Sata surprises Church goers

File: President Michael Sata greets children at St Ignatius Catholic Church

PRESIDENT Michael Sata yesterday surprised parishioners at Saint Ignatius Parish in Lusaka when he arrived with about four bodyguards and only two motor vehicles following his official car.

Mr Sata took a seat in the midst of parishioners and mingled with Church goers before the service started without heavy protection.

“He is really a simple president. Where do you find a Head of State who can just walk and sit right in the middle where ordinary people are?

“We were looking for vehicles when he came, only to see one small car in front and another one behind,” said a congregant, Lisa Mubita.

She said President Sata was driven into the Church like an ordinary citizen and walked to a pew in the middle of the Church.

When he arrived, he took time greeting his neighbours before he sat to follow the service that was presided over by Father Charles Chilinda.

Father Chilinda preached about love and care during the service that started at 08:00 hours.

“The things we do all the time must make people happy. We must be thankful for what we are and love must unite us,” he said.

  1. Thats the President for Zambia …no unneceesary expenditure when you can do without the long convoy, Zambia is a peaceful nation anyway and we dont expect anyone to harm him….thumbs up Mr. president

  2. Please, please, Mr President do not repeat the mistakes the MMD made during its early days in power of reducing the protection around those in power. We should not forget that reduced road protection may have been a major factor in the road accident in which the then VP(LPM) was involved.

  3. The President is a humble man. He has risen above obstacles to lead this great country. lt us respect him and support him to Move Zambia forward.

  4. The President is a humble man. He has risen above obstacles to lead this great country. let us respect him and support him to Move Zambia forward.

  5. HE Sata’s is setting examples of how to behave in these hard times. The late King Olav of Norway was popularly known as the People’s king.  During the oil crises of 1973 the King used public transport to reach his favourite skitrack. The people’s president aka “King Cobra” has shown humility. We’ll soon start calling him the people’s president to replace “King Cobra”. Viva People’s President.

  6. Too much security detail is a sign that the President knows he has made too may nemies and its old fashioned. We were gettig irritatd by RB and George Kunda, espcially those who drive along Church Road. They chose to move whe traffic was at the peak and bring everyone to a stand still!!!

We need to ivest in more intelligent way or providing security, indeed he is still a parichioner needs to mix with everyone, lest people start cheating him and yet people are complaining!!!

  7. save the tax paxpayers money and empower zambians…Christ was a leader and he lived a simple life…thanks for leading by example Mr President…Riches are for the world but the Soul belongs to Him…Dont lose your soul because of these worldly possessions…BIG UPS MAN…

  8. thats my president, he has nothing to fear, most of the Zambians are his body guards. let those who think sh*********t about SATA to stop immediately, Sata is a Loving man

  9. Wait he fails to deliver on his promises, he will be running away from the same people. Was Sata told that in modern politics people have no patience?

  10. @#1 Kito and @#10 Mulipa. Can`t agree with you more! We are a peaceful country and yes people love him. There is no need having 10 cars in a convoy escorting Mr Kunda to church.

He has no enemies so why worry? And,why would one want to harm him any way? Unless you are one of the people who are being investigated.

Well done Mr President. Again the people`s man scores a 100%!

Someone from the previous regime tell us how much he has saved the nation please!

  11. He still needs protection…there are crazy people out there…he is a man who is still in touch with local people…i hope it remains so…

  12. NICE START, HOWEVER MIND THE ENEMIES OF THE STATE, GEOGE KUNDA HOW IS ALSO CATHOLIC, USED TO OVER DO IT, 14 SECURITY MEN AROUND HIM IN CHURCH, EXCLUDING THE ONES OUTSIDE GAURDING THE FOUR VEHICLES.

  13. He is the right man for Zambia, let us all unity behind this man and make ago at getting our country on the recovery path. Good day to all

  14. That’s the President of all Zambians. The state police have a duty to secure the President and am they did their home-work.

  15. poor, zambians easy to be fed by propaganda.he can move like that because he knows he can`t face an hostile crowd at this momment.let hunger prevail in your homes and see if you are going to be seeing him in public again.cheap reasoning

  16. Sata is an action man not a joker. He wants to be part of the ordinary community.I hope he can also cut the number of vehicles and the amount of talk time given to his ministers.

  17. God i thank you for your son Micheal Chilufya Sata. Let him depend on Ps 91. Our Mighty God will protect him. We would be glad other churches can be visited regardless of the size and location. GOD IS WITH YOU

  18. I am impressed by such simplicity. It is important for the avarage Zambians to know that their president is one of them, not someone elevated in a high society over them. May God bless President Sata with more wisdom to lead our nation.

  19. Sata knows God is the protector of our lives and no need to worry. Bodyguards can scamper when things get tough but God wont let any little party of your body to harmed.

  20. Oh Dear feel sorry for these gullible Zambians. This is nothing but smoke and mirrors. He was still under protection by the plain clothes security detail he went with! Disgusting levels of psychophancy and id.iocy !

