Police warn and caution William Banda

File:MMD Lusaka province chairman William Banda

Police have recorded a warn and caution statement from MMD Lusaka Province chairman William Banda in connection with the violence that took place in Chongwe last Saturday.

Lusaka province police commanding officer Mhlakeni Zulu told journalists in Lusaka this afternoon that Mr Banda has been warned and cautioned for proposing political violence contrary to section 91, Sub section 1A and C of the laws of Zambia.

Mr. Zulu has however said the MMD provincial chairman has denied the allegations adding that the police will continue with their investigations on the matter.

He has since reiterated his warning to political cadres against engaging in violence saying the police will not condone any act that has the potential to disturb the country’s peace.

And Mr. Banda who was in the company of his lawyers Sunday Nkonde, Obden Kabwe and Robson Malupenga appealed to Zambians to have confidence in the police service adding that violence should not be supported at all costs.

Mr. Banda’s legal representative Sunday Nkonde said it is unacceptable for the media to malign certain individuals without proof.

Meanwhile, opposition Patriotic Front cadres were seen passing by church road while chanting party slogans when Mr. Banda was being interviewed by the police.

The move angered the MMD provincial leadership who verbally confronted a plain clothed police officer over the same, while a cadre only identified as Tembo started communicating with an unknown person on phone calling for reinforcements of MMD cadres in ten buses to be sent to the police station to deal with the by PF cadres.

He was however stopped by a fellow MMD cadre.

  1. ba willy this maybe a hox by police and the MMD to blind zambian, but i rest assure you it is the beginning of your many days to comes behine bars,

  2. RB will surely win – EIU

The latest Economist Intelligence Unit –EIU- has maintained that President Rupiah Banda will win the September 20, general elections.

The September 2011 issue obtained by ZNBC News , states that although the elections will be closely contested, an election victory for President Banda is most likely outcome.

The EIU Report however notes that some election violence could occur but widespread or prolonged violence is not expected and risks to national stability are low.

  3. The Report also notes that Patriotic Front leader Michael Sata’s nationalistic rhetoric has also raised concern as he would introduce radical policy that can severely derail the economy of Zambia.

The EIU Report says Zambia is not expected to face any external threats over the forecast election period.

Last month’s report also predicted that President Banda and the MMD will win the forthcoming elections based on nationwide support.

    CPD also predicts

Another independent opinion poll on Wednesday this week predicted that President Rupiah Banda will win this year’s general elections with an overall margin of forty one per cent.

  4. He however reveled that the PF has lost considerable ground in its strongholds, including Lusaka.

Dr. Simutanyi cited divisions in the opposition and the collapse of the PF-UPND as reasons for tipping the MMD to win the September 20 polls.

Dr Simutanyi has also told Journalists at a media briefing in Lusaka on Wednesday that the majority of respondents indicated that they believed this year’s general elections will be free and fair.

The Center for Policy Dialogue issued its first opinion poll earlier this year, placing PF leader Michael Sata in first position with thirty one percent, President Banda with twenty nine per cent and Mr. Hichilema with twelve per cent.

  5. Even our Headmaster at my boarding school back in the day used to dish out 10 stinging lashes on your backside come Monday morning in front of a fully packed Assembly Hall for this type of crime, this mug William breaks the law he gets a pat on the back and a handshake only in Zambia.
    Long way to go indeed!!

  6. LT the Lusaka CO is Muchekheni Zulu not that concoction you’ve come up with. Train your reporters to proof read one another’s work. You leave alot of doubts in readers with such calibire of reports Ma distortions ya chilamo. almost lyonse.

  7. Rupiah Banda was one of the gang leaders that eves-dropped on people the UNIP regime considered enemies of the state and he was often at hand to organise their beatings as he did against the revered late Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe at Luburma Market. He led thugs to attack the man simply for resigning from his post as Vice-President to lead an opposition group.

  8. @8 you are correct and that led to the opposition carrying self defence weapons such as bicycle chains. Most were arrested and detained without trial for periods of up to 12 months and though educated were blacklisted to work in Zed parastatal companies. Sad that the cycle is repeating itself. If you are not ruling party supporter, no civil service job……..Yalibipa pa Mwesu bwafya

  9. We did not need to get to this level of violence and for the opposition PF to invoke their own protection mechanisms and forget about police protecting them for the police to slap William banda on the wrist.
When we say that our police is inept, we mean just that..inept, incompetent ++ police stupid.dity at worst

Surely, William banda must have been behind bars today and not be given this silly warn & caution rubbish, due to his naked advocation, support and perpetuation of violence wherever he has been

  10. #8,9. Kapwepwe’s daughter is standing on MMD and she does not submit to your hate theory, how about that?

    • @11 Its a recap from history nothing to do with individual choices. All unlawfully detained were compensated after 20 years of being robbed livelihoods for two generations. Its only fair that the support and reconciliation continues for peace to prevail……..best wishes with your vote

  11. Atleast these are sum of the evils LPM mhsrip left us to deal with. Fisrt this formally deported wanker and then the other unip rapist RBISH all for political expedience. Now we will have to deal firmly with these foreigners or we shall pay a heavy price. These chaps must be eliminated soonest.

