President Rupiah Banda this morning led scores of mourners including foreign dignitaries in paying their last respects to second republican president Dr Fredrick Chiluba during a church service at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Lusaka.

And Dr Chiluba’s body has arrived at its final resting place at Embassy Park.

Notable among the foreign dignitaries present include Democratic Republic of Congo president Joseph Kabila, Zimbabwe’s vice president and Prime Minister Joyce Mujuru and Morgan Tsvangirai respectively, former Tanzanian President Benjamin Mkapa and Katanga province Governor Moses Katumbi.

Also present at the church service was first republican president Dr Kenneth Kaunda several senior government officials and opposition leaders.

Dr. Chiluba’s casket arrived at the Cathedral at about 09:10 hours carried on a military gun carriage.

During the church service second republican president Fredrick Chiluba’s widow Regina in a letter of farewell to her husband read on her behalf, described him as a selfless and a humble man.

And her daughter Hulda Chiluba gave a moving glowing tribute.

Defence minister Kalombo Mwansa giving Dr Chiluba’s obituary said the former president should be remembered for the good things he did for Zambia.

Dr. Mwansa says Zambia has lost an inspirational leader and most outstanding citizen of his generation.

He described Dr. Chiluba who was born on 30th April, 1943 as a person who displayed rare courage and determination.

And Bible Gospel Church in Africa (BIGOCA) overseer and Dr Chiluba’s Pastor Bishop Peter Ndhlovu said the late president’s legacy will not be erased in Zambia’s history.

He also described Dr. Chiluba as a genuine born-again Christian who has left a good name.

And the Zambia Congress of trade Unions (ZCTU) has honored Dr. Chiluba who was at the helm of the union for 17 years before becoming republican president.

ZCTU president Leonard Hikaumba presented a ZCTU flag to Dr. Chiluba’s family in recognition of the role he played when he served as ZCTU Chairman-General.

He described Dr Chiluba as a renowned trade union leader.

  1. Rest in Peace Mr President. for now, what ever you did can be forgotten esp that you are no longer with us.I just wish you asked for forgiveness from Zambians who harbor alot of hate for what you did.Zambians should realise that we are all sinners and not any better than you. Important lesson for all us and hence need to give our lives to Christ and learn to depend on him alone.RIP

  2. A great President you were. A man for the people, eloquent, intelligent and loving. God remember you for all you did for Mother Zambia and forgive those who hated you and tried hard to destroy your name.

  3. M.Y.S.R.I.P FTJ, really sad for Vera and the Chiluba Kids. Ba Regina, You can Go back to your Husband Mwanza, Mwaseepa Impiya. Nkani Yakang’onoo.

  4. Yawn….Yawn…Chiluba’s legacy blah blah….Chiluba a renowned trade union leader blah blah. This Chiluba dude was a criminal for God’s sakes . So let’s not make him out to be a hero. Zambia is a zoo.

  5. What is painful is the $46m pilfered from the country.

I wonder which of the pairs of 300 pairs of booties he was buried it. Was it all of them? What about the gold and diamond rolex, did it go with him?

    • lets forgive and forget! You cannot carry bitterness, unforgiveness to your grave because you WILL NOT enter the Kingdom of Heaven. I would rather you went to heaven than miss out and suffer for the rest of your life…what name shall you carry? Repent of your sins NOW you do not know the day or hour of the coming of Jesus Christ. Please.

  6. In Heaven meeting and chatting: FTJ, Nkumbula, Penza, Wezi, Paul Tembo. I wonder how at peace FTJ’s soul can be when chatting with these other souls. Anyway till we meet, Rest in peace!!!

  7. Nalila ooooooooooooowe nalila oowe kuliimwe…………………… God bless zambia as we fly high above our challenges!

  8. i am shocked by some of the comments ive read. please have hearts! No matter how evil one might have been, no one deserves to die. Imagine if you lost a parent and someone said the things you are saying about our former president, how would feel? we will all be judged by God one day. lelo ichililo chili pali neighbour, mailo chili pamobe. I hope there is a special place in hell for some of you.

  9. Radio Phoenix today has reported that Mr Sata said that President Banda should have pardoned second republican President Mr Chiluba. Mr Sata added that he is on record as having publicly stated that he would pardon Mr Chiluba when he (Sata) assumed power. But the radio also referred to Mr Sata’s very strong statements in the last two weeks and before that he would lock up Mr Chiluba when he came to power. Mr Sata featured on Radio Phoenix while Zambians were in sorrow attending the funeral service for FJT at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Lusaka.

  10. Forgiveness is granted unto those who realise their folly and are repentant. You may secure a judgement but as to having received justice is another matter alltogether. The word of God is as reall as it was 2000 years ago and we are all – that are steal living- reminded to heed and allow God lordiship over our lives.

  11. @13, “In Heaven meeting and chatting: FTJ, Nkumbula, Penza, Wezi, Paul Tembo. I wonder how at peace FTJ’s soul can be when chatting with these other souls. Anyway till we meet, Rest in peace!!!”. you are directing that question at the wrong person whom they have made sure is not here to defend himself, the people with the answers could still be alive and within your own camp. check with the camp that did not want rivals during the third term debate, and the other camp which was angered that levy was made president. fjt was assured of being president for at least two terms while others were aspiring.

