Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) General Secretary Roy Mwaba has advised all contesting political parties in the forth coming tripartite elections to hold convetions to elect specific candidates ahead of the polls.

Mr. Mwaba said it is of prime importance that all contesting political parties to their individual convetions to demonstate their good governance ahead of the polls.

He said that political party and their leaders who do not hold convetions are a threat to Zambias’ young democracy . He expressed his fears that once in power without holding conventions , there is a high possibility of them becoming dictators.
The ZCTU Gen. Secretary said this in Nakonde yesterday when he addressed civil servants at Brooks Gardens drawn from various departments and ministries in the district.

“People who do not hold convetions become dictators when they are voted into office and they go to State House. This is the reason why we in ZCTU are demanding that all political parties taking part in the forthcoming tripartite elections should first hold convetions to elect leaders of the individual political parties,” said Mr. Mwaba.

The ZCTU Secretary General said it is a requirement even in other countries such as the United Kingdom and America to hold primary elections for all aspiring presidential candidates in order to promote transparacy and democracy in political parties.

Mr. Mwaba further said that all presidential candidates should clearly tell the people of Zambia what agenda they have for them hence why they should be voted for.

” There is need to arrange for a live debate where all the presidential aspirants can be accorded a chance to tell the Zambian people the agenda they have for this country, ” he said.

The ZCTU General Secretary also cautioned Zambians to ensure that they vote for people with integrity, who are morally upright and are Gods’ fearing leaders.

He also urged all the workers in the country to ensure that they take part in voting for national leaders on the polls day and should vote wisely.

Mr. Mwaba has also called for respect for all political players in the run up to the tripartite elections.

He was of the view that political campaigns should be issue based campaigns rather than character assassination saying politics of insults and mudslinging as the case is now, will not improve the living standards of ordinary Zambians.

The workers meeting in Nakonde was also attending by the district commissioner Billy Siwlimba, council secretary Francis Nkhoma and ZCTU district chairperson Nondo Kasanda among others.

  1. PF Kaponyas, when is your national convention? Or have you conceded defeat as elaborated by Wynter Kabimba?

  2. I will ask Patrick Mwanawasa to comment!!!!!!!!!!!! we know who you are in bed with ,enjoy lelo naifwe ni mailo.

  3. Am sure ZCTU is referring to Michal Sata.

Speaking of Micheal Sata, he has been silent for a while now and this is very very very unusual for somebody as loquacious as him. Not even his friends at the POST have quoted him and fed us with his picture. Are rumours that he was evacuated  to SA true? Am beginning to start believing. It is very very very very usual for the man to be so quiet. he is no Miyanda. Anybody seen him this week? PF cadre update us on the status of your leader. You serious need him this year to be firing on all cylinders because the campaign has not even began

  4. Hey mate, who was dictating his preferred candidates at their convention??? Which party went out of its way to bar certain individuals from attending, lest they contest the presidency of their party??? Holding a convention where delegates are directed who to vote for, are just as good as not having them held!! IT IS NOT A REQUIREMENT THAT PARTIES SHOULD HOLD CONVENTIONS, the reason they do it is to chose who is to represent them in the national election.

  5. Sata is fine. You just need to worry about these corrupt ZCTU leaders who seem to have NO backbone!! I am positive this guy was forced onto the organisation by corrupt MMD!

  6. What really does my heading, and upsets me is that Zambia is behind a lot of things. I may not be there, I was looking at cars here and laughing thinking, there is no chance in hell such a car would be in Zambia, Lexus, BMW X6, Ferrari, Audi X5 ( My fiancé drives an A6 2009), because the country is riddled with naive leaders who have resorted to thieving enriching themselves, stealing. I the country’s life span is very short in other words If you are over 40 you are very lucky as the average lifespan is 29, I ask myself why? What can we do about this, Why do we have so many dogs that bark without biting. I can tell you why. This country is full of dull people, people that don’t believe in themselves, people born poor, cheats, people regardless of what you say to them …

  7. papa j, even if MCS was not available, people such as Guy Scott or Lubinda would certainly take the helm – Ni pa bwato fye papaj (sorry, didn’t mean purging as in diarrhoea)!

  8. ka mushota uchilipo?? we mwana tekanya, Fiance wobe, te nchinga anina?? ala leka ifya ku sata sata!!! Na ti chilemba tu le kulolela ku mushe kwenu!!

