The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Zambia says it is disappointed with the Patriotic Front (PF) for barring journalists from the State-owned media.

Journalist from the state owned media, namely Times of Zambia, Zambia Daily Mail and Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation, were barred from covering the party’s first General Conference, which begun today in Kabwe.

MISA Zambia chairperson Daniel Sikazwe says that while his organizations appreciates the reservation that the PF has with the reporting of the State-owned media that should not be reason enough to bar them from covering the PF General Conference, which has attracted lots of interest from all sections of society in the country.

Mr. Sikazwe says that the research indicates that the barring of the journalists from the State-owned media has been endorsed from high up in the PF hierarchy.

He says that his organization condemns the selective accreditation of journalists to all public functions because it amounts to censorship.

Mr. Sikazwe has since appealed to the PF leadership to immediately rescind its decision and to permit the State-owned media to cover this historical General Conference.

He says that MISA hopes that the PF leadership will heed to the advice and do the right thing for the sake of democracy and freedom of the press, which the PF professes uphold dearly.

Meanwhile, Patriotic front leader Michael Sata has revealed that the patriotic front will ensure that it puts in place mechanisms that will prevent the MMD from rigging the elections.

PF leader Michael Sata says that the patriotic front will not allow the MMD to rig the elections in any way.

Mr. Sata says that the PF will among other this deploy a number of election monitors in most parts of the country.

Mr. Sata speaking today at the opening of the PF general conference in Kabwe stated that the PF is geared and ready for the election.

Mr. Sata has further called for democracy at the PF national convention.

And Mr. Sata has stated that the MMD government has failed to run the affairs of the country.

Mr. Sata says that says that Zambians should vote wisely as the date of the elections approaches.

The general conference was monitored on hot fm radio in Lusaka this afternoon.

  1. Those who have ears let them hear. These are the signs of a vindictive government in waiting. Full of grudges and dictorial tenancies.  expect the death of blogging and media freedom once they assume power.  Once in power they will spend all their term of office witch hunting and plundering.

Anyway,  In GOD  and Zambian VILLAGERS we trust. They will  save us again from this THUG Nation in waiting.

  2. I can`t blame Pf for barring these vivusela`s.All they do is write crap about the opposition, while glorifying whatever MMD does.

  3. We understand Sikazwe is just doing his work and has to be seen to be doing something but we sorry the so called ”dogs” won’t be allowed to disturb our first ever conference. The journalists who have been accredited are enough , they will cover the conference adquently, thank you very much.
By the way does anyone know when Choma boys will hold their conference?

  4. MISA, stop wasting your dissapointments. Fight for other causes. Its only journalists who are allowed in the convention. DeadNBC Slimes of Zambia and Zambia Dead Mail are not practising journalism. So what do they want to come and do in the conference?

  5. PF and Sata should get their heads out from their asses! They bitterly complain of lack of coverage from public media yet they bar the same people? Cobra is and has always been a goon and expecting him to change is perhaps asking for too much. Let Mmembe & co continue covering the old fart and let him not complain about state media black out ever again.

  6. Good move they were just going to publish lies. The so called public media heads were called at State House o Tuesday where they were told to ensure that Sata was finished by publishing any rubish they can creat about him. And indeed on Wednsday the Zambia Daily Mail negatively mentioned Sata 35 times in that edition

  7. Thankyou for barring those I.D.O.T.S. Let them go and cover Lifwekelo, chanda chimba, mumbi, RB and Dora siliya. We dont need them as their rubish reporting is not worth the k3000 we pay. Viva pabwato! Doro bulwele bwa chizonono!

  8. Not really a complete surprise. This is highly expected from PF, dictatorship qualities are hard to conceal.
The barring journalists from the State-owned media simply mean that If PF was in power, they would close down all private media organizations criticizing them because they don’t want to be criticized.

  9. Good to note. they have made right decision. why allow vuvuzelas for another party. Good Chilufya. We love you. God is guiding you. they wanted to report the bad about the convention and not the good part

  10. A very brilliant move by the PF administration, what the hell did the MMD media want to do at the convention? These chaps should actually have been beaten to teach them manners they are dogs.

