Shikapwasha refutes LAZ allegations on ZNBC

Share

Chief governmment Spokesperson Lt. Gen. Ronnie Shikapwasha

Information and Broadcasting Services Minister Ronnie Shikapwasha has refuted the Law Association of Zambia ( LAZ )’s claims that the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC ) is biased in the manner the national broadcaster disseminates news and general information to the general public.

Lieutenant General Shikapwasha said LAZ president Musa Mwenya has merely been against President Rupiah Banda and his administration for some time now.

He advised peace loving Zambians to stop listening to Mr Mwenya’s false claims.

The Government spokesperson said this yesterday when he responded to LAZ President on ZNBC who insinuated that the broadcasting station has become unbalanced and skewed towards only covering opinions and activities of the ruling Movement for Multiparty Democracy ( MMD ).

The Association stated that other political players are not given equal coverage adding that at times , ZNBC has also broadcasted libel and slander against MMD political foes.

Mr. Mwenye also alleged that ZNBC is in complete conflict with the law and contrary to the provision of the ZNBC act Chapter 154 of the laws of Zambia.

He has further accused ZNBC that it is currently operating without a board of directors, a thing he said compromises the entire operations of the institution.

  1. THIS man is such a nitwit. He can not see the issue at hand. Times, Daily Mail, ZNBC are biased and may have to be taken to court to restrain their editors from operating until they show fairness. And to imagine this fool ran Zambia Airforce makes me shudder. It a tragedy really for this country to have a dim chap running ZAF and indeed a ministry and yet not see that they are biased.

  2. I am surprised that this Shika does not see what everyone is seeing and hearing on ZNBC. Even children are able to see it, but why an old man, a minister cannot see that, is a mystery for me! I just cannot understand!!

  3. Can you educate me please. The post newspaper is obvious who they are supporting .How many from the opposition have complained that they are always against the 2 parties,MMD and UPND?

    • The difference is in the ownership of the media institutions you have mentioned. The Post is private and can support whoever these private owners want. The Times of Zambia, Daily Mail and ZNBC are owned by all Zambians through government. It, therefore, follows that these government owned media should support the parties that the owners (Zambians) want. That of course translates into unbiased reporting and coverage of all activities of all parties since Zambians are diverse in their party preferences.

    • You are blind. ZNBC, Daily and times are public media i.e. they are ours not for Lupiya alone. As for the Post it is a private media who are in business who we should question when we are done with a house cleaning of these media. Public media should be unbiased to the public, the owners. The Post is our neighbour who we will ask to warn up when we are done with ZNBC. Daily and Times. As well they have the right to support anyone of their choice just like you made a choice on who you support, they are a private paper.

    • Hon Minister, your Broadcasters should give us both sides of the stories, especially when they are talking against any one. the one sided stories make you unpopular, Mr Minister, it shows that it is you who is not working. and letting Bwezani down who appointed you….

    • # 4 and al those comapring ZNBC to MUVI TV and Post to times and Daily Mail! please stop politicking over obvious matters. today you are supporting the ruling party but tommorrow you may find yourself on the other side. who will allow you space? ask Mpombo and Mulongoti. when they were MMD, they were newsmakers everyday. now that they are out, the government media has blacked them out.

My point is Post and MUVI are private newspapers and can side with whomever they want but ZNBC, Daily mail, and Times of Zambia are suposed to be public media and they are provided for in our laws. they are supposed to cover every one without fear or favour. thats why we pay TV levy to ZNBC it does not go to MUVI or the post. lets own up and do the right thing lo!

    • Red Square @ 4: the post is a private paper who can write whatever the want and whoever they support. They do not get any tax payer’s money or TV levy, it is private. But ZNBC, Dily Mail, Times of Zambia, are public media financed by the public and regulated by laws passed by parliant which they should follow.

  4. Nowhere in his report does the president of the LAZ mention the name Rupiah Banda, he talks about the bias and mediocrity of the ZNBC which everybody including MMD know about. This Shikapwasha is such a bootlicker and does not seem to realise that by puppeting he is actually confirming that everything is Rupiah Banda centred. Does Shikapwasha honestly believe that he is serving the interests of Zambians at large, what a shame!

  5. # 4 Red Square
ZNBC is paid for by the tax payers, both MMD and PF, why should we only hear MMD lies pretending that all is well while our pipo wallow in abject poverty ?.