  9. they will remain backwards
I urge anyone with a good brain between their shoulders to try and live here in UK, marry a British person get your VISA sorted and perhaps contribute to Zambia remotely…

At the end of the day there are no medals for contributing to Zambia are they? My children would be half Zambian half British. Coloured children are seen as superior to Black children and are seen more favourable in schools and work places as they are white, with a slightly dark ‘ish skin. I have experienced racism my children will NOT
I do not miss Zambia because as I am outspoken I am getting threatening messages on my facebook does it have to come to this? ..

    • You have a point about mixed hybrid children getting better reception even if its between tribes. Obama is a case in point, isn’t he? In Zambia lighter skinned girls (even boys, I guess) have an edge over the ebony ones. The genes are good at making the discriminations but once you voice it, it doesn’t sound too good. However, I think your bad experience of yo dad beating yo mum ate a chunk of your brain as you are making some unwarranted generalisation. When you make such strong statements (about Zambian men abusing female partners more than those in your new country) you should back it up with some data from some reliable source/study.

  10. This is why I hate Zambia,I may be Zambian but I am not proud being Zambian, If I had a choice I would wish I was born white, but I have accepted my life as it is. I hate my father for hitting my Mother and I will never ever trust any Zambian man as the majority hit their wives/girlfriends etc, and this is perceived ok. You don’t go to jail for beayting your woman in zambia do you? If you are woman the choice is simple do something, I could help If I was neare these men I would slap them!! Thanks

  11. Seems like this nitwit thinks people have forgotten how ZCTU became a dictator organization during their last elections. What happened to the rightful and vibrant people’s candidate from Chambeshi Mine? Just give it up cadres. It is over!

  12. mushota, the brain is located above the shoulders, it explains why you have verbal “dias” & why you are such a lost soul!!!

  13. #Kamwendo-indeed there are other people who can take PF to victory even if MCS came out today to say he is not available. Actually we can plead with King Kalu to take over and teach MMD a lesson the way he did at football house when the entire state house and shushu wolves were set on him!

  14. How were the elections of ZCTU conducted recently? If my memory serves me well there was no transparency. For those political parties who have have their conventions, were they free and fair? It is the same whether upnd, pf, mmd, zctu, faz, etc, the process is always a sham.

  15.   #7 and #9  Thanks for the update. As I noted it just has been unusual for the man to go quiet. Where is he now? Campaigning in the Villages? I thought he always carried a POST Newspaper Reporter. What happened this time?

  16. Good advise ba Mwaba. But pliz take your advise and do not do as you and your crap boss Hikaumba did at your last convention.Conniving with GRZ to block a candidate.we will not 4get.

  17. Looking at the changing political landscape, and taking into account William Banda’s antics in Lusaka Province the following is the likely 2011 elections outcome by province.

    Central PF 30% MMD 45% UPND 20% Other 5

    Copperbelt PF 45% MMD 40% UPND 12% Other 3,

    Eastern PF 25% MMD 65% UPND 6% Other 4

    Luapula PF 45% MMD 45% UPND 2% Other 8

    Lusaka PF 35% MMD 35% UPND 25% Other 5

    Northern PF 50% MMD 45% UPND 3% Other 2,
North Western PF 3% MMD 40% UPND 55% Other 2

    Southern PF 2% MMD 30% UPND 65% Other 3 Western PF 10% MMD 45% UPND 35% ADD 8 Other 2. Tobe continued…

  18. Continunued….National Scores:

    PF 27.2%

    MMD 43.3% (Winner)

    UPND 24.7%

    Other 4.6%

    Significant Notes:

PF has gained some ground in Western but lost ground in Lusaka and Copperbelt. Western continues to be MMD

MMD has gained ground in Lusaka and Copperbelt but lost a bit in Western

UPND has gained ground in Lusaka, Western and North Western while Southern remains their strong hold

    • Day dreamer. PF will still get Lusaka by more than 55% same to Copperbelt and luapula. You are lost or turning a blind eye to reality.Keep on dreaming, you think though dry geysers in mandevu will win you votes forget. Zedians now know political moves and development, its donchi kubeba!

  19. Why did nyama soya fire people who wanted to contest the VP position and allow himself to go unoppose? Isnt that being a dictator?

