The Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) has expressed concern at reports of political activities aimed at intimidating rural voters.
Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) members are allegedly threatening the electorate in Kawambwa District that they will use computers to know who they will vote for in the forthcoming general elections.
FODEP Executive Director McDonald Chipenzi confirms to QFM that his organization has received reports of political leaders of the MMD trying to take advantage of electorate in the district just to get votes.
Mr. Chipenzi states that FODEP facilitators in the field have reported that members of the MMD are intimidating electorates in the rural areas; an act he says has left many voters scared.
He says his organization is yet to send more of its facilitators to other rural parts in the country to assess the raised concerns.
Mr. Chipenzi has since appealed to voters in Kawambwa and the nation at large to ignore such statements and instead turn up in numbers on the 20th of September, 2011 and vote for their preferred candidates.
The FODEP executive director has also reminded politicians that such desperate acts are punishable by law as they are a total disregard of the provisions of the electoral code of conduct.

In 2008 Movement for Mad Dogs (MMD) used the same tactic to threaten villagers in rural areas. I think such behavoiur should be severely punishable by law, such threats undermines zambian democracy and freedom of choice and it also promote voter aparth. Honestly RB should be held responsible for his cadres actions.

#6, Not convincing to me either. FODEP is discredited and compromised, reduced to spreading rumours. If they went to Kawambwa today, voters will tell them that they do not need any coercion to vote for a party which has delivered real money in their pockets if they work hard. These desperados will not stop at anything to cheat people. Agony for FODEP and other liars is that rural people can see the desperation, try town dwellers.

FODEP is ANTI-MMD,so they are trying to come up with a strategy of discrediting MMD since they know PF is losing miserably.Ignore them,they will never achieve their goal of building Sata’s image.Look at what its President Dr.Alex Ngoma did!Very stupid.When I heard what he did,I did not even doubt it because I know who Alex is since we were school-mates at Saint Francis Secondary School in Northern Province.
Am afraid that its not going to be plain sailing for the ruling party any more. One thing am happy about is that those who falsely think that a ruling party cannot lose an election have seen what is happening. Thank god the people of Zambia have realized that you cannot continue to be cheated all the time. For me let the best party win. But even after winning they need to realise that they need to deliver while in poer because the people are now vigilant   Â
