PF councilor blast HRC for siding with William Banda over the alleged unlawful assembly

A PF councilor is disappointed with remarks attributed to the Human Rights Commission over the warn and caution statement recorded from Lusaka Province MMD Chairperson William Banda.

Emmanuel Chanda of Libala Ward 7 says the statement by the Human Rights Commission is unfortunate.

Mr Chanda says there is nothing wrong with police questioning Mr Banda over the unlawful assembly he held with about 20 MMD members at a named eating place in Woodlands, without a police permit.

He told ZNBC in an interview that the police were merely doing their job.

On Thursday, HRC Spokesperson Samuel Kasankha said in a statement that people are not obligated by any law to seek permits or to even notify police about meetings which involve small gatherings.

Mr Kasankha said notification of police is a formality, unless participants become uncontrollable and therefore pose a security risk.

  1. Under normal circumstances William Banda couldn’t even be head in this country. Ba Swine ba HRC when mmd was traumitizing people you were mute. Instead of promoting legality you promote illegality that most of Zambians were accustomed to . Useless brains! Hypocrites! Well done Police!

  2. Our leaders have completely lost it..its now dissappointing that the hope i had in PF to restore the rule of law will no longer become reality. They are no different from the same MMD thugs that controled the affairs of this country like family business..When are we going to learn and change?? or atleast try to behave like a normal country..speechless and rather dissppointing indeed..

  3. Ignorant Councillor fimo fimo, what does he know about law and human rights compared to HRC?
Same to you #2 fimo fimo osmuka, zip it up!

  4. The councillor expresses his ignorance, what a disgraced man he is. Why not keep quite when there is nothing to talk about.

  5. The law is there for every one, please who can include in the constitution to have the PUBLIC ORDER ACT BE REMOVED SO THAT EVERY ONE CAN BE FREE TO DO WHAT HE/SHE WANT as part of freedom of expression some of us we are tired of these issues

  6. HRC was very quiet when MMD was committing atrocities. Where was Kasanka then? I would like to hear explain why he was so deafeningly quiet throughout that time including when William Banda was terrorising villagers in Chongwe. Wrongdoing and human rights abuses should be condemned regardless of who is in power. Because of the way HRC commission behaved during last 3 years of MMD rule, I have absolutely no respect for it. It has joined the long list of discredited organizations and people.

  7. The councillor has only exposed his total ignorance about our law. . This is not a police state, for goodness sake, this is a democracy. Only in police states do you find policemen arresting people anyhow. What the police are currently doing is pure witch-hunting, just to please the Cobra that they are doing something. Law does not discriminate against anybody. Is this ignorant councillor so dull that the wave of arrests Zambia has experienced since Sata came into power involves MMD political leaders? He cant tell us that all PF leaders are angels.

  8. That’s calibre and quality of leadership u have in PF ma labishi , Iam chocked now I can’t wait to see these thugs out of government

  9. The police has lost its autonomy under this leadership ba Chanda. They are always waiting for orders from the highest office. I can bet on the IG to be fired looking at the way things are unfolding. All Zambians despite their political affiliations have rights, William Banda ba Chanda has got rights as well. An eye for an eye won’t bring us more money in our pockets. Let us uphold the principles of democracy at all times. It can be painful sometimes but this the rule of the game. Merry Xmas to you all. Yes.

  10. The HRC is a discredited and misfocussed lot. This is the same organisation, which during the January Barotse disturbances, elected to side with police against the Barotse, claiming that the ‘lozis’ were threatening other tribes in fliers. They either failed to investigate, or just ignored the true authors of the fliers. Discredited lot!

  11. @ 12 Wasaye remind them. enough was enough thats why the former regime had to go. Give our new government chance, just campaign hard you also might form government maybe in 2031 if it was meant to be so, for now your hatred is normal, I mean not all of you should see the things same way otherwise it would be a boring world, so continue criticising meanwhile its PF gvnt God has allowed to be in power for now, God bless Zambia.

  12. This dim wit of a councillor should know that even a riff ruff like William Banda has human rights.

  13. For people that do not know, Kasankah is a MMD. I know him very well from the time he worked for UNZA. So is Mrs Kasonde Yangailo. They should be replaced with professionals.

  14. Fantastic web site. Lots of useful info here. I am sending it to some pals ans also sharing in delicious. And certainly, thanks in your sweat!

  15. You actually make it appear really easy with your presentation however I find this topic to be really one thing which I think I’d by no means understand. It seems too complicated and very huge for me. I’m looking forward to your subsequent post, I will try to get the grasp of it!

  16. I don’t even know how I stopped up here, however I believed this publish used to be great. I do not recognise who you are but definitely you are going to a well-known blogger should you are not already. Cheers!