  20. ZCTU and FFTUZ leadership are bed-mates with the ruling MMD. This Mwaba and fellow thugs have no right to talk about democracy when they used Liato to ensure that only those friendly to the MMD were elected. You ZCTU and your bed fellows MMD are guilt of allowing mine owners to exploit our miners, through slave wages. Your days are numbered Mr. Mwaba, you are a disgrace! This Mushota @ 8 and 11 is a brainless twit, who makes a retarded chimp seem intelligent! Are you not Charity from Olympia who used to drink from Olympia market and hunt for white men? Could actually be! F00lish woman Mushota!

  21. Is this man talking about conventions like the last MMD convention were preferred candidates were allowed in and those that RB did not want were locked out? Is he referring to the elections in MMD which made Mulongoti get kicked out of his position and the party because he declared interest in a position reserved for someone in the name of Kunda? That is really democracy. Even the Provincial elections only those that RB wanted were allowed to contest. I really like how rupiah twisted the arm of Chishala Chilufya the people’s candidate to withdraw. That is democracy in MMD. Awesome. Please, people stop fooling yourselves.

  22. we dont have any labour movement in zambia any more.the labour movement is full of MMD cadres.Roy mwaba,Hikaumba,Simukoko and many others are eating with this corrupt government but their days are numbered.

all hidden things shall one day comeout.dont kubeba………………Ba Roy just resign and announce which constituency you will contest on an MMD ticket chapwa..kwasila………

  23. Our students believe that Mushota suffers from depression. Sometimes when she’s in one of her good mood, she writes intelligent stuff but most times she comes in with her low self esteem junk wishing if she was born white. This girl needs deliverance.

  24. Roy mwaba please spare us. Deep within yourself u know that the last conference you had as ZCTU,were new office bearers were voted in, it wasnt transparent.Wat happened to Chaala Darrison, Mbulu who wanted to contest for the president? where are they today? We know that u and your entire committee were just ashed in by the govt that is why u are busying saying everything to please your masters.we know these things dont try to play with our intelligence.U are in the dirty committee which has no blessing of the workers u claim to represent,nd who are u tell the Zambian who to vote for? if u ve any respect for democracy to take place at every fora be it a political party or an gathering, first resign then we will see that u mean well when it comes to issues of democracy

    • Roy Drives one of the latest mercedes benz, plate REM 77. Is ZCTU really interested in workers’ plight, or is individuals within ZCTU interested in themselves? Perverts!

  25. Ba tribalists,
The polls are not decided on averages but actual number. 50% in Northern is not the same as 50% in Western. More voters in northern than Western. Dream on

  26. Mwaba is an idi.ot. ZCTU has been reduced to an MMD campaign wing, and an auxiliary for corruption at NAPSA. It does not stand for workers, but for MMD and against workers. As others have said, time is up, period.

I’d prefer PF not having a convention and save money for campaigns, other than have a joke of a convention where it was tellered that the main posts go unopposed. Nonsense.

  27. #20;#21 Tribalist: Please please have some common sense! VJ has already given you his preferred out come. Good luck, but that prediction (or rather fantacy) will not work this year!! I am not going to waste my time on you – STUPID *****!!!

  28. Can any of you mongrels tell me which party in Zambia is Democratic? HH has overstayed his UPND mandate but is still running. MMD is not democratic as evidenced by their false convention.PF is right not to go for a convention because in Zambia conventions mean nothing at all!

  29. Just like manifestos are useless if they are not going to be followed!!! MMD has a good manifesto only good as shinda paper!

  30. @ Mushota
Please keep quiet and get a life. Tomorrow you are chucked out by your husband you will be back to Zed. Don’t forget you are made in the image of God and he saw it fit that you have that skin colour. Thats why inferiority complex starts with you,not men. For your own information foreign women (Europeans) can pay handsomely to have an African man to herself. with them, contrary to you, they look for love and life not material love to an extent of being an economic refugee like you. Open your eyes and prays god for who you are.Your sentiments make me feel wicked as a human trying to question God.

  31. Workers have no representative. Roy Mwaba is a cadre and a politician. He should resign from ZCTU and join politics full time. He has never articulated on any issue affecting workers. All he does is comment on conventions, voting etc. Even in his recent address to workers in Nakonde I doubt if at all he dealt with workers’ plight.

