Government has spent about K 13.9 billion for procuring a 4×4 tractor and plough for farmers in Nalikwanda constituency in Mongu District.

Area Member of Parliament Professor Geoffrey Lungwangwa disclosed the development in an interview with ZANIS in Mongu yesterday.

Speaking before the handover, Mr. Lungwangwa said the equipment was bought after the constituency development fund (CDF) committee working with farmers decided to buy a 4×4 tractor plough using the (CDF) money in order to revamp agriculture production in the area.

He said government also offers subsidized fertilizer and seed to all farmers in order to improve agriculture production and make people earn more income to support their families.

Mr. Lungwangwa added that the next phase of development in the area will focus more on women, youth and farmers who will be empowered through cattle farming, chicken rearing and other activities that will make people in the constituency benefit.

He added that government is implementing a number of developmental projects in Nalikwanda constituency and cited some of them as the construction of new schools, clinics, improving feedier roads and clearing of canals.

Mr. Lungwangwa further said that people of Nalikwanda will soon be connected to communication so that more people can access network on their phones.

  1. hey tractors are very expensive mwee, but bo lungwangwa, now i know you are a night school professor

  2. RB is using ZANU-PF tactics, fertilizer and free land plows… the man will scoop all villages mark my word.

  3. No no no @1. you are the unschooled one. This is how a proffesor should do things. CDF must be used to fit in overall poverty alliviation programmes. You can see that the Prof has thought through the whole process and is guiding his people on how it will all work. Bwana Zero Option you beta go and complete your grade nine. You want CDF to be used for garbage collection the way Mumbi Phiri would do things. THINK

  4. How many tractors did he hand over? It seems it is only one tractor he handed over costing that much, that is cheating. One tractor can not cost that much, impossible. Somebody is stealing money while others are watching. If you want to find the cost of tractors search on internet and you will find for yourself from manufacturers, K14 billion is a big joke. Why do we waste so much money as a country? Let him publish the invoice or the company where that tractor was bought from. The professor has turned into a liar and thief. Please God help our country!

  5. #3, i know what am talking about, cos your so called professor messed up the mighty unza and i feel sorry that he had to go into politics just to go and continue stealing money. Your professor is on record of buying for his personal house curtains costing 9 million kwacha and billed unza for this rubbish. talk of something else bwana

  6. It’s a bold move but iam curious about the purchasing price. How many horse power got and how many accsories has the same tractor has? A scania 360HP irizar bus will cost about 4 billion, a tractor depending on the HP will be a bit expensive but how much it can cost should be the question.

  7. Seriously there must be some mistake in the report somewhere. You can’t buy one tractor for over $2million.

  8. Something is seriously wrong with this price. I mean, I have never heard of a tractor that costs well over US$2 million. Unless Lungwangwa is pocketing something here, the maths just don’t add up. And knowing Nalikwanda, it is a huge constituency, just what the difference in hell will one tractor make? And these last minute projects of MMD, ladies and gentlemen, you cannot develop a country in a piece meal fashion like this. You need long term programs to do so.

  9. The headline says tractors procurement yet the story talks about one tractor. LT reporting leaves much to be desired. The story needs to re-done and re-published.

  10. if this price is true. someone has stolen money. besides CDF is not that high i believe hence please LT edit your stories before you lose all credibility.

  11. Bo Lusaka Times, can you please find out again from the professor whether it is one tractor or they are many. One tractor cannot cost K13.9 bn.

  12. The idea is alright, there is too much poverty in Nalikwanda constituency where you don’t find even a sngle chicken for sale during field work, or malasha or anything you can buy to leave money in the hands of the villagers. The real issue with Barotseland is to ensure people have something to sell, and what can this be apart from agricultural produce? So good work Professor. However, correct the amounts reported, a tractor can be bought for US 1,000 nowadays. I urge Mulyata, and Charles Milupi to do the same urgently. As I speak, there is no single tractor drawn plough in Barotseland. This shall be the first one, hence the hullaballoo!!!