  11. WE don’t need ZNBC, DAILY MAIL, TIMES OF ZAMBIA we have enough to cover us, The post is there and so is ZEDLEAKS to give us live updates.

  12. Sikazwe, how come you have kept quiet with Chamba Chinda III’s rubbish coverage, you have remained mum with DeadNBC, Slimes and Daily Snail’s coverage of the opposition. What baSata should do is fire all people from a chief reporter/producer level up to chief executives. Mwaya mwe banyama.

  13. @MISA -Sikazwe
You listen to” Mwemakufi yandi” from Nathan Nyirenda. Mwashalafye nechisungu mukanwa. All these days when state owned media is abusing PF and Sata you have been deaf and blind only to work up when they want to enter PF’s territory for slander. You have no back borne. Just shut your stinking beak.

  14. balance up things gentlemen. why should state media now hurry to cover the PF convention when they have denied the party space in their presentations. Rubbiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiish. that is good kept it up PF.

  15. Press ‘by air’ welcome Unip under Alexander Kamalondo and Micheal Sata..why oh wy do we make such blunders……? You could have restrictions on the closed door meetings but not the opening and closing…all the best as PF rigs the elections….Sata is unopposed by decree

  16. The banning of media means there is more KAPONYA-style of PHILOSOPHY to be swept under the carpet at Mulungushi. Only The Post can best interpret the tennets of journalism Sata and his PF gansters enjoy. Imagine, the whole mass of audience sitting there with their faculty of reasoning forcefylly switched off. If this is the brand of democracy the British-Guy Scott can brain-wash his PF followers, then the British Embassy must be ashamed of their national. We are yet to learn more dramma from Mulungushi. As for now most Zambians can freely walk about and sleep in peace as the gansters drink their minds off away from many towns. Wish the Post the best of news monopoly.

  17. One British Tabloid Newspaper editor once said, ‘My job is to separate the wheat from the chaff. Throw away the wheat and print the chaff.’ No newspaper makes money by printing the truth as plain as all can see. It is the chaff, that makes money. So, the richest newspaper in Zambia today will be the one that prints most chaff.

  18. What would people have said if the MMD convention had barred The Post? The Post being a private owned paper had even less right of covering the MMD convention than the The Times has of the PF convention. If the PF can do such a thing against its perceived enemies now, while not in government, I just wonder what they will do when they are in power. This party is antibody positive for a serious dictatorial disease and if elected into power, the disease will be full blown. Yet again, The Post will be on the side against government.

  19. The truth is PF does not need the public media neither do the public media need PF. I hope from today noone ever mentions about the other, not even in their dreams. That will be a better way to put the non refundable 3,000pin monthly donation to good use. By the way congratulations to PF for holding of your First ever conventions. That is one negative struck off the list.

  20. Nothing shocking with this move, afterall who doesn’t know that Sata does not like to be criticised?

  21. It is unbeleivable that PF (?blind) followers see the barring of journalists as a positive step. Trying to win at all costs creates such a desprete attitude but sensible Zambians should look beyond these people’s attitude and try to dissect what it that makes them agree with anything their party does. It can be anything, but one hopes it is not tribe.

  22. This dent on Sata will keep him away from ever becoming President of Zambia. Congrats are in order for having to host the first ever pf convention however a sham it will turn out to be.

  23. You will trya all sorts of tricks you will fail, you will try Chanda chimba!!! you will still fail, you will try Chiluba’s funeral you will still fail, you will try to shut LAZ up you will still fail, you will try to romove mattresses from mulungushi rock of authority you will still fail. our minds have indeed been made up it’s change we want and it’s coming soon than anticipated.

  24. even znbc had been allowed their headline would have been “william banda says pf covention was a flop” hahahahahahaha

  25. We are preparing a list of people who will removed from ZNBC, Times and Daily Mail. Obviously topping the lists will be Mupeto, Phiri and Milimo. ZANIS is also under serious consideration.

  26. When Sata becomes president his main priority must be convert Zambezi Airways back to Zambia Airways and the rest should follow later.

