly and veiled” attack on President Banda in yesterday’s edition of The Post “irresponsible, misleading and uncalled for”.
He said those who are privy to details behind his recall find his statement “hilarious”.

“Mr Mwape should shut up before he disgraces himself further

  14. “Mr Mwape’s statement on President Banda’s government is coming from an extremely bitter and ungrateful heart,” Mr Nyangu said.

He said Mr Mwape should stop apportioning his own failures on innocent people including President Banda.

“Mr Mwape is entirely to blame for his recall. He cannot point a finger at anyone. It is saddening that Mr Mwape chose to vent his frustrations at a funeral,” Mr Nyangu said.

  15. So it simply means Lupando is suffering from amnesia as he has categorically forgotten that the MMD issued a statement to counter his and who are we to disbelieve the MMD who are owners of Lupando? Nyangu and the chap from Northern prov, says one thing that this chap was recalled

  16. Zero Option you r the one! Mr Mwape should not think that the reporter from the post was stupid and ended up misquoting him. While I am a careful and selective news reader of the Post, awe tata mwalilandile. Bushe kwena umuntu kuti afilwa ukumfwa ifyo mwalandile mwebene? Elyo ba Katoloshi wesu, moneni ifyalandile Chembe Nyangu pali imwe. Bushe cine fye ni old age yalengele ukuti mubwele ku CHAINA?

  17. TOO LATE BA MWAPE. DE-DAMAGE IS ALREAD DONE. YOU WERE TOO EXCITED AT A FUNERAL. YOU COMMITTED NKOTE-CIDE. AT YOUR AGE AM NOT SURPRISED. SHIKULU NAMUKOTA!

  18. So either the POST lied or as usual anything anti RB is gospel for them…we are voting this year no two ngwee fat desk lawyers, accounts insurance clerks posing as scribes whilst reading shibukeni at law, or indeed limping failed wanna bee scribes will sway our vote…we are sending all lairs and hungry men who despite holding high office in government still feed off their parents, WHERE they belong in retirement until 2016 when they will start ranting again

  19. Its true Lupando was fired and moreover he failed to scoup a sit under MMD but the late president Mwanawasa may his soul rest in peace decided against the will of the constitution and even his surpoters to appoint Lupando into the diplomatic of which he showed to be a failure. In short like Nevers Mumba, Lupando will have to plead from whoever he thinks can help them but my request is to them and retire of course they already have enough money

  20. In the EYES of the Post and some catholic priests it is OK to call others FOOLS, STUPID but it is not ok to call SATA FOOLISH. In the EYES of the Post Mr. Sata is the MOST WISEST man in Zambia, if not the whole world. In the EYES of the Post, NO one in Zambia should dare TALK about Mr. Sata`s history because doing so is as good as having sex with a female minor. In the EYES of the POST, PF is the only party that should rule Zambia this year evenif it means bringging war among Zambians. That is the POST for you my dear.

  21. Iwe Katoloshi Lupando, utuhela bupyeha wa tusabila yebo suntwe pe! Is it a job you’re looking for? Then you’re looking for it in the wrong place because this Kanitundila you’re sliming to is losing his job in a few months, kuya bebele.

  22. WHAT ABOUT SOME COMMENTS ON THE ASSERTION BY MMD THAT YOU MISMANAGED FUNDS AT THE ZAMBIAN EMBASSY IN CHINA? COULD IT BE THREATS OF BEING PROBED THAT HAS MOTIVATED YOUR DRAMTIC TURN AROUND

  23. Maybe the misquote Lupando is taking about is a misunderstanding. He thot it would mean something else wen saying those words. But all the same, he said it and we’ve understood.

  24. This is not news.

Lets talk about real things like Sata’s recent renewed commitment to nationalising the mines and deporting Indians and Lebanese. He has left out the Chinese because they are about to give him money to finance campaigns. Now he loves them and wants them to buy up more mines.

Lets talk about how these actions will affect Zambians today and in the future!

Time to get real and stop politiking!

  25. The Post misquotes everyone, so why were you surprised?

#29 yes, Sata is likely to die in office, the man has all types of medical complications, from his heart to his skin. The man could even die even before the elections. During his recent trip to London, Sata spent 2 day doing medical test… the man could die anytime.