  21. Nice one Dr. Malama is now new Inspector General of Police with vice Stella Libongani. Nice work Mr President, let the sleeping dogs lie whilst you are working.

  22. Kuli Ba Mushota

Muli shani mayo wandi? I miss your writings. Can you post something please. Insala yalapwa ifye kuno ku Zambia ba Sata baleteka

    Abalume benu

Ba Phiri Isaac- uwa ku Chipata

  23. That is what we expect from a Head of State.Keep it up Mr President.More than that we need the new constitution within the remaining 80 days so that the President’s powers can be reduced. But why did Sata raise his hand in church anyway?

  24. that’s great . he is a human beign as well he needs to fellowship with his fellows………………..that great mr president

  25. thanks mr president…kip it simple ..go the american way were pipo cant notice your security detail..its less traffic,,less commotion n yet very much protected by the pipo…

  26. Now PF supporters are reading and believing evrything the Times of Zambia is telling them. There is nothing new here FTJ used to do the same they called it driving “incognito” then. Its just smoke and mirrors all you need is a good number of undercover staff and vehicles

  27. Thats the President for the people not RB, humble, down to earth and a believer of the word of God. big up Mr. President!

  28. He has nothing to fear he is still our beloved president.I wont be surprised to hear that he went to church with a bicycle just like what the Norwegian prime minister does at times.

  29. you people all presidents do that once in a while,CHILUBA used to drive around town in a simple car with one car behind.villagers utulo.

  30. If majority of pipo voted for you why should u fear them. Bravo Ba Sata. No body guide can protect you more than the protection you get from the Lord Jesus Christ

  31. CHAMA CHAKOMBOKA PROMISED TO GET RID OF ALL THOSE VEHICLES & RIDE A BICYCLE IF VOTED INTO STATE HOUSE. HE WAS BETTER THAN SATA

  32. Mr MCS has nothing to fear because he was genuinely and overwhelmingly elected for hence no time to fight for legitimancy. Keep it up Mr President,we are with you all way.

  33. While im so happy to see our beloved President go to church in simplicity (see #29),im not amused with his habit of arguing with the Priest.THAT’S PRIDE AND GOD HATES THE PROUD.He did the same at Daffy’s funeral. Why raise your hand when the man of God is preaching?Bad manners Mr President.Respect men of God even if you dont agree with them. Also stop the habit of walking with hands in your pockets. It makes you look like a kalazo. You are not God,but mortal man.Be WISE

  34. Hope he can keep this up. Ian Khama does walkabout with unseen security detail visiting townships, villages, etc A man of the people should be able to do that with minimum security detail.

  35. Please President Sata, we the Zambians wants you to be protected according to the laws of Zambia and that is you moving with the protection according to the way the combined Zambian security/intelligence have arranged and not populist and careless movements like the one you did on Sunday.

    This is just carelessness!

There are a lot of SYMPATHISERS of the former President Banda and MMD leaders who want to see you fail because they are afraid of being PROSECUTED of their corruption.

The Director General of Zambia Intelligence Service should never allow this SECURITY breach to occur again! President Sata need more security now than at any time.

Africa has lost Popular leaders (like Thoma Sankara) because of security breaches of leaders trusting their own EGO

  36. #43 Kapila G,

Iwe ka Kapila G, this is not humbleness!!! This is CARELESSNESS!!!!!!! President Sata need more security now than at any time!! George Kunda is afraid of being prosecuted because of his corruption, and you KA Kapila G you Moron CHIMPANZEE!!!!

  37. You all have short memories. Do you remember how Levy Mwanawasa was almost killed in a road accident on the way to the airport? Because of no security. They later put the blame on one Godfrey Miyanda who was then 3rd in command serving as minister of without portfolio.

  38. To the man of God,Brother Chilinda why preach Reconciliation after seeing the President at your church?Did you really plan for that sermon,or you also got so excited when you saw him that you lost direction? What sermon did you plan for your congregation?I’m sure you embarranced our President and contributed to his reaction.Who told you that Sata and RB are enemies who should be reconciled? If RB has got the case to answer, then its against all Zambians. You got it wrong and you are so lucky the Cobra didnt spit in your face.I dont think he’ll ever set foot in your church again. You spoiled his day and made him behave like a lunatic.I hope you are not MMD, man of God.Or you wanted to make a name for yourself.A noun.Sorry, be carefully next time when you get such a big chance.

  39. As a member of St.Ignatius Church, I know for a fact that Mr. Sata has been a consistent church goer for many years and almost always attends the early morning bemba mass there. I think he would like to continue attending mass and does not want to alienate the regular church goers with overwhelming security detail. When we are in the house of God, no one is above the other and personally for me, its quite humbling that he refuses to accept preferential treatment in this matter. Don’t know how things will pan out in the future but hey….

  40. let state security do its jod, the president needs alot of security….people may be smilling at him when they mean something else….please OP guys do your thing…