  12. king Fred…one of a kind. You have taught me to never give up in life but always believe in your dream and later on realise it. I remember these words,” you need to have a dream, coneptualize it, visualize it until you realise it!

  13. Even in death the midget continues to rob the poor, the govt of Zambia estimates that it will spend K9 billion kwacha on his funeral, that is close to $2million, then we need to build a house for his mistress Regina and retirement benefits for his misfits called Children, Can a poor country like Zambia really afford that?

  14. Chiluba died a sinner, a thief who got money for the poor Zambians and used it to buy shoes and suits.
I don’t care what people say, this man was a crook, a thief and i hope that Zambians will recover their money even when he is not around.

    • Who the **** are you to judge him…stupid phat! You think you’ll live forever? Death knows no criminal no angel, no nothing, but comes to all…even you hollier than thou parasites judging dead people. May you rest in ‘eternal’ life…you wish!

  15. Let us ALL seek to draw positives in life’s experiences. FJT was one that we celebrated at one time. He was our hero! Inspite of his failures, let us learn from his/other peoples mistakes so as to short-cut our way to success. One doesn’t have to make the mistakes he made to learn! Learn from FJT’s mistakes and so avoid repeating them. I have learnt alot from him and so I will not throw a stone at him because i have my skeletons like everybody else on this forum. Take a good look introspectively before you point an accusing finger at another. MHSRIP.

  16. Man’ atleast all this Chiluba saga has come to an end, i personaly got too much of Chiluba this,Chiluba that, Chiluba here, chiluba there, Chiluba $45 million, Chiluba in court, let him now rest in peace and let God judge him for his human or inhuman deeds. Time to move the country forward peiod.

  17. FTJ will be remembered for many things and one of these is that he brought tribalism to the fore in Zambia.
His first cabinet consisted of 80% Northerners and the guy was shameless to address his press conferences in Chi Bemba.
    Let him go man!
we too have previously lost ours like Mazoka,Nalumino,Mushala etc
Let the Administrator bring back that loot.Period.

  19. Goodbye and may the good Lord have mercy on us who have remained. No comments will change his destiny.

  20. @26 Jury, mr sata has realised that he has made a fatal error of judgement and is trying to make peace with the majority of aggrieved zambians. too late old man, this will teach you to grow up, listen to sound advice, and stop yapping anyhow just because God did not put a zipper on your mouth when he Created you.

  21. Even in death FTJ is strong enough to sway a vote now Sata is talking about pardon? Awe mwe some people never cease to amaze me…

  22. We shall miss you Man of the people Mr. President. A great and powerful Trade Unionist and President with a vision.

  23. C2Peed comment! Take a shower if your flesh or erection is troubling you, instead releasing your pressure by insulting a dead person.

  24. Sata’s interview on radio phoenix while FTJ was being burried was just to hoodwink zambians from wondering where he is! the truth is that Sata is very sick and knew that if he showed up at the burial his sickness would become public, thats why he chose to be on phoenix where pipo wouldnt see how sick he is but would think he is fine if he can be on radio. Get well soon ba mdala. remember an ailment is like a pregnancy, you cant hide it forever…

  25. finally wshooooo!!!!!!! thank God by tomorrow will hav something new,was just sick of thses heartless comments you know.as # 27has put it know comment will change his destine. for the grade 7 and 9 this will come in your exams.so remember everything you hav seen and heard

  26. Kenya’s Prime Minister Odinga said african leaders should learn from Chiluba’s mistakes. This could have fallen on deaf ears especialy our beloved Bwezani.

  27. #34 – The new question on grade 7 exams should be –
How much did the second republican president Chiluba steal from you?

    A. $46 million
    B. K46 million
    C. All of the above

  28. #34 true no comment will change anything, not even nubian princess dry joke, at FTJ will be in exam papers am sure nubian princess name will be at chainama for the patients exams

  29. now that the master dribbler has died i wonder what the mmd campgain will be. We are there to remind you the it was the same mmd mps and upnd that removed the chilubas immunity. It is the same mmd ministers who where happy when chiluba fail ill. infact the story was that chiluba was running away from his cases by faking illness. now the want to say that they loved chiluba? panyo

  30. The Dude is gone, nomore hope of ressurrection. Now lets discuss who gets the small boots, designer suits, ties, etc since they seem to be undersize for all. But more importantly is the loot in bahamas, london, congo dr, swisterland, panama etc. We need that wealth back!!!

    • Who is we?….go get it if you can find it!!!…how is it that nothing has come up after more than 10 years…don’t believe all the stories you hear.

  31. # 2 fuus, what did he do to you? Why did you buy into that hate that was fabricated to tarnish his name by a person he loved and chose to be President? Zambians must be very blinded. Go Mr. President. You were a great man.

