Luo to clean up Bus stations

Share

Local government, Housing, Early Education and Environmental Protection Minister Professor Nkandu Luo says that her ministry will ensure that sanitary is prioritized in bus stations country wide.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS shortly after she toured the uncompleted Mongu bus terminus in Mongu, Professor Luo said there is need for bus stations to have good and clean sanitary conditions as way to prevent health hazards.

Pro. Luo says the PF government through the local authority will pick up where the previous leadership left and complete the bus terminus.

She pointed out that once the terminus is completed it will provide better services and facilities to the people especially those who use public transport.

Earlier during her curtesy call on the Provincial Minister Nathaniel Mubikwanu, Provincial Permanent Secretary Seth Muleya said the Minister’s visit to Western Province and Mongu in particular will build confidence among council workers.

Mr. Muleya said the Minister has come at the right time when workers are settling down and waiting to implement policies of the new government.

Professor Nkandu Luo is in Mongu, Western Province to meet the Council Union Official and Council Management.

  1. Not just cleaning, improve stations like Lusaka inter-city to higher standards. This station is not fit for international travel & Livingstone, border city & tourist capital doesn’t even have an inter-city bus station. There is work mama.

  2. Yes not just cleaning, but a system in place. A lot of travellers are always inconvienced at these bus stations. There is no order and respect for travelling public. I believe Luo has travelled world wide and understands what I mean. I only hope she will make a difference.

  3. There is surely a lot of work to be done because the last time I was in Zambia, the toilet at Inter City Bus terminal did not have proper flashing facilities. This was apart from the fact there was a strong stench of urine near the toilet. Do we need a whole minister to sort out such simple and straight forward issues? I bet there is a management team there that would not even use such pathetic facilities. I rest my case.

  4. Its not just about one off cleaning and its about having a team in place at these locations ie. a professional Station/ Market Manager and Deputy with their team of cleaners and security to maintain high standards. They collect revenue and attend to any disputes, maintenance works… that arise provided they are paid competitive pay packages. This is how Markets and Stations are run in the UK like “a stand alone” subsidiary company of the City Council everyone is accountable if there is a problem call the Station Manager.

  5. Last time I used inter city I got sick when I used their dirty toilets. Can you also bring order to ghost passegers ba Professor please. Its good you are travelling. before u check unfinished structures also visit those which are finished with poor sanitation.

I believe you gona do a good job. God bless you prof

  6. It’s good to see ministers working. District councils should be seen to be working too. Surely the minister should not concern herself with basic things like toilets. If councils cant manage toilets, how much more bigger issues?

  7. It is time to do away with some of the nonsensical formalities in our government and just get to work! Stop insensately thanking ministers for visiting and telling us what it means. We dont care. Just get to work and start cleaning up!

  8. It has to take the whole minister to supervise or visit bus stations because people are given jobs and do not perform to expectations, a sense of responsibility must be inculcated in each and every job holder and that when found not performing they should be fired! While people chase for jobs and are employed they ought to exhibit professionalism in what they have to do and do it with pride understanding that whatever they do in their job is contributing to the larger picture of the country’s well being! Consider street sweepers, office and public convenience cleaners, laborers and the like as important as a company director or manager for each one is important for what they do and demand respect. Generally the public need to treat with respect and dignity all levels of services

  9. The so called Intercity Bus station is a big eyesore with a lot of human sh1t all over, especially on the side of the railway station. No wonder cholera is a big problem in Zambia. The minister has work cut out for her. To succeed she should not brook any excuses from the city or town officials.

  10. Ya, let the Kaponyas feel you the way the felt your weight back then when you were transport minister when you corruptly gave a bus paint contract to your brother in law. They deserve to be cleaned, because right now they think the own this country.

  11. Luo, do some work before talking too much. I just don’t know how you will work councils with early childhood education

  12. good move ba mama to start with mongu. Lusaka alone has good but not standard morden terminus(intercity, lumumba and now kulima tower) but what about chipata mansa kasama livingstone some of which service international routes. these places just have a bare dusty ground old roofless walls for a station. i wonder if at all revenue is collect by local authorities in these places

  13. ba LT, do you guys ever use spell check? check your spelling of courtesy and even the name MUBUKWANU has been misspelt. Some of the stories you put here have very little content or relevance. Im not here to give you stick, i just would like to see more complete articles for example the piece on the workers that were locked in a garage was very shoddily done with not enough content. You need better reporting and more complete stories. most of us rely on news from you. Meanwhile i think its great to see the new government actively getting involved in moving their agenda ahead. we are all watching the clock. These hirings and firings must amount to something other than just retribution. Dr Luo lets see some action on these bus stations.

  14. LOL @ 17 OKEY: her first trip ABROAD,hehehe. you are one funny guy! KWA HAYE! Thats what i love about this blog, the Zambian humour is unrivalled. I miss all you brothers and sisters. There is no greater feeling, no deeper brotherly love than what we have as Zambians. Nkandu Luo or no Nkandu Luo.

  15. Madam Luo may not make it. She needs to address serious issues in the Ministry and fire some of those old directors. They have overstayed.