  32. Mushota my heart goes out to you for crying out about the injustices in life. Rest assured, though, that no race is superior to the other before God, our Creator. It’s just that the world is full of prejudices. However, I admire the lack of malice, anger and cynicism in your blogs, especially in light of the uncalled for insults poured on you. Guys, there is no need to insult this innocent, albeit sometimes misguided, soul. Her contributions are mostly refreshing!

  33. ZCTU does not even deserve to be representing workers. By the way do we even have worker`s representatives in Zambia? I doubt it. Shame on you which elections are u bosting in ZCTU, MMD, UPND or even HP none, lets just face reality that MCS is popular and you are all afraid of your jobs. Enjoy now as you may be out in the next few months. We want deceit worker`s representation. PLEASE LIVE THE MAN ALONE.

  34. #27, I agree with the observations of your students. A healthy concious would have prevented her from such utterances.

Mushota, please see your GP and discuss if you need referal to psychology.

  35. If the MMD convention was a farce, then let PF hold theirs that is going to be an example of a better, transparent well organised convention. Then we Zambians will say lo and behold a PF convention at last – a better one at that! The excuses being given here about lack of money, or the MMD one not being transparent are neither here nor there. It just shows that most if not of all the PF cadres don’t reason at all.

  36. ZCTU is out touch with its grassroot. Mwaba you are simply a disgrace to the labour movement. MMD stooges is time up for you. Vote for SATA, come elections period! RB and his corrupt regime stand nop chance this year.

  37. ROY YOU EVEN CALL YOUR SELF A UNION LEADER WHEN WE KNOW THAT YOU SLEEP IN THE SAME BEDROOM WITH MMD. THE PEOPLE YOU LEAD ARE ALL PABWATO AND YOU ARE BUSY CHEATING YOUR BOSS RB.NO UNION IN ZAMBIA EXIST FULL STOP.

  38. As pee a fool we wont worst our meagre resources on useles conventions like that of mmd. Why do that wen we have an inteligent leader who can scrutinise ,identify and appoint gud leaders 4our party. We wil do then en then just as the boy fled to polish en publicise it. Its as simple as that folks

  39. @25 kalos2121, why is thinking logically so challenging to you? here is a chance for you and your pf to hold a convention and show that you are more democratic than rb and mmd, and off you fly on a tangent! someone please help this man.

  40. @30 GK Patriot, “I’d prefer PF not having a convention and save money for campaigns, other than have a joke of a convention where it was tellered that the main posts go unopposed”. we are slowly being allowed a peek into the mind of a pf cadre, i knew that it was a just a matter of time. this cadre is telling us that pf cannot hold a serious convention with genuine elections. now gk patriot, pf will not even hold a joke of a convention you say? ha, you cannot even pretend to be better than mmd?

  41. secretary general you are right.people who dont hold convetions should not be trusted with power because they are dictators.its an open and public secret that the MMD shall win the elections,.Mushota is a crazy girl i think she writes after her man has spruged her puss and the behind like no ones bussines.we are trying to locate her in the uk so that we can teach her a lesson.PF has lost ground in lusaka, luapula and copperbelt.Sata(na) is quiet preparing for his heart attact

  42. The trade union in zambia is very weak. it was killed when FFTUZ was formed ( A splinter union from ZCTU ). After that, we have seen formation of unions left and right with atleast two separate unions in one industry. One voice has been split in two. The actual destruction of trade unionism began in the early 2000. for almost a decade now, the power and strength of these unions have been weakened and compromised by the government. where is liato now?

  43. Mushota is too ugly to be Zambian, Nick in a  2009!A6 hey prozy even my workers are better in cars let me just say you dream it we live it. I am a half cast Zambian married to a nice very nice nsanga wife we have 3 beautiful children who are grown up and very proud to be zambians and trust me my first born drivers a range sport 2011, cannot understand you at all in this country no matter what your kids are labelled black, as you are in Scotland the day you go to give birth the nurses will be wanting to see if your child will be born with a tail, too them you are monkey Mushota wamalepa aya nonka, I am taking my family to my village again this summer!

  44. Well, maybe the MMD convention was not democratic. Can the Pf please show the rest how to carry out a democratic convetion? This should make conventions held by other parties look like Sunday School picnics; after all it will be the first since the party was formed.