  6. And Ronnie expects his govt to continue in office with such blatant disregard for basic honesty and sympathy! How do you argue that state run media are objective in Zambia? How?

  7. #4 Are you serious? Private media everywhere are biased. However, in a democracy public media like the BBC are expected to be non-partisan. It is not Meembe’s fault that no other Zambians are capable of running successful newspapers. I countries like Kenya and Nigeria there are lots of privately owned newspapers, and radio and television stations. They all support different parties. In the UK we’ve seen the Rupert Murdoc stable of newspapers switch from Labour to the Tories. However, the BBC tries to be impartial. In Zambia, it is almost as if there are no laws. Another five years of RB and democracy will be completely dead. He will probably even be succeeded by one of his sons, like in Syria.

  8. Is he still Reverend? So unfaithful and unjust. Please man of God you are a reverend remember. Shame on you!

  9. # 4 ,you really need to be serious with serious issues! For real, even children are able to see that it is a show run by MMD. Change will only come if you change the way you look at things!

  10. Shika is doing exactly what he has been instructed to do by his MMD party and Government! Use ZNBC to attack opposition parties and don’t give them chance to defend themselves.

  11. 20, what is slanderous and libelous about a programme which is based on what mr sata said and was reported by his own “some sections of the media”? tell mr sata to speak sense and truth for a change, and the post to withdraw whatever they wrote about mr sata from 1991 to 2008.

    • Why is it that Mr Sata is not given Chance to reply on ZNBC… Some one who know how good women are sexually can not support Gay isim and yet you paint Mr Sata as one and you do not give him a chance to reply. a Media run by our money.

  12. i wonder why mr mwenye has singled out znbc for his misplaced hatred, the sunday times carries an article called “remember this?” with basically the same message as chanda chimba3. it is plain for anyone to see that mr mwenye is only affected by znbc because he fears that it is visual and carries greater impact in revealing the real sata. i will now quote one of the “remember this” from the sunday times and challenge mr mwenye to sue me. it is a quote from mr mpombo, sata’s own staunch supporter. Read on….

  13. Sunday Times 22/5/11: “We on the Copperbelt are united but let me say one thing, don’t listen to political demagogues like Michael Sata. I am always saying Sata is a living manifestation of evil. He has got a spiritually and politically debauched mind.” George Mpombo, then Copperbelt Province minister, May 16, 2006.

  14. so mr mwenya, take znbc to court and i will join the legal team to ensure that you lose the case the way your kabimba loses against laymen. by the way mr mwenya you are not laz, so to sue znbc you need the laz to vote in favour, stop the empty threats you blo.ody chakuti chakuti.

    • You see your language, if you have made roads, hosipitals, name it, but if you are insulting all will go to not. ZNBC is for all people of Zambia.

  15. Notable that in his defense of ZNBC (issued through ZANIS), the Information Minister does not offer any evidence to support his claim of non-biased reporting and instead resorts to allegations of bias against Musa Myenya and LAZ. This alone seems enough to prove the bias does exist. If the Minister were serious about his job of upholding the principle of impartial coverage as called for by the ZNBC Act, he would have something more substantial to say than this guy is against me.

  16. pf government, I am still waiting for for you to respond to me on the Mufuchani issue. Your attitude makes me realize why this country is not getting anywhere. You must understand that some of the bloggers participating on this site are very intelligent Zambians, some with Oxbridge and Ivy League pedigrees.

  17. Public funded institutions such as all public-funded and state-controlled media houses (ZNBC, Times of Zambia, Daily Mail, etc.) are people’s institutions funded from taxes from citizens whether from opposition (who are the majority) or MMD (now a minority). I will propose that some mechanism should be devised to check that these institutions run according to the expectation of the tax payers. That, politicians in govt. should never convert these institutions into party organs as the case is today. It is no secret that these institutions are owned by MMD but funded by the public. I condemn these schemes to silently snatch public institutions from the rightful owners (tax payers).

