The United Party for National Development (UPND) has charged that President Rupiah Banda has started abusing his powers for personal gains.
UPND party deputy spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa says the recent launching of various development projects by government are an indication of desperate measure to hoodwink voters in the coming general elections.
Mr. Mweetwa says any development to the Zambians is welcome provided that it is done within the normal cause of operations to benefit the poor people.
He says it is surprising that the head of state has only remembered that Zambians are suffering now that the country is heading for the polls.
He explained that people go through a lot of challenges which should be addressed with urgency and not when the time the elections draws near.
Mr. Mweetwa further says Zambians should not be taken for granted by enticing them with empowerment in exchange for their votes.

PF is the only hope and the change we need in Zambia.
UPND is the only party with credible leaders as it has proved it through its manifesto and developmental plan
RB+SATA=0. This is not development we want. Common things between RB and Sata. Both are UNIP, both are 74 years old, both have health problems – sata heart, RB knee, both are failures, both have no program for Zambia, both can not run for 10 minutes, both may have dementia due to old age etc.
PF can not be the hope we need. It can offer an alternative if we changed the Presidence. It would be very costly to have SATA as President. This guy dd a lot of wrong during Chiluba govt. to list a few:
a)
. K2.0 billion stolen from national assembly to finance MMD convention when he was national Secretary organising the convention. b) The K200 million over the counter cheque to Print the 1996 constitution. a documment which was supposed to be printed by govt, it was being done by mmd. c) Chawama masacre when the opposition won the election he matched with pangas, spears, and guns to injure inocent pipo. d) Merzaf corruption scandle. e) Mellium Village corruption scandle f) The 3rd term crisis g) support of the Presidential slush fund and its corruption….the list goes on.
Ba Sata bena awe, twakana. Currently only UPND makes sense unless the Pa Fwaka boss is replaced.
AT LEAST WE HAVE SOME SENSE FROM UPND…………BUT LETS WAIT & SEE WHAT WILL COME NEXT FROM THIS PARTY WHICH IS NOW HIGHLY UNPREDICTABLE………
FOR ONCE, WE HAVE SENSE COMING FROM UPND……….BUT THESE PEOPLE ARE NOW VERY UNPREDICTABLE………..ANYTHING GOES FOR UPND…..NO DIRECTION…..THEIR PRESIDENT IS BUSY CAMPAIGNING FOR MMD, WHILE THEIR MEMBERS ARE CAMPAIGNING FOR HH…. TOTAL CONFUSION….
This is common knowledge. The people will speak silently through the ballot. The MMD has shown itself for the bunch of vagabond hobos it is. No amount of intimidation or sugar-coating is going to make the electorate for an additional 5 years of strife endured in the previous 20. Rupia Bozo Banda the fat clown can kiss a** all he wants. Even his wife won’t vote for him. Rascals
Commissioning a project means nothing if it’s only a ploy to hoodwink the gullible village id/iots from out of town. Every year as we have seen, the wise, educated, working elite living in our “lavish” towns give a vote of ‘no confidence’ to the MMD.
Then the dull, impoverished, starving apes in the rural areas just manage to somehow bring the MMD back into government. The best bet here is to exterminate all those pauper rodents from rural Zambia. That way the sane in towns can have their way by ousting this Man Made Danger democratically.
We’ve had it with these small tribal chiefs and their village headmen failing to vote like the normal people in towns.
Rupiah Bozo Banda is nothing more than a rogue bandit just like FTJ the little insect pest who rocks Regina’s bed. When you are woken up in the middle of the night on a farm in rural Zambia to go and lead a mighty nation, you have to put on your full armor and do so with all your might. Not the nonsense we’ve been seeing from this RB flying around on useless trips to woe investors of communist regimes who come to underpay your kindred, making slaves out of of your own people.
Sick and tired of the MMD, screw them and the horses they ride on
Donchi ukubeba!
These crooks in MMD think zambians are so dull to see through their stupid schemes. We will show then that we are the owners of the zambia Plc.
UPND is ONLY there to split votes.
A regional party cannot win the elections. When we talk about change UPND thinks we are playing.
ONLY PF and MICHAEL SATA BRING THE BADLY WANTED CHANGE.
VIVA SATA and PF come 2011.
Beware of small tribal UPND which just split votes.
Talking about regional parties…its seems now there are only certain tribes which are supposed to head political parties otherwise it willbe called regional!…i
UPND is the only hope for Zambia! Vote HH and UPND
Iye mwebantu, kuti walila!
The man became President in 2008, on an MMD manifesto of 2006 and a budget of 2007, which had been presented by Magande. For most of 2008, the President’s illness and subsequent death absorbed the nation. In 2009, his appointe Minister presented the budget on continuity theme. So he carried on what has been called ‘Mwanawasa’s projects.’ Now, he starts his own projects, they cry foul, because it is election year. If there was enough money spare to do Mwanawasa’s projects and start something new, one would understand but where would the money have come from? This is a very strange cynicism that must be condemned. Opposition parties should be pleased FOR the people that there is development. Ni nsanje cabe.
Like i’ve said before it matters not who’s in power. Embezzlement is done by all it is their nature.
efyo twalandile ati ikalenifye mu PACT. By now we would be all happy and waiting for the elections. Nomba apa kulifye vote splitting……..mwikapapa!
