Lusaka Lawyer Sakwiba Sikota has questioned why MMD Lusaka Province Chairman William Banda has not yet been tried in the courts of law after spending days in police custody.
Mr. Sikota said that  the Patriotic Front government should live to its word that it will abide by the rule of law.
In an interview with QFM, Mr. Sikota said that  Mr. Banda deserves fair justice regardless of the crimes he could have committed.
He has since appealed to the Law Association of Zambia to come to the aid of the MMD Lusaka Province Chairman, suspected to be the master mind of political violence during the MMD’s reign which came to an end last week.
The MMD Lusaka province chairperson was yesterday transferred to Lusaka central police from Chipata were he was apprehended allegedly trying to flee the country for Malawi.
Lusaka division commanding officer Mhlakeni Zulu confirmed the development to QFM on Tuesday.
Mr. Banda was apprehended by Patriotic Front cadres in Chipata and later handed over to police.

I can answer that: well under CAP fimo fimo, William Banda could have been killed by now for sure. So for his own safety the police are keeping him. Even trial dates could not be set as soon as “now” because tempers are still high. So, am I ok to join you lairs or sorry, Lawyers?

I think it is illegal to detain somebody in Zambia without trial. Having said that ..the big question is why has MMD lawyers stepped forward to bail out their own or at least take the government to court for detaining somebody without trial than trying to gain political mileage on this issue. Â Go to courts if you think the law is being broken than rush to newspapers and radio stations.
Obviously this is a hot issue for the Police. All police officers are scared to let Banda go because they will be fired that is why in Chipata they passed the buck to people in Lusaka, and in Lusaka Kabonde is desperately trying to cling to his job. Please Saki what days of detention are you talking about?Tekere was brought to Lusaka yesterday Tuesday the 27th.He has a pending complaint before Central Police in Lusaka and he was found on his way to Malawi.Clearly he did not intend to make himself available to police in Lusaka.As you should know police bond is not a matter of right but is at the discretion of the police and there is nothing wrong in denying a former fugitive.With pipo who reason like this surrounding him no wonder RB lost.

The police need to charge William Banda with a crime then they can keep him as he awaits trial! Its seems the Zambians are unanimous in their indictment on William Banda. All the more reason why it should not take the police this long to come up with charges or are they awaiting instructions from the ruling party for appropriate charges. Justice at least on the official level should be for everyone no matter their reputation becuase if the police can get away with the reputation of William Banda outside of the rules of justice then they will do it for others. My BIG question is why are the police arresting William Bwanda or watever u call him now after WE as PF won the elections and not at the time he committed those offenses?