  18. IWE CHILAKA Shikapwasha,we know ABOUT ZNBC BEING BIASED.YOU THINK YOU CAN FOOL PEOPLE.FAKI YOU

  19. @21 Max Mbizo, sometimes i do not want to continue pursuing discussions that will not bear any fruit. i missed your question on mfuchani but i am now available to take it, please repeat it here and i will make an effort to respond as best i can. as for your reference to intelligent people, please let them respond for themselves, but i have no doubt that they will have no regard for what you stand for. i would question their intelligence (the way I am questioning mr mwenye’s ) if they suggested that mr sata is the way forward for zambia with his 90 days more money in your pockets agenda (theft and corruption pure), what exactly does he stand for? the only thing that is consistent about him is that he is a dictator who wants to take us back to the one party state of 1973 – 1991.

    • @25 I will not call you stupid because doing so would be assuming you have got brains, i don’t know you well enough to jump to such a conclusion, however, I will say this much: People like you, Chanda Chimba the thug (the reincarnation of Richard Sakala- remember him?), Lifwekelo, Mumbi, and other like minded people (and I use that term loosely here) who ignore blatant abuse of public resources by the RB and MMD regime to protect your bread crumbs are the people destroying this country! I have worked in every province in Zambia and I have seen first hand what corruption has done to this country so don’t cheapen the issue for the sake of politics!

    • The unknown person is blank, he calls him/herself pf Government… there is no need to answer because people might not notice…..

  20. @pf govt…. ulitako sana cimo cinifye noyu wine Mpunocio…..does Shikapwasha realise how foolish he looks. i honestly think his nose fatten’s whenever he lies jus lyk the case of Pinocio… Pa last tukambokukulipilisha carbon Tax for that chi NOSE

  21. Iwe chi..ka..la pf government uli tole sana. #4 naiwe ulimbwa sana. How can u compare a public entity to a private one? U really need to be educated chi.kala cobe

    • dont be silly boy behave and have manners!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  22. i keep saying that whatever ills you may associate with the leadership of this country past and present, bwana sata cannot be exonerated, he has been part of the bad sides of unip, mmd and now seeks to transfer all the bad habits to government through the pf. he has never done anything good for this country, whenever he has appeared to do so it is because he has personal interests to serve. look at the central board of health that some dimwit blogger referred to the other day as a credit to bwana sata.

  23. that expensive monolith of a board was used by famous people not to buy drugs and equipment but to employ relatives and offer them outrageous salaries and allowances for sitting in their offices, attending workshops and lording it over the poor doctors and other hardworking medics in the hospitals. the medics in those offices far outnumbered those attending to patients in the hospitals. you want to know why zambia started experiencing severe shortages of medics in the hospitals which hon simbao is addressing now? the majority could not bear it and went on voluntary separation. and some dimwit wants to call that an achievement, sic!

  24. that pf stinks corruption in every pore but wants to point at others as the corrupt. and some dimwits buy it even in the face of overwhelming evidence. fortunately dimwits are always a tiny minority in every society.

  25. Ba Rev. do not allow politics to blind you even on things that are evident. whenever you want to comment on issues of national importance have it in mind that Jesus is seeing you speaking lies or truth.
REMEMBER YOUR CALLING IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN POLITICS

  26. I still stand by what i wrote. The problem with us Zambians is we like amalilisho.we talk a lot without actions. We have lamentably failed to make our leaders be accountable for their actions. We vote for the same recycled political. We cheer them when they jump from one party to the other like chameleons. On their way out they insult the same party they served passionately. How ironic. One thing ladies and gentlemen I refuse to be part and parcel of,is to insult our elders like His excellency Mr.Banda ,Hon.Sata,Mr.H.H or Hon Shakapwasha.Lets avoid insulting our elders and discuss real issues. Thanks no.22 for your intelligent contribution.

  27. #13 you have made my day ! Thank you. You have summed it all. Yes, MINISTER OF MISINFORMATION indeed !! Very fitting of Ronnie the Reverend of lies and deceipt. I feel and fear for this man.

  28. Careful people! Zambians are upset and if the public media continues with the nosense, these are issues that bring wars. Remember in times of wars ALL are affected regardless of the party affiliations. Zambians are not stupid, lets not take peace for granted. Lets play a clean game and let the good party win.