  12. # 3, 4, and 5. Satanic. Did you ever go school? If you did you should be able to understand the topics. What is this you are discussing? I don’t see anything about William Banda in your postings. Simple English, yakupita. You are the same guys who find people having a discussion on a certain book or movie, you go your own way you start discussing ifyakumabala or about your red shoes. Come guy, simple comprehension and social etiquette seem to be lacking in your brains. You are so carried away with your cadre stuff such that you are unable to think straight. Come on go drink some water. Are you so lonely that you just have to tell or voice out to someone about your thought on the EIU report? Wrong thread. Kwati nifilya utwaiche tuchita when adults are having a conversation. Grow up.

  13. #11, I think #8 is just trying to remind us of what happened to Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe. And Kapwepwe’s daughter is not Simon Kapwepwe, she is a different unique human being.

  14. It is hard to believe that a cadre can publicly and carelessly call for a Clash with rival cadres within the buildings of the police. People, watch the clip on muvi tv site. It is a shame to police!!!

  15. Zambia Police are a bunch of jokers. They locked up Father Bwalya for three days at Kanfinsa remand prison just for flashing a red card. Yet they here they are just pretending to be doing something even though innocent people were badly beaten on the orders of this dog.

  16. EXACT QUOTE FROM EIU:
    Monthly highlights

The elections on September 20th will be closely contested. The incumbent, Rupiah Banda, is slightly more likely to win the presidential election. The parliamentary vote is unlikely to deliver a clear majority to any one party.

Some election-related violence could occur, but widespread or prolonged violence is not expected and risks to national stability are low.

Whichever party wins, the government is likely to promote macroeconomic stability and scale up investment in infrastructure. However, policy uncertainty would rise in the event of an opposition victory.

    • Thank you. Having read this part of the report, im now a wiser ‘brass monkey’
the MMD caders need not blow their trumpet that RubbishBIN is surely winning.a close call may result into PF or MMD victory.
Simuntanyi is a paid MMD cadre and his POLLS are taikor made to eventury predict MMD to win. Next week Simuntanyi will predict that RBIN will win by 60%!

  17. Betty Mushala may help sort out William Banda who was on wanted list of his late father. Betty is the son of former rebel leader Adamson Mushala, who didn’t like the likes of RB & William Tekere Banda.

  18. Someone calling 10 buses to beat up pf supporters within central police. Shame on police service.

  19. Sad if true, but who said that Mr Sata has different traits, both are from the same mould of “by air” from the bygone UNIP one party state era.

  20. #22 Katie Good you are very right. And the biggest problem is we encourage them by still keeping them in the lime light. So long as we Zambians can not start voting for fresh progressive people, people like William Banda and Sata become valuable political assets. Today I can tell you if William Banda joined PF Sata would be the happiest person. William Banda is a man who connects and takes advantage of the grassroots illerate. Same ploy like Micheal Sata. So those who think the police will go any further with this case forget. RB can never sacrifice him else he will loose votes. Maybe after elections not now.

  21. Atleast he showed that he has brains by reporting to the Police Officers. Pipo who respect other peoples commands are better than bachimbwi munshololwa

  22. How I wish that reinforcement had come. Not even a court judge could have beed relevant, let alone prison cells!, for Willy and his *********************!!!!

  23. “. . . Mr. Banda has been warned and cautioned for proposing violence contrary to section 91, subsection 1A and C of the laws of Zambia . . . ” Ba LT Zambia has more than 200 Chapters of the Laws, under which Chapter has William been charged? Please be clear on this one because no one can be charged under a fictious law.

  24. #29 Katoloshi,
Since when did ba LT become Zambia Police??
Ba LT are just reporting what happened, that is also.
They are not even lawyers to interpret the law for you.

  25. VERY UNFORTUNATE TO HAVE PIPO LIKE W. BANDA GLUED TO POLITICS, YOU ARE TOO OLD FOR THIS, MAN, YOUR TIME IS NEAR THE VIOLENCE YOU ENJOY HAS INJURED MANY ZAMBIANS BUT LET ME TELL YOU THAT SOONER THAN LATTER YOUR HARSH REWARDS ARE CLOSER TO YOU. :(

  26. @ 30 Fine! I’m live to the fact that ba LT are not Zambia Police but information disseminators. Being disseminators of information, ba LT like any other media house have to be clear in their reporting. If the source of information is not clear, reporters have a duty to seek clarification by asking follow-up questions.eporting. If the source of information is not clear, reporters have a duty to seek clarification by asking follow-up questions.

    • No experience in investigative journalism. And no ne seems to care…..As long as they are paid up memembers of their field association…….

    • You are absolutely right Nakabalika. The worst thing is that some members of public tend to take whatever is published as absolute truth – there are very few people who seriously read and analyse published articles.

  27. Imangeni mbala iyo, ya tivuta!! How I wish they could also do the same with the chap who unleashed panga brandishing militia in Lusaka’s Chawama township in 2000/2001! He is on the loose…very dangeruos man to the safety of the country.

  28. you dandahead haters william is squeaky clean. he is only guilty in the post newspaper and to gullible fools who think that hateful lying newspaper is from God! that newspaper is written by satan himself by the hands of luciferian fred mmembe whose maxim is call your opponent what you exactly are. the other of his devilish maxim is all is allowed and nothing is evil! he shares these maxims with his superrior in masonry michael sata.

  29. Pls leave Banda alone he is not the first one, he is a cadre thts their nature, how about the Pf general thuggery secretary Kawimbe with his, ”hit back n hit back hard”. And Sata himself with his panga militias in chawama 2000/2001…

  30. I do not understand where William Banda gets his authority to do the r.u.b.i.s.h he does. He also confessed that him and RB are at the centre of all the violence that took place in Chongwe, ne!
