TWO Zambian women have been arrested in Sao Paulo, Brazil, for drug trafficking.
Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) spokesperson, John Nyawali said in a statement yesterday that Catherine Shapati, 54, and Audrey Namutowe, 28, both residents of Lusaka were arrested at Sao Paulo International Airport for trafficking in different quantities of cocaine.

Ms Namutowe was found with about 10 kilogrammes of cocaine concealed in several handbags which were put in her suit case while Ms Shapati was found with an undisclosed quantity of cocaine hidden in the backpacks of her suitcase.
The two were arrested in separate incidents by the Brazilian federal police as they were about to board South African Airways flights to Johannesburg.

Ms Shapati and Ms Namutowe are being held at a women’s prison in Sao Paulo awaiting trial.
“The commission would like to warn members of the public especially women that there is a vicious and ruthless drug cartel operating in the Southern African Development Community region and is attempting to set up base in Zambia to recruit more drug couriers,” Mr Nyawali said

  1. I know things are tough but why would you go to do this?

These are plonkers who brag ku Zed. I wish you were caught in China

    Or EAU. Yak!

  2. My dear Zambian sisters, please lets think before we get ourselves caught up in this mess. Mr Nyawali has stated that there’re drug cartels setting up in Zambia. These people will only set up where there are people willing to fall for their tricks. I dont think these Zambian women are travelling with a gun to their heads & forced to carry the drugs. You are mothers who once locked up may not see your children for 20 years plus because of your Get Rich Quickly scheme. Imagine leaving your 2 year old child & being given a 25 year jail term! if you live through it you, you will only see your child when they are grown and will not have a relationship with you! how do you live with that? Please dont envy those items, its illgotten wealth! Put God 1st and everything else shall be provided for!

  3. These women with their boy friends from nigeria are really embarassing our country, these nigerians should be chased out of southern africa ,what i know is that our women are well cultured and taught to start drug trafficking. These i.diots from west africa are destroying our image.Sometimes their women even forge passports claiming zambian citizenship.I HATE NIGERIANS.

  4. What does it have to do with DEC, they were caught by Brazilians! Nyawali just likes to talk while others work.

  5. These women wanted to move from lower middle income country to high income country. 10kg = 10,000 grammes (undiluted), probably 20,000 grammes on the street. At $50 per gramme we are talking one million US for Ms Namutotwe

  6. # 8 you are right bcoz of there boyfriends from Nigeria are the causer by promising them heaven marriages. I think those who have nothing to do should may be apply for R4M on Muvitv than involved in drug trafficking. Govt should find something to do for our young women.

  7. #8 don’t blame nigerians as if these women do not have the power to say  no. Drug dealers always look for women whose weakness is money to manipulate. Theres just something wrong with society today where people want to get rich quick without the hard work using short cuts. Most of these women that fall for such are always the ones with low moral character, low integrity and always looking for materialistic things. You just have to learn to accept that some of our zambian women are just as corrupt as the foreigners you want to use as scapegoats. These women will do anything to keep up the facade of being the joneses and will do anything

  8. What if you are not caught? Those that are caught are just a small fraction. Its business you win or lose. What we should be saying is not to stop the trade but to change laws. After some countries got rich and are still getting rich, then they criminalize these drugs and here you are condemning others. Have you ever asked yourselves how foolish we are, you arrest porchers and a rich guy tells you according to a certain convention you MUST destroy the ivory or tasks. Publicly we do that. How funny and foolish.