  29. Do people still watch ZNBC or read Daily Mugs, Ancient Times of Zambezi or stuff like?

Hands up if you do! lol

  30. The Honorable Reverand General Ronnie Shikapwasha MP, respect and honor are earned and not bestored by your position or a long boot licking tongue (in this case) or by your age. When so called elders loose all self respect and any sense of what is right for the sake of their waist line then the give up any claim to respectability from the rest of society young and old. Remember what they say Kumawa……. “Akuluaba nakuluchabe balibe malango kanuchi kangachepe kanamalango”

  31. Shikapwasha, you only few Lenjes in this MMD, you want to cover Banda, even if you know the truth about coverage, I waunder how long Banda is going to keep the Product of Mwanawasa, to keep your job, you have to sing to the tunes of Banda, otherwise, you will be fired. Thank God you still have survived up to now. Lenjes, Lambas and Solis aree not Banda’s favourities.

  32. # 29 pf government
you are a mouth peice for a GRZ that is benificial to forigners. We see the labanese and indians and whites living large because ”they are building”. Even zambians can build given the chance. This RBs GRZ wants to blind us with lebanse ware houses and forigne owned mines while our pipo can not have even 2 meals a day.The dust of your forigne owned construction sites will not blind our pipo nor will it cover the pangs of hunger they feel.

  33. The issue here is that the znbc is run by out tax, post is loans from the bank by it”s members.Shikapwa is just a form 5 pilot wabufi.Ask Col Chanda Kanyama MP,HE WAS A BETTER pilot than that shikapwasha. He only becaome Gen because he was KK’s right hand man.More on him ask KK or Sata.He is a seller out.Mrs Mwawansa is the one who saked the late President Mwanawansa to allow chimona shikapwasha to stand. To date he can not see the Mpushi family because it was said he was one who who used chibombo.com juju on the late hon Mapushi

  34. And I learn this man was suffering then was just introduced in politics because he could not manage to look after himself. So some guys helped him to atleast get a job in politics.

He is a dangerous character because he is blind to everything that does not suit him. Honestly who does not see the public media bias towards the ruling party? May God judge between Shikapwasha and the Zambian people.

  35. Why are people paying TV licenses just to see rubbish?

It is time people watched something of substance than the rubbish on Govt media

  36. what you think is rubbish on znbc is news for the majority of zambians who watch tv. whatever real zambians have been watching, we tune in to znbc when it is 19.00hrs news time daily, on tuesday 20.00hrs to chanda chimba3, on sunday evenings to that on government programmes by chileshe kandeta (which has proved very informative to ordinary citizens and business), and many others. to miss these very educative and informative programme you have to be a pf dimwit who expects nothing short of free nshima under the “90 days more money in your pockets” for lazy men. the rest of us are looking for opportunities share in zambia’s development or wealth.

    • PF government ! what is the defin ition of a real zambian? do we have fake ones? just because somone does not agree with your does not mean they must lose their birthright!

  37. there is a very thin line between government programmes and party activities because the government of the day implements the programmes of the party in power, the party manifesto. the government or party if you like would like to show case what they party promised in the their manifesto. but don’t worry about that, second republican president dr fredercik jacod titus chiluba bequeathed to us a perfect solution by liberalising the printed and electronic media. he realised this paradox from his experience as a trade unionist and a party/government leader. bwana sata knows this very well, ask him today.

  38. #4 you cannot compare post and ZNBC.post doesnt not use our money to run which znbc does. it does not mean when other do evil then you do also the same what world can we creat with you people who think like you. May God grant you wisdom

  39. Be careful Ba Gen Shikapwasha, No one is above the LAW even untouchable Ghadafi is having Issues, ZNBC has always favored the ruling party, this is why they have failed to compete on International standards. Very Unethical we just have to Sale it. No need.

  40. Imagine. My child is 6 years old but everytime i try to change the channel to ZNBC refuses because she memorises how in most cases the first statement of the news which goes……………………… President rupiya banda………………… its unfortunate that even those called reveland are such a demise. He may have found other ways of defending that but not in this manner. anyway time will tell as i havealways stated. I respect time tho shikapwasha at his age dont respcet time. God is faithful

  41. @45, everybody knows the empty drums, they sound like “90 days more money in your pockets”. now is that me?

  42. @48, oh my God, what a father! i hope that you will not indoctrinate and condition that 6yr old into making bwana sata her role model. please have a heart and spare that little poor soul.

    • We are talking about ZNBC being baised, you keep on coming back to Michael Sata… are you afraid of something.