#3 Well articulated, most of our citizens needs to reminded of the past. This is very painfull past, but a true reality.
I will stand for the 2016 Elections. I will introduce myself later. Maybe we can have some sanity in Zambian politics!
Winter is with us. It this time of the year that we will see Patriotic F00ls jackals really getting mad. Just make sure you are not bitten by them.
UPND IS THE ONLY CREDIBLE PARTY IN ZAMBIA WHETHER YOU LIKE OR NOT I DONT CARE WHO SUPPORTS WHICH PARTY. GOD BLESS ZAMBIA
Nkhani zamu kachasu…………………………
:-? HH IS OUR OBAMA FOR 2011 ELECTIONS. VIVA HHHHHHHHHHHHHHH AND UPND. WE LOVE YOU
Can this UPND person be more specific as to his charges of RB enriching himself? Why make baseless accusations? So RB is damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t. If he brings about development it is either because of Mwanawasa (although the man has been dead for close to three years) or he is merely electioneering (ignoring the fact that a party is elected to serve for 5 years) and now we have baseless and quite slanderous accusations of RB embarking on development projects simply to enrich himself!! Really, Zambian opposition lacks direction.
Keep dreaming! FIFA just re-elected sepp Blatter for another term and Zambia will re-elect RB for the second term in office.Mr Mwitwa u r just a failure, for your information u failed law at UNZA and u did nothing for student when u were unzasu president. the problem with you is that u have no idea what development is and how RB has been working since 2008.,,our president has been implementing sustainble development projects zambia has ever seen since she was born in1964..so Mr Mwitwa stop your silly accusations,,RB is a MAN.
Ba “Academic” warriory mukapena nayo iyi tribalism mutemenwe
# 22 Anti-corruption,
You are quite right, Sepp Blatter has been ‘re-elected unopposed’ as FIFA president, and it is interesting that this mockery is similar to Rupiah Banda’s ‘unopposed election’ at the MMD/UNIP convention. Blatter is a corrupt and power hungry individual going for nearly two decades as FIFA president and Rupiah Banda too is hungry for power and will refuse to let go. Both FIFA and Zambia are now in total mess.
#12“Academic” warriory, So if Sata gets a lot of votes in Northern province its tribalism? if Chiluba got more votes in Luapula its tribalism, If RB gets more votes in eastern province its tribalism? What do you then call a situation where almost all northerners vote for Sata and almost no one votes for HH?
These are non issues. The enemy is poverty and we should simply look at quality. We need to deal with an economy here so as to eradicate poverty and our strategy should be systmatic (Not populist guess work).
We have a choice to make now and a mistake made now may only be corrected after five years if at all a chance will come.
Personally, i see no wrong in the govt of the day taking development to all areas of Zambia, even if its an election year. The bottom line is, if the electorate decide to change govt, well and good, but that will not change the fact that development had been taken to all areas be that as it may. No one loses, the voted-out govt would look back and say yes, they did their part becoz development is visible to all. To the incoming govt (if at all it came to that), they will acknowledge that the out-voted govt had done its best after all. Why condemn developmental projects honestly?
Just read the Post editorial(to be published tomoro) on the maize marketing and see why they are a bunch of maggots. They are now feasting on their own rotten brains.
No wonder Cornelius is so shallow he is a Unviersity Drop out…
SAINT YOU ARE A FOOL FOR NOT SEEING DEVELOPMENT IS AN ONGOING THING THAT DOES NOT ONLY OCCUR IN ELECTION PERIODS.
IF BANDA DELIVERED FROM THE START TO NOW AT THE SAME SPEED THEN ZAMBIA WOULD BE THE POOREST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD RIGHT NOW FROM THE DEBT RUPIAH HAS PUT ZAMBIA IN SO QUICKLY
STOP CALLING FOR A REPEAT OF THE PAST 20 YEARS AS MMD CANNOT CHANGE ZAMBIA TO ANYTHING BETTER.
IF YOU THINK THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG IN ZAMBIA THEN YOU MUST BE LIVING IN ANOTHER COUNTRY.
KEEPING THE SAME TEAM FOR ANOTHER 5 YEARS WILL DESTROY ZAMBIA AND ITS DEBT LEVEL.
WILL RUPIAH TELL THE TRUTH WHERE THE EXTRA MONEY IS COMING FROM FOR THE LUSAKA ROADS?
MILUPI KNOWS THAT MMD CAN’T COUNT AS ITS HISTORY OF BUDGETS AND THE A.G REPORTS SHOW THAT IT IS TO BLAME FOR THE MESS ZAMBIA IS IN NOW.
THE SAINT @ 16, baba you talk sense, keep it up One Zambia one nation and that leader his Hon RB
As for 33 REMOVE BANDA THE DINOSAUR keep dreaming in Tonga, RB is here to develop our country another 5 years
#34 You are a f**l primitive chap, mind your language!! Infact you sound B
You are PF ka 34
If the development RB has brought is about winning elections so be it. It is better than those small parties that have always campaigned on chibuku and tu chitenge. This is atleast different, RB campaigns by bringing development to Zambians….that is great! We want more development Mr RB.
let RB tell us which power he is going to ofload from the system by giving solar geysers to customers who dont have electric geysers at their places. The defferred mode of payment only applies to places were there prepayment system so it is only a few people who are going to benefit vote wisely.
