Health authorities worried at high default rate of Anti Retroviral Therapy (ART)

Health authorities in Kapiri Mposhi district are worried that there is high default rate of Anti Retroviral Therapy (ART) amongst people living with HIV/AIDS in the area.

District ART coordinator, Oscar Mwenda says many people put on ART through normal channels were defaulting the treatment for unknown reasons.

Mr. Mwenda says the defaulting rate in the area is posing a great threat and contradiction to the fight against the HIV/AIDS pandemic.

ZANIS reports that he revealed this during a Support Group indaba organized by Development Aid from People to People (DAPP), Practical Action and the Network for People Living with HIV/AIDS (NZP+) in Kapiri Mposhi on Saturday.

And Central Province Practical Action, Programs Officer, Alex Nyakatsapa says support groups should retain their relevance by ensuring that they stick to their terms of reference which aim at bridging the gap in health service provision.

The Indaba is an initiative aimed at strengthening the coordination of Support Groups and helps them conform to prescribed requirements of operations.

  1. EDUCATION, EDUCATION, and MORE EDUCATION IS NEEDED. PEOPLE NEED TO BE TOLD THAT THE VIRUS DEVELOPS IMMUNITY TO THE ARV DRUGS WHEN THE THERAPY IS ERRATIC, OR SUSPENDED….thus leaving the sufferers with few therapy options!!!!

  2. Mr.Mwenda seem to be too educated for the ordinary people in Central Province,He is saying the people are defaulting. Is it a Loan?Educate the people with Simplicity.

  3. This article is one of the emptiest shallow writing i have ever seen. defaulter rate is high, how high give figures if people who know something are to take you seriously. this is what happens when a country produces more social workers than technical experts. shame, shame the DACA is a social worker not a scientist shame indeed

  4. I’ve read several good stuff here. Certainly worth bookmarking for revisiting. I surprise how so much effort you put to create the sort of wonderful informative website.