  27. Sata should then hastly install a board of directors at ZNBC, appoint new directors to manage the Zambia Daily Mail, Times of Zambia, and ZNIS

  28. Well done for keeping them out. They can’t use constructive criticism properly as they are afraid to bite the hand that feeds them (RB). GO BACK AND BOW DOWN TO THAT DICTATOR WANNABE.

  29. Sata must also fire all those that have been using bottom power to climb the ladder. Oh!! no need for this for they will have been voted out already by the people.

  30. misa for blame pf you have created your own mess by selective report why should you complain now. let them go and report on RB and Vice and Shaka what do they want from pf you mean have run out RB news

  31. Please spare me insults, MMD when will you stop being hypocrites? You are quick to point out and mourn about pf’s refusal to allow ZNBC from covering the proceedings at the convention, are you not the same people who went and removed matresses from the same convention? So chiwamila galu kuluma mbuzi, if i were MMD party or a simple cader, i would not rush into making statements or allegations, but sit down and try to take stock on the actions that would have compelled the pf to behave in the manner that they did. Grow up and remember that what ever goes up must come down, whatever goes round always comes around

  32. What sata is dong now banning GRZ Media is what would happen if PF had to win. The Post will become Sata’s public enemy number one from day one of his office. That sad that is just an illusion. PF is not winning the elections in 2011

  33. Let these guys continue airing Rupia and the entire mmd crew, and you will see how ZNBC will become bored.

  34. This undemocratic move by PF sets the stage for speculations. Here we go. The news black-out was planned as a smoke-screen to cover-up for the annointing of a new wedding for Sata and Masebo. We hear that Bishop Mpundu, Fr. Bwalya, Fr. Miha and Bishop Banda will be the Guests of Honour to bless the newly wed couple and eo ensure that Inonge Wina, Malupenga and Kabinga and hypnotised to render them importent . Guy Scott will be the Ba-Nshibukombe on behalf of Sata as arranged by his relatives in Mbeya.

  35. How many Governments do we have in Zambia? suprising that the party which is not yet in power can act like this, what more when they are voted in? please don’t let the KAPONYA’S destroy our mother Zambia.

  36. SUCH IS EXPECTED FROM OLD RECYCLED LEADERS WITH COLONIAL MENTALITY..THEY HAVE EVEN BARRED MOST OF US YOUNG ONES FROM ASCENDING TO HIGHER POSITIONS INSPITE OF GOOD QUALIFICATIONS..SUCH TRENDS CAN ONLY STOP IF WE PUT IN NEW YOUNG LEADERS EACH ELECTION TIME.

  37. VERY GOOD! ZNBC AND ITS SIBLINGS, TIMES OF ZAMBIA AND ZAMBIA DAILY MAIL NEED SERIOUS REFORM.

WHY DO YOU WANT TO HAVE BOTH CHANDA CHIIMBA # AND PF IN THE SAME BREATH OF YOUR NEWS?

THUMBS UP TO PF FOR BARRING THE MMD DAILY MAIL, TIMES OF MMD AND MMD PARTY BROADCASTING CORPORATION.

  38. Someone will always complain and try to discredit the PF move and it is well expected. Considering the manner in which the government owned media have been reporting about Michael Sata and the PF. It is really cool that they barred them because they do not report the truth, at least there are many private media represented there and the government owned would have misled the nation. They have reaped what they have been sowing. There is totally no dictatorial manner in this case and people claiming it are simply insane. Let us not be too quick to condemn them, we all know how the PF has been treated in the recent days, so they are simply trying to avoid the media that are reporting ill about them. Some MMD minister refuse to talk to the Post journalists and MISA does not complain! Rubbish

  39. All these guys condemning PF action are MMD & UPND/William Banda thugs because they were only interested in what Daily Mail will report tomorrow. Remember what they reported on Sata’s trip to Oxford university. What was so special about covering PF today? To hear Edward Deadwood’s or Chifire’s version. It started with Machungwa on Mobi tv yesterday condemning the convention