  43. @47, just remember that bwana sata would be quite happy with the arrangement if he came to power, only that he will never attain his ambition because his campaign platform stands on lies.

  44. it has always been like this since independence and bwana sata has never complained from his hey days in unip and mmd. he was in fact the great defender of znbc when it was much worse. chiwamila galu……

  45. Minister of MISINFORMATION nowonder you have discredited your party to the point of losing elections this year,SHAME.

  46. Bushe ililine it.ol.e lyalishiba abana bakwe balabelenga efyo lilanda.
    Lyena apaliponse kulatalikafye!
Ichimona kwati mutwe wa bwamba bwakwe
    ZED NBC is corrupt
The corruption started from RB, it trickled down to the Directors and down to the smallest person at DeadNBC:d:-w

  47. This man will be kadad by God for being such a liar..what man does not see what ZNBC is all about..that’s why I resigned from ZNBC because of political int
    erference

  48. the mammoth rally in mongu has turned out to be a big bubble for bwana sata, after the comments yesterday from former ngambela of bre maxwell mututwa (yes the 91 year old who was locked up, now he is all rb), and the other guy the linyunga ndambo rebel leader. the former warns zambians not to vote for gay activists, the latter suggests that bwana sata cannot be trusted to restore bre because he has refused to commit himself in writing! nay, i expected no less from the lozis! and all this from znbc tv, who else would bring us such important news items? little wonder musa mwenye of laz wants to stifle znbc, who in pf wants the people of zambia to hear such news!

  49. Ba shikapwasha,
iam MMD,but the way the public media has been messed give me nausea(sp) either.you know instead of sending the message to the people even we sympathisers have ended up been put off.you the problem is that you can not see beyond your nose that the people we are dealing with in this era are different from those of the unip era who used to accept anything being stashed their throats no matter how dirty and stinking.i was on the copperbelf and i witnessed how people detesh this ka stand up for zambia newspaper that even vendors dont even want to have anything to do with it. Now if the audience in cb have rejected that paper who are you selling that news.you need to reassess you ways of effective communating to the people.otherwise you have got no audience and my heart bleeds.

  50. When People complain that ZNBC is biased, the UNIP members who have defected to MMD start talking about Sata whom they fear so much. we as citzens of Zambia are not interested in one sided stories where those accused are not given a chance to answer back. ZNBC is run by our Tax and the K3,000.00 we pay. Please we do not want war. MMD was formed to promote many parties in the country Until the Party was infested by UNIP party members.

  51. PF government! can you define who a real Zambian is? do not take away any one’s birth right just because you do not agree with them. we are tired of these divisive terms such as peace lovinf zambians, and real zambians to differenciate between MMD supporters and their opponents. lets debate intelligently without getting personal or insightful

  52. To all my readers,
    I salute you.
I have been following the drama happening in our country though am in another continent. When politicians want to defend themselves or their party, they use the word Development. Recently, i was home and was surprised to see what our Govt is claiming of having done for Zambia and Zambians. Nothing has changed. In terms of education, my dear brothers and sisters, i am here not because i want this country, but because i can not afford to pay huge sums of Kwacha there. If the Govt is serious, why not support or sponsor youths that are intelligent but can not afford to pay? If you check, who are UNZA or CBU, its for who are related to big fish in Govt. Sad to say and shame upon our Leaders, who only talk about youths as future leaders. If you can not educate

  53. Empty drum, empty drum. One one blogger has taken up that title. Posting, posting and posting. Wrong topic after wrong topic. pf government, man, find a hobby. You will soon disappear like your godfather Veteran Senior Citizen, Bootlicker, Capitalist and the other MMD cadres. Ala it is difficulty to defend the indefensible curruption gurus like RB. Give up bwana.

  54. Excellent goods from you, man. I’ve understand your stuff prior to and you are simply too fantastic. 55. Excellent items from you, man. I have take note your stuff prior to and you’re simply too excellent. I really like what you’ve bought right here, certainly like what you’re saying and the way wherein you assert it. You’re making it entertaining and you still care for to stay it wise. 56. I’ve been browsing online more than 3 hours as of late, yet I never found any attention-grabbing article like yours. It’s lovely price enough for me. In my view, if all webmasters and bloggers made just right content as you probably did, the web might be a lot more helpful than ever before.