  32. the bible says in 2corithans 5:17 therefor if any man be in christ he is a new creature old things are passed away behold all things have become new, same of you pf carders are still in the past. ba chiluba is in heaven with the father.M.H.S.R.I.P

  33. Stoopid fuus, #7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, 35, 37, 39, 40, That is how scary this world is. It comprises small minds which discuss people and is void of great minds which discuss ideas. I can’t believe how vile man’s heart is until I read these comments. They think they are too clever. Some of you may not even see the end of the year. May the Lord have mercy on you.

  34. Chiluba arrives at the gates of heaven. St. Peter asks, and quote: “Chabala Kafupi, how familiar were you with the Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth, BIBLE in short?”. Chiluba: ” Very well my lord, I was a pastor and even declared Zambia for the lord!” St. Peter: “Then knowing your pathetic score on Commandments 6.(Thou Shall not kill),  7. Thou shall not commit adultery & 8. Thou shall not steal, why did you not seek redemption for these particular sins and forgiveness from your fellow man before coming here?”. Chiluba: “I wanted to but my departure notice was way too short?”. St. Peter: ” But you spent 10 years denying and appealing against genuine charges, GO TO HELL YOU STINKER”.

    • This is awful and inhuman comments. It is always good practice not say bad things about the dead. God have mercy..

  35. @41 atase, I share your sentiments. The more I think of the FJT episode the more I wonder whether the whole thing was not just a fabrication of the Post. Just look at the way the FJT cases fell apart in courts of law, it seems the evidence was not in the law but between the pages of the Post and we bought it hook, line and sinker. I have begun to question the Post and what it stands for. If you ask many of those bloggers where they got their information about the alleged plunder, they will tell you it is from the Post. But see how biased and unprofessional the Post is today, even presenting Mr Sata as our saviour when before barely two years ago, he was the reincarnation of the devil himself, hated so much by the same Post!

  36. The Post Newspaper is the worst thing that ever happened to Zambian media. The guys are unprofessional and prey on weak minds with their sensationalistic type of journalism. Mmembe is the worst editor not only in Zambia but Africa. If Zambia were like any other African country the Post and Mwanawasa (as my friend from a neighboring country once told me) could have ended Zambia’s record of peace. LMP who was given the presidency on the platter went on a campaign to destroy FTJ’s legacy in a historical betrayal that any nation can ever imagine. The good the man he ever stood for was buried in in the 6 years of campaign by LMP and the Post to malign him and to the blinded people the stealth battle worked. If you repeat character assassination and tell everybody how bad someone was, 90%

  37. … of the population will likely believe the lie. How could a qualified lawyer try to persecute (“prosecute”) his friend who appointed him in another country? He was a pawn for the powerful who used him to try and bring about change even in neighboring Zimbabwe, by criticizing Robert! Don’t you see this happening in the world? Wake Zambia and love your neighbor.

  38. Someone somewhere should recognise the dignified way in which the Zambian Army conducts itself during occasions like this. They are are an oasis of maturity and dignity during times of soul searching in the Country. This is one institution which respects democracy, perfect or not! Forward with the nation!

  39. @pazed kaya,u r a very fun.how on earth do u stil harbour hatred against a dead chiluba.let him rest in peace n thank God de funeral hs ended

  40. In Heaven meeting and chatting: Nkumbula, Penza, Wezi, Paul Tembo. Penza, Iwe cikala Kafupi ninani watumine bambuli ukwisa imbika impolopolo mumutwe? Castro, nishani cimudala leka mufyashi atushe. Nkumbula, tepapa watusanga. Castro, fyalipita twaliambuka sana bulya ubushiku. Tembo, tusha ka cikala first nde kunyonga intoyo.

  41. This is why Zambia wallows in poverty!! With leaders/sycophants who just want to insist on people “BLOTTING THEIR MINDS”, HENCE FORGETTING ALL THE MISDEEDS/SUFFERING THAT WE HAVE ENDURED WHILST ONE MAN HAS RAPED OUR BIRTHRIGHT INHERITANCE, just becoz he has come to pass, is amazing. By high lighting & not forgetting what happened & REMEMBERING IT FOR ETERNITY IS OF SUPREME IMPORTANCE, if we are to stop this from happening again, just as the Jews have made sure NO ONE FORGETS THE HOLOCAUST!! DOING SO DOES NOT MEAN WE HAVE LOST RESPECT FOR THE DEAD! We may have even forgiven him individually, BUT IT’S OUR SUPREME DUTY TO MAKE SURE THAT IT NEVER HAPPENS AGAIN, for the sake of our children!! Yes he may have given away houses BUT IT WAS 4 SELFISH CAUSE, TO STAY IN POWER! “NOTHING IS FREE!”

  42. For those of you saying Chiluba died a sinner, were you there or did you get into his heart. Because of your unforgiveness you are the sinner and you will die a sinner. Among you all condeming him which one of you has not sinned? to God the magnitude of the sin does not matter all sin is the same, so my brethren repent!

  43. #50,51 Iye,you are the only one who has come up with comments worth reading, how come all of a sudden Levy is out of the picture of having tried to jail Chiluba (in the name of anti-corruption), zambians forget too easily and therefore lets leave everything in GOD’S merciful hands