  26. @31, Are you Almighty God to have such a thorough conclusion? Even babies fews hours after birth die apparently with no health complications. Some people die many years after they have been diagnosed with heart problems. By the way our constitution which is going to be used in this years elections does not recognize medical tests before elections for any one but later when they are holding office. so your lawyer must be daft to advise chimba that such points will help pin sata. morever, where did he get the medical report which is deemed a private document only made available at the authority of the patient? lets stop cheap politics and look at what must be done in zambia to avoid people stealing govt money.

  27. #32, i don’t think that Sata’s patched heart can take the stress that comes with campaigning, the man might just be sick soon. However, even Sata was very healthy, history tells us that Zambian have always rejected him and i don’t see him taking the presidency this year. And i don’t think that Sata would stop the stealing of public funds, the man is more corrupt than you think. Ask him how he acquired his houses in Avondale…., he will insult you on that.

And please, don’t believe in his 90day economic miracles, it has never happened anywhere in the world, it takes years to grow an economy.

  28. This is really embarrasing , we shud investigate him how he became VP of zambia in Cabbage era because from what he is saying now i conclude he was not suitable for the Job. Who doesnt know that he was fired? in china by RB for supporting PF in the Kasama by election where GBM won?

  29. Ba Lupando. You are welcome to the MMD dustbin called PF. We welcome anyone that is able to directly or indirectly insult MMD. Pa Bwaaaamba. Sorry. I meant pa bwaaato

  30. # 14, The’re many ways of verifying these words since they were said at a gathering and one would have expected the Hon. to have reacted immediatelty since he was able to read the Post the next day. Those words sounded very undiplomatic.

  31. Typical of a Zambian man, unreliable un repentable, full of lies a joke above all. Most Zambian men have no integrity whatsoever and this man epitomises that. I keep reminding people that it is for this reason that most of us good looking ‘must have’ women we have ended up getting foreign men because we are being let down badly by these men, who deny the undeniable. Pathetic. Thanks

  32. If I were Mr.Sata’s relative I would advise him to feel pity on himself and rest. He is surely over working himself bane. How many times has he been to SA for medicals. This time its London. Soon we shall be told he is in US for medicals. PF Kaponyas plz advise your man to rest, stress kills.

  33. Mr Mwape you are bemba just confirm you have joined your joined your tribesman. FULLSTOP..Otherwise we all now know what to expect.

  34. Iwe ka Mushota! Fu*k you and your impotent Scottish pig. Only authentic Zedian d*ck (strong, proud and free) can trully make a woman happy. You are just scared of getting a real good round couse you’re kinky and frigid. Nizako.

  35. If you were misquoted, can you tell us exactly what you said. What did you say, and how did you say it? The MMD National Secretary when he reacted to your story, he threatened to reveal to the nation the reasons behind your removal from the diplomatic service. You can’t fool us ba Katoloshi

  36. Thats what great men do.You dont just run around so that you remain in politics like Sata. There is a time to settle down.Dont join Sata as he is too old to nurture any vision for our country.MMD is still a good party except for RB and afew old brains. You can stay there or join HH who seems to be civil. All Sata knows is insults thats why he fired a lot of MPs within his pf.A connfused leader who smokes daga

  37. Thoze of you scandalizing The Post over the Lupando Mwape story would do well to remember a similar incident concerning VJ in Congo DR.
So if this Katoloshi wants to “come clean” withe MMD, he better be sure he was misquoted.

  38. misquoted ka?what a boring story this is and not worth commenting on.They is still more important issues to debate on like analysing all presidential candidates so that people can decide a suitable leader for this nation.Otherwise hoodwinking people will remain the order of the day.

  39. I thought so. Lupando Mwape is a sober and mature character who after being VEEP and ambasador in the MMD govt cannot sink so low and join the noisy muppets in PF. As for the post we know what a gutter gay paper it is. No sane Zambian today pays much attention to what they write. No wonder Miyanda had entered into an agreement with them that they should never publish what he says or perceive to have said unless he has put it in writing and given them a copy. They always twist the truth.

  40. sorry countrymen, they have just promised me another appointment in the foreign service as you know me and my family need to eat also.

  41. That’s what politicians do the world over; wait to see where the tide heads. Mwape, good positioning.

  42. He looks like Chiluba, are they Brothers? It is a free country look for a Job from Mr R Banda, Mr Mwape. Iam told you were a good VP and Ambassador.
