The Lusaka City Council has taken over the operations of Kulima Tower bus station in Lusaka.

Council Public Relations Officer Henry Kapata says the move is in line with the provisions of the Bus Stations and Markets Act of the Laws of Zambia.

Mr. Kapata says political party cadres smoothly handed over operations to the local authority this morning.

He told ZNBC News Monday morning that plain clothed police officers and council police officers have been deployed to monitor the situation at the station.

Last week Local Government, Housing Early Education and Environmental Protection Minister professor Nkandu Luo directed councils to take over operations of Bus stations and markets.

  1. wow this is better. i hope the councils show high levels of professionalism. we expect clean markets, clean toilets etc

  2. Thank you President Sata. You are slowly bringing back sanity and order to our beloved nation. MMD ruled Kulima Tower with impunity for 20 years. At least the council can now start collecting revenue, which could be used to clean up Lusaka. This is a great start.

  3. Good and Thanks. Things are moving. NFC K 2M minimum wage!
MCS, you may have no degree but your reasoning is better than that fellow with an MBA and other chain of paper qualifications.

    • On this blog, I have kept arguing that there is no positive correlation between the level of education and the performance of individuals working in various organisations. In fact, there could be a negative correlation in that see the best thieves we have had are educated; the best lairs we have had, are educated. Because of being educated, they always felt they are the ones to drive better cars, to eat at Manda hill, to dress this or that, and anione anione or bling bling lifestyles when the masses were starving to death. What a country. I always ask myself, if with all these degrees i have acquired I still cannot facilitate a better life for the poor person who sacrificed his or her tax for my education, what is it worth anyway? Let bakaponya bateke.

  4. Tubombeko ba MMD. Thankx PF. Dora Sisilia was saying its nonsence by saying man of action. She failed to even think of the wife of the president who is a teacher to protect her future. Your bums madam shall be lost in event of time. MMD tell us, are you not happy?

  5. Brilliant news PF. There is hope… one has a feeling Lusaka will no longer be one of the dirtiest capitals in the Southern region.

  6. Bye Bye MMD. Thank God that Sanity is finally getting back to Zambia. What a wasted 20yrs!! Imwe,… MMD is full of crooks. That was day light robbery. Denying councils revenue which is constitutional. SO, MMD was breaking the law!!!

  7. Yes work on all kaponyas to behave in towns lelo ni lelo ng’wang’wazi. You thought you will rule better now. No car washes, bus stations, vending in corridors and no noise at all. ViVa GVT.

  8. #Okey. Just admit allowing the council to be in control of markets and bus stops should have been done by MMD years ago. Letting bus stops and markets become politically affiliated was extremely unprofessional.

  9. Why plain clothed police officers? buy them council police uniform, so we know who is a genuine officer or not mefinangwa mwe.

  10. The last i checked there was no bus station at Kulima tower but a large car park with hundreds of minibuses painted blue ( MMD colors introduced by Nkandu Luo, Yes the same Nkandu Luo remember her ?). Where is the bus station?

  11. #17, plain clothes ‘police’, dont you remember them? Does the name William banda ring a bell?. Mr Sata introduced those call boys to the station when he was Lusaka governor, why are you getting fooled now? Are you old enough to remeber his minions such as Nakawala, Scorpion kadobi and now Judge Ngoma?

  12. This is a good move.I hope such action does not just cover bus terminals but extended to all markets across the country. This will definately restore sanity and create such a source of much needed revenue for the councils. It will though, be interesting to see how ba kaponya who happened to have been Sata`s core electorate will react to this kind of progressive move. They have been used to syphoning such funds for a long time.

  13. #22 Well, moving forward at least they have handed over the responsibility of the markets and bus stops to the council this time. It is a fact that there will have to be more accountability and transparency as these places will be run by councillers who are elected officials. I think it is important to be objective by first observing if there is an improvement in the way these places are handled. It is not right to make assumptions and criticize policies that are showing order and good will to the people.

  14. YES, let “Kaponyas” show all you MMD losers govt should work!!! Three weeks in and PF is doing things MMD couldn’t do in 20 years. What a breath of fresh air!!! Whether this kind of doing the people’s business from our govt will continue for the next five uyears is another matter, but at least for now, PF has shown us what is possioble and the difference political leaders can make in the lives of ordinary citicizens. Next, build enough markets where people can trade in safety to feed their families. SO FAR SO GOOD at least!!!!!!!!

  15. Good move, give credit where it is due. Just worried about the inconvenient truth. Smell some conflict of interest as ‘someone’ who put you in power needs to continue doing his business there. Unless he was mislead on the voting. That’s the irony…

  16. Zambia youth service will start soon for kaponyas and other school levels like it is in Botwana and Tanzania.Council should employ more accountants to run this bus stops and this chaps at the council accounts section. We need ACC and DEC at this stations.OP SHOULD BE HOME GARD FOR THE PEOPLE.

  17. Aleni bane, shout loud fom kulima tower station.pabwwaatooooo!!!!!
well done mr president.next move to kitwe local stations and KMB

  18. Thanx to the PF Gnvt, Please revisit ZESCO salaries so that we starting paying low bills and introduce prepaid meters in the country.

  19. # 35, That is not good language please, if you have nothing to write why not just sleep instead of what you are posting. Let us be progressive for now,

  20. I agree with # 18 Mashindu. Deploying plain cloth officers may grant crooks impersonating officers. Think of a better approach. They will pretend that they are officers and in the process harrass innocent people and dent the name of the police service.

  21. Very practical indeed. Can u also deal with the passport office, tender board and make surecorrupt element are rooted out
