Electorates raise alarm over their voters cards in Kazungula

Share

Concerned residents of Nyawa area in Kazungula District have expressed their concern at the on going trend of political cadres who are allegedly going round in the area collecting details of voters’ cards.

This came to light yesterday when a ZANIS crew was in the area to publicize the on going inspection of voter registration exercise that commenced on Monday this week accross the country.

Concerned residents in the area expressed disappointments in the manner in which the suspected political party cadres are convincing the registered voters to surrender their voters’ cards to them.

They questioned the motive behind the exercise saying it may be one way of disenfranchising them ahead of this year’s tripartite elections.

And two teachers from Nyawa Basic School confirmed the development in separate interviews with ZANIS yesterday.

Mr. Owen Mooya suggested that the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) should have deployed Voter Education Facilitators prior to the voter register verification exercise so that the the electorate could be educated on various issues.

He said the people who are surrendering their voters’ cards are doing that out of ignorance saying the culprits behind that are using sweet talk in order to convince them to do so.

Meanwhile, one of the registered voters in the area has complained to the officers stationed at Nyawa central polling centre that some people’s voters’ cards have been ‘ confisticated ‘by the named culprits hence making it difficult to verify their details in the voter register.

When contacted for a comment, Chief Nyawa confirmed receiving the report and described the happenings as politically motivated.

The Chief told ZANIS that he would soon make a follow up on the matter.

Nansongwa and Chilli areas in the Nyawa Chiefdom are some of the places where such reports have been happening.

  1. Those are MMD cadres because if they were from the opposition,ZANIS could have mentioned names.
    DONT KUBEBA.

  2. MMD at work.they did this in 2008 and they are doing it again.Zambian politics, very dirty..uuuuhh!!! Can such a country ever develop?

  3. This is unfortunate, abamumushi nabena how do you just surrender your card to someone you dont even know. The rural areas will make it difficult for those in town to change government can Sata please intensify campaigns in rural area so that people there do not vote for mmd.

  4. This the same UNIP mentality, the day we are going to get rid of these UNIP guys like Rupiah and Sata the better Zambia will be for all, no intimidation and victimisation. The old recycled want to do as if they own our country.

  5. In Sata’s era it will be worse, for him matchetes and Pangas will be used on those with different views form his. Zambians we have been taken for granted indeed, whereby people like Sata with all the pain they have caused us in the past can have guts to stand as presidential candidates. Wake up guys from slumber to realise what we need for ourselves as a nation, not to allow the cheating to go on.

  6. Ubuntu, I concur with u, PF must now focus on capturing rural votes. Actualy, a list of those to contest at ward, councilar and parliamtry level should be anounced now so that these people starts campaing in these areas other wise if pf continues waitg for this villager called RB to announce the elections date for them to come out with the list-it wl be too late, they wl find mmd hv bought off half of the voters cards. PF must go an extra mile in this election bcz its a do or die affair-its this year or never,if we do not get it ths yr we sink for good!

  7. for every vote that pf may gain in a rural area, they lose 100 in their previous urban strongholds. the reason is that it will be much harder for pf to convince people in rural areas who know exactly what they want. the rural know that only hard work will improve their lives and not 90 days sweet nothings from liars who only want their vote in order to lay their sticky fingers on the national treasury. so pf now faces a hobson’s choice: to waste their time and resources trying to convince rural people who are receiving what they want, or to try and maintain an urban support base among people who have become wiser about the 90 days pf theorem of lies. agony is the word!

  8. The best way to rule people is to keep the ignorant of their rights. As long as these rural dwellers are deprived of the knowledge of their rights, the ruling party will continue abusing them.

Why should this issue be a responsibility of an area Chief instead of Police? Is it because they know that chiefs are pro-MMD, and they’ll cover ups.

  9. Collection of voters’ cards details traditional , criminal and un-democratic practice was muted by SATA as mmd secretary general to pepertually hold on to political power.
RB/MMD=SATA/MMD=SATA/PF/MMD=NO CHANGE=SECURING POLITICAL POSITIONS AND JOPS FOR THEIR FRIENDS AND FAMILIES ONLY.

    FOR STATUS-QUO VOTE SATA+RB(PF+MMD)

  10. LT-please allow me to express my opinion don’t block my blogging. Why put foreign flag instead of number 9 on my blog?