  40. WHAT IS THE POINT OF ALLOWING GOVT. MEDIA WHEN THE PF KNOWS WHAT KIND OF STORIES THIS MEDIA WILL CARRY!!!

  41. In life one should know that you will always reap what you sow. MISA should not even complain of being barred because they have been very hostile to PF and in particular to Michael Sata. They have been divorced to PF and I do not see why they should be interested in them. Leave PF alone and go and blow the trumpets for MMD

  42. The PF is deemed undemocratic by some sections of our society. This negative tag will continue to haunt the party if affairs continue to be run behind the shelf. It is a fact that the PF is force to reckon with on the Zambian political scene. Other bloggers and myself have on this forum congratulated the PF for holding this historic conference but what is obtaining now, am afraid will only confirm that indeed the PF thrives on undemocratic tendencies/practices.

  43. i did not realise just how much chanda chimba iii had affected pf, he has really put a can of worms in the head of bwana sata. by the way what happened to the injunction that bwana sata wanted against chanda chimba iii? is it true what we have heard that bwana sata was advised by a sympathetic judge not to waste his time complaining about matters that were put in the public domain by the post, and that therefore he should sueing the post instead?

  44. Well done PF for not allowing those useless public media, job well done let them go and cover more of chanda chimba, lifweko and nyama soya. Those vuvuzelas are useless and not journalists. Let them also go on parading more of some useless chiefs from luapula instead of covering the PF Convention. Nako ifitile bondate, Viva PF Viva Hon MC SATA, Come september tuzabalola

  45. Please please somebody 4rm MMD give me 2 good mature reasons why MMD RB team should be alowed to report ad monitor PF convenction whn there motive is known even to a mad person. Please gve me a break and just keep on fatterning coz its your time. PF 4 fair leadership.

  46. Country men my fellow MMD members I have noticed with displeasure the momentum the our collegues in PF have gained. It is a fact that it be easy to have an outright win our Engineer has left us the hour of need and this SATA also I was misinformed that his very ill, from the the events of this afternoon it seems something was wrong with the reports we received. PF is formidable than in the last elections my worry gentlemen and ladies is what this man will do to us should we let him win the man is very vindictive I’m very scared that this man might win 2011 elections going by events in Western and Luapula Provinces

  47. This is another classic example of our young and fragile democracy. Even the Mm’embe controlled media which claims to be objective is swang far left to the so called state owned media. The first mistake in our democracy is to assume that opposition leaders are more democratic than the rulling party. The second mistake is to allow people that have no constituency to be leaders of polical parties. All these politicians need to be in parliamment and iron out a common agenda for zambia & not only for Banda, Sata or Hichilema.

  48. If ZNBC, Zambia Daily Mail and Times of Zambia were like BBC I would hear MMD bloggers. It is important to note that the public media has never being this biased through out the history of Zambia. The jounalists at these institutions have no credibility left in them. Even me if I were Sata afetr winning elections the following day I would fire everybody and close all public media houses

Even in KK, Chiluba and Mwanawasa we had some credibility of these institutions we could even see Dean Mungomba for 2 to 3 minutes not this time.

Baba it is important to speak out wrong regardless of who is doing it MMD or PF otherwise shut your mouth and go and eat delele mixed with beans.

  49. Is this PF democracy? Zambia not only fought for political demcracy in 1991 but also freedom of expression, association etc as long as one does not go against law.PF should realise that It is the main opposition and their convetion is in public interest.I cannot imagine US Democrats banning Fox Journalists or any of their critics from covering their conventio. Chiluba was insulted even when he was in power, but never did he ban any section of of the media from covering state or party functions. This gives you the taste of what load of nonsense is yet to come should PF given some hope of power. If elected, God forbid! Sata will not tolerate criticism or freedom of expression, we will be heading back to the dectatorial days of the Kaunda regime. Lets stop this lunatic.

  50. When there is a rally for PF ZNBC,daily and times do not carry the coverage but how come today they rushed for PF conference, for what? MISA zambia should just shutup coz they know how biased the government controlled media is and they don’t voice out.We pay K3000 for MMD news only.Good show PF for not allowing them, instead let them go and cover RB,Dora,Lifwekelo,Chanda Chimba and abashala namubeshiba ukwabula nokulumbula amashina yabo.Takwaba pofye coverage iyaba so biased nga znbc, daily and times.