  45. the bottom line is that pf should show us the voters what it is that they can do better than mmd leadership in terms of development, democracy, food security etc etc. in other words, they should convince us why we should risk a five year experiment with pf leadership. it will not do for pf to just find shortcomings in others. why should mr sata find it difficult to organise a convention? although pf cadres would say that mr sata is a man of action, on the ground we see a man of rhetoric, empty rhetoric actually. when he goes to mongu and promises people that he will build schools, the schools are already being built and the people just enjoy the comedy.

  46. Chi Mushota: tawakwata amano..walisha amano mukunya! please stop going to the toilet coz the more you go the more you lose your brains!…you are a person of low self esteem and thats why you are looking down on Zambians In Zambians! Those of us who are here see Lexus, BMW X5s and many more..what are you talking about iwe ka kolwe?

  47. Voting patterns will be similar to previous elections. Voting will as usual reflect regions. Urban areas will as usual experience a low voter turnout despite many registered voters. It should be noted that economic liberalization has created a diverse and unpredictable urban population comprising mostly of self employed individuals.Opposition political parties have not agrresively convinced the electorate on the major policy changes that they are offering. Successive good maize yields will play a big role in rural areas. The baroste issue will also play a role .As usual the combined votes gained by the two runners up will be more than the votes gained by the winning party. (1) 40% MMD or PF (2) 35% PF or MMD (3) 25% UPND

  48. Much as I dont trust ZCTU, on this one, you are right. Sata cant be trusted as head of state. He is a loose canon. He is a grade four whose understanding of economic issues is limited

  49. How do you trust one with absolute power when such a person is not democratic in their party? Sata with absolute power? Dear Zambians, we are playing with a very poisonous snake here!!!! Our constitution is too weak for people like Sata.He would rake havolk in this country. All opposition leaders would be eliminated, inflation would go up due to luck of confidence by the investors.Zambia would become poorer and such would be 10 steps backward.

  50. Ba Tribalist, point of correction. You are almost there with your prediction but allow me to indicate to you that you need to re-acess as foolows:
    W/Prov –
    UPND 45%, C/Belt-UPND 22%, Central UPND- 35% , S/Prov- UPND 75% N/W-UPND 60%

    Please redo your mathematics.

  51. No.60, that prediction favours UPND to win the election. I think its attainable if the current wave of change continues for the next two or three months. HH is telling us what he will do, Sata is banking on popularity which is fading while MMD are using incumbency.

  52. The presidential by-election we had in 2008 should not be compared to the 2011 general election. Some of us voted for RB coz he told us he wanted to just complete Levy’s term and a lot more gave him a compassionate vote after going round the country with Levy’s body.

  53. Am MMD but I would not mind HH, not these empty tins just making noise about things they dont understand. HH is talking about things he knows. If at all we lose this election, the only logic thing is RB to hand over to HH, not to the Permanent F.o.o.l.s (PF).

  54. Heheheheheeee! It would be nice to have a young president Harack Hobama. By this Idont mean I hate Sata and RB, NO!! They had their time and did what they could. This is time to change leadership. I made this decision after watching a video of HH’s rallies. We need the young man.

  55. Roy Drives one of the latest mercedes benz, plate REM 77. Is ZCTU really interested in workers’ plight, or is individuals within ZCTU interested in themselves? Perverts!

  56. Malik, I’m glad you exposed your ignorance about the UPND Consitution. Allow me therefore to enlighten you so that next time you don’t expose your ignorancy. UPND provides for a 4 year term for a president. HH became UPND president in 2006 so his first term as UPND leader is ending this year. In 2009, at a conference held at mulungushi conference centre UPND had their national congress, the equivalent of a national convention in other parties where he was elected the party’s presidential candidate in this year’s general elections. So really, UPND is far ahead of any other party in terms of conventions.

  57. No point in this article. Citizens normally vote normal people into power then when in office these people turn into dictators. Chiluba was a very nice man who turned into a dictator when he went into office. Why would one show their dictatorial tendencies before being elected into office? I would n’t do that. we are stuck!!

  58. It’s really a nice and helpful piece of info. I’m happy that you just shared this helpful info with us. Please stay us up to date like this. Thanks for sharing.
