The MMD has suspended former Labour Minister Austin Liato from the Party. MMD National Secretary Richard Kachingwe says Mr. Liato has also been suspended as party chairman for labour.
His suspension comes in the wake of the recent discovery of 2.1 billion kwacha at his home by the investigative wing.
Maj. Kachingwe says the party and its entire membership has learnt with great shock the discovery of the money at Mr. Liato’s house.
He says the party at the moment has no better details than what has been provided to the press by the investigative wings.
Maj. Kachingwe congratulated the investigative wing for the discovery .
He says the party wishes to distance itself from the same in order to give Mr. Liato time to deal with a personal matter.

Why this political decision? Why should Liato be suspended when the whole nature of the discovery has NOT even been concluded? Who are they trying to blindfold?
This is the money he and Alexis Luhila were storing to use for breaking Kaoma from Western Province and Namwala from Southern Provin to com upwith their evil Nkoyastan right in the heart of Zambia. He must be tortured to reveal where this money came from and for what purpose he was keeping it, in the ground?
Dziko, are you Nkoya or what? What nature of the discovery are you talking about you lumpen, don’t you know that keeping such a collosal amount of money out of circulation violates laws of any land? This is economic surbotage of the worst order, and ordour, and any decent party, a a little decency is all it takes, would actually expel such a f’o’o’l from their rank and file. And from what I can see, Liato has overtaken Dora and the first Bwezani MP destined to hit Chimbokaila.

Almost all the former ministers have such amounts of money hidden somewhere somehow. Thats why William Banda had cash in millions of kwachas as well. Let the PF government change the bank notes, you will see how the former Rupiah Circle Boys will be coming with billions to change at BOZ.

Yes, I was also going to suggest the same that we should change the Zambian currency, though an expensive ventre to undertake at this point in time. We should NOT give these thieves chance and space to exchange these stolen Kwachas into foreign currency, we should act fast. I am pretty certain King Cobra and his team are already contemplating this undertaking, some body somewhere (co-operating partiners) will come to our rescure and fund this excercise. MMD are very amazing and i think the secretary should keep quiet because they realy rushed in doing the chasing.Let them give a chance to Liato to explain himself and i think thats why we have the courts of law.Now is people are going to be judged before they explain themselves then why have the judiciary and if pronouncements are going to be brought before even a person is proven guilty
while changing the notes would be the best of options save for the fact that it would look like its targeting a few individuals, I have always felt we this government should also work out a strategy to improve the strength of the kwacha and remove from circulation such big notes as ZMK50pin, ZMKK20pin, ZMK10pin and ZMK5pin. Let the highest note be ZMK1pin.

I personally think this is a good move by the MMD. Whether the money was illegally gotten or not should be left to the wings investigating this issue. The reason I think MMD have acted in this manner is based on the fact that the maney was burried in the earth (Not kept in a bank account) which in my opinion establishes a prima facie case against Austin. This guy’s HOLDING of such a an amount is tantamount to Economic Sabotage. The sad truth is that he is not the only one doing this. Indians, Lebanese, Chinese and alot more Govt officials both former and current, are all in the same bracket.

We complained a lot when he announced 419pin minimum wage early this year and he said this was unfortnate when he even knew that he had 2’100’000’000 kwacha to burry which had no use to him. Interesting state of affairs. As for currency change, it could solve some immediate problems in the interim, but seeing as it has been tried over and over I would suggest we consider a new strategy. Someone talked about a whistle- blower protection programme? I am sure we will net a lot more people in this category if this were implemented. After that, we can perhaps then introduce the currency change. Lets complement it with a new strategy other than the expensive, tried and tested one that worked only for the very short-term…
Iam also with a verw to change the bank notes , thougt an expensive, Govt should come up with limit of amount one can exchange which is not the bank account and also from now on, if possible monday 28th November govt put up good foreign currency exchange measures from kwacha to any foreign currency and big deposit into account must be declared with source audited. GOOD MOVE MMD: Like any other organisation not everyone in MMD is rotten, so the party must act in this way if it is to renew its relationship with Zambians, which it enjoyed when first trusted to take over from UNIP. I think the idea for MMD is to isolate personal from party problems, so that it is not seen to be condoning the mischief of those that earned it a bad name and thus caused it to lose.

This is absolutely premature. There’s a thousand possibilities in this case. Nothing has been established and I can not understand what facts were used to suspend the man. He has not even written to explain himself. If he’s proved wrong I will be supportive of disciplinary action. Until then he remains innocent until he fails to prove his innocence.
Maybe it’s time i ditched zamseed and start planting money this farming season then i can be assured of 3 meals a day the entire 2012