  51. in. They went as far as blocking blogs for an hour or so in a manner done by State intelligence IT hacks. The special branch must have been helping

  52. Iam very convinced that Zambia  watchdog is working with Red Brick. The Watchdog is published by the Shu3. Today they published a letter claiming it was from Lubinda to Kabimba. I emailed the addresses on the letter. My mail bounced saying no such email address and I then blogged this. ‘Your comment is awaiting moderation’ said a message on their site. My blog was then deleted. I sent another one stating that the PF should sue Watchdog because what they were doing was treasonous since It was designed to cause riots in Zambia I was again met with that message; Awaiting moderation. They then deleted it. I sent another msg but they deleted it again.

  53. They went as far as blocking blogs for an hour or so in a manner done by State intelligence IT hacks. The special branch must have been helping

  54. Come  on you shu shu shus Luska times never gives me this “your comment is awaiting moderation” stuff! whatsup? is this how advanced the red  brick have bcum??

  55. Daniel waba no umulomo, nelo ule lya kuli RBish, ule fwaya uku tuletela amashushi yobe!!!! Ka tankamanine uko!! Pumbafu sana!!!

  56. LT you are so f’u;c;k;in;g s;t;u;pi;d, what does “w,ab.a” & “u.l.u” have to do with inappropriate language????

  57. It was a good move!  MISA should have been the first to have indicated disappointment at Chanda Chimba the twentieth from the State media on his relentless attack on his excellence the President Michael Sata.  Since they had their hands folded up it should not surprise us for a good move by SATA.  What else were they going to be doing there if not …  for RB?

  58. hahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. It goes to show how much unemployment PF would create once in power. What else will the party do except to fire employees of the same institutions. Believe you me PF is likely to create mass unemployment. RB & HH work together and see how you can stop innocent citizens being sent off their jobs.

  59. I enjoy reading all of you MMD parasites squealing here like pigs, no jobs for useless people on the boat, sorry maningi

  60. Thugs have at last taught Government vuvuzelas a good lesson, Well Done PF the lesson remains for the PF vuvuzela, the post newspapers fools. Its a pity today in zambia we dont have a newspaper but compaign magarzines for PF and MMD. Here I have to congratulate the indipendent media like Qfm, Muvi TV for the Outstanding reporting and coverage. And shame on Post newspaper and Times of Zambia, Daily Mail and ZNBC uncultured Jounalists

  61. WELL DONE PF. WHY SHOULD THEY COVER YOUR CONVENTION NOW WHEN ALL ALONG THEY’VE BEEN TELEVISING NOTHING BUT DIRT ABOUT U?!!! IF ALLOWED IN ALL THEY’LL DO IS FIND WHATEVER BIT OF NEGATIVE THEY CAN FIND. WE DONT NEED ZNBC & DAILY MAIL; RB’S VUVUZELAS. SO THOSE SAYING SATA HAS BANNED THE MEDIA, SHUT UP! WE WILL HAVE PLANTY OF COVERAGE FROM THE PRIVATE MEDIA SUCH AS THE POST & MUVI TV.
EVEN WHEN U’VE BEEN PUT TO SHAME U R STILL BLABBING ATI PF HAS WRONGED. THE PAST MONTHS, THE ZNBC THAT CHARGES US TV LICENSE EVERY MONTH HAS LITERALLY BECOME MMD TV AND U’VE ALL BEEN QUIET. LAST NIGHT’S NEWS FOCUSSED A LOT ON HOW THE PF HAD BANNED PUBLIC MEDIA AND BUT TURNED A BLIND EYE TO HOW ZNBC HADNT TALKED ABOUT PF & UPND. ITS A SHAME REALLY!

  62. It was a very unwise decision to bar state media. PF must lead by example and should have allowed the state media in.

  63. THANK YOU PF: POST was barred from even covering Chiluba’s Funeral. THANK PF, NATASHA. KEEP CHASING THEM. INFACT CLOSE LUSAKA TIMES AS WELL. IT IS OWNED BY MMD

  64. It’s nostagical dejavu, the bible clearly says “the same measure you alot to others, the same you shall recieve” it’s a principal you can’t do away with. MISA dont cry today coz by November 2011 the MMD vuvus would be showering our president, Sata, with praises. PF & Sata will show you political governance. VIVA PF.

  65. @Katongo (Chinngola)
you dont’t get do you? I mean who should lead by example between the mad dogs and pf? Who is in control of state machinery here? Who is in government here? Who is oppressing who here? Who has tendencies of violence here? Who has unfair practices here? Who is persecuting who here? Who elements of thugery and malice like William Banda, Shikapwasha, and Dolla Silliti? When you answer these questions, then you will get the answer as to why the pf did what the had to do to ZNBC.

  66. @Katongo( Chingola) think b4 u type these things.,
Y cant the ruling MMD & their MMD TV lead by example? Its simple logic. ZNBC didnt want to cover PF, y shud they complain now? Sata & The PF are simply giving back what was started. So its better 2 keep quiet if u dont understand whats going on instead of telling whatever silly thing pops up in your head.

  67. ONLY THE POST WILL BE ALLOWED TO OPERATE IF SATA WINS.
THIS IS P.F DEMOCRACY AT WORK YOU SEE.

SATA NEEDS TO LEARN THAT WHAT HE SAYS IS PUBLIC INFORMATION AND THERE CAN BE NO TWISTING OF WORDS IF ALL JOURNALISTS ARE ALLOWED.

ZEDLEAKS IS GETTING LESS VIEWERS THAN KAPECHA 360.

  68. Msana Wanzili,
How can you possibly justify this? You would think the PF would be the first to wish to demonstrate transparency and showcase its democractic lead. By alienating these media are you not declaring war against them?

You must know what they say about enemies. “Keep them closer”. I couldn’t care less whether it’s MMD, UPND or PF. They should all be fighting for press freedom. Despite your party not being given what I believe is a fair hearing.

  69. Chibwenzi cha nkhwangwa chikoma pokwela chimuti poseluka chiipa, M’membe my brother open up your eyes and see. SATA is using you to get to the top but the truth is that the relationship you have will vanish when he ascends to the helm. My advice is that be professional enough in reporting because you shall need the same people you are dehumanising. Be good to people on your way and they shall be good to you on your way down.

  70. Its good that these I.D.I.O.T S were not allowed at the conference. Let them serve they boss at state house!

  71. VIVA SATA. MMD times of Zambia, MMD daily mail and MMD znbc. Remember you will pay for the mis use of the hard earned money We pay for you in order to run to surport MMD. First we shall remove the emunity of your president and then togather we shall deal wuth you. Forget about dictorial tendancy you are talking about. This country needs a man with an iron fist to correct the wrong things happening, other wise you will nerver the Zambia we all expect to have.

  72. If so much shit is hapenning under you, then know you are not in leadership. ZNBC,Times of Zambia and Daily mail has never been manupulated to this extend. What is the fear? The guilty are always afraid. Zambians wake up the panic and desperation you are seeing is sign of so many bad things done under the current Government and people are so scared of the King Cobra. Only a fool cant realise there are enomous wrong things going on.

  73. MISA you are HYPOCRITES!!!!! Why don’t you condemn GRZ sponsored and controlled media for their biased reporting using tax payer’s money? What did you expect them to cover, only negatives? Who is interested in negative reporting? Get a life ka mwaiche iwe and be useful elsewhere!
MMD does not only bar journalists from The Post but they (MMD) beat them up as well! How far has that beating case gone?! Ati MISAAAAAAAH!

  74. Daniel Zikazwe, you ahve never been disapointed with ZNBC,Times of zambia and Daily mail coverages? Have you been sick?

  75. I think if objectivity is anything to go by, the question is why was ZNBC and other govt controlled organisations barred? Is there anything ZNBC has done that is a secret from the public eye to merit such?Has ZNBC’s coverage of their news been fair? If some of these questions can be answered then most of u who are assuming to think right could be justified to condemn.
