PRESIDENT Sata has relieved Secretary to Cabinet Joshua Kanganja of his duties following the expiry of his contract on November 30. Mr Sata commended Dr Kanganja for his valuable service to the nation during the time he served as Secretary to Cabinet.
In a letter dated December 20, 2011, President Sata told Dr Kanganja that should need arise, the State will call on him for his services. And Dr Kanganja confirmed the expiry of his contract and said he leaves the public service a happy man.
“I did my part to the best of my ability. I believe everything I did was for the good of the country,” Dr Kanganja said. He said in an interview yesterday that he is one of the privileged Zambians to have served under all four republican presidents.
Dr Kanganja said he has served the public service since he left university. He has written to President Sata to thank him for the opportunity to serve under his administration.
Dr Kanganja first served under First Republican President Kenneth Kaunda as permanent secretary and was appointed High Court judge in 1989, a position he declined.
He also served under President Frederick Chiluba as permanent secretary at the Public Service Management Division before he took over as Secretary to Cabinet from Mr Lesley Mbula in 2004.
Dr Kanganja said he served a big team and added that “not everyone is a Saint’. He said he received a lot of support from the public service and unions during his time as Secretary to Cabinet.
Dr Kanganja said the public service has a lot of experienced people he has left behind who will continue where he has left off.
“There are a lot of experienced civil servants who I believe will carry on from where I have left. I believe the public service has a good future,” he said.

“…….he is one of the privileged Zambians to have served under all four republican presidents”.I thought it should be fine.New PF reporters are really quarter-baked.How can the work for reputable firms like Reuters,Bloomberg if fail to do basic proofreading? Maybe under Sata, the Dr was just idle and thus does not count.
Piece of advice “Always remember to remove the speck in your own eyes before you can take out the log out of other people’s eyes.” I mean learn to proof read what you have written yourself, before you ask others to do so. I know you have identified the spelling error as the only mistake you have made in your statement, but mwana if you had to critically look at what you have written, you will realise that you have made loads of mistakes and you don’t make sense at all. Are you indeed a Sharp Shooter?
Indeed “fine” instead of five. Mwilaisebanya pabantu tata. Shut it, before we do it for you.
I meant…five and not fine
Firing someone just because he comes from north western province.
Stop playing tribal cards on every incident.
His contract expired you moron
Well, i am not surprised. The President has publicly rapped this man on several occasions without any regard to his years of experience and age. I hope his removal is not about him being a north-westerner. There are a number of highly- qualified people from north- western or even western province who can take up this position. Anyway, lets wait and see.
This is not about tribe, even a bemba, lala, lamba, lenje, tonga, etc can replace him, if he has served since KK then he should be old and needs to be retired
We hope the next appointment will not be a Bemba speaking person or from Northern Province.
The headline is rather misleading. The contract came to an end and what we should have been told is whether Dr Kanganja or the State did not want to renew it. The man has not been relieved or fired. The contract has come to an end period. Like other bloggers have said lets wait and see the replacement. My money is on a Bemba or Easterner.
hoping there will be no probing which might follow over abuse of public resource.Congratulations Dr you deserve a pat on your back.
What is with these tribal people. There is nothing western here. He is relieved because his contract expired. Whats wrong with that? These is nw pathetic. Stop paddling tribal politics here. We are all Zambian guys.
AWE KWENA MWAKOKOLA MUNCITO TATA. ITS FAIR THAT YOUR CONTRACT IS NOT RENEWED THOUGH YOU WOULD HAVE LOVED TO CONTINUE. YOU ARE RELIEVED JUST AS THE GOVERNOR WAS. HE’D BEEN GOVERNOR BEFORE I WAS BORN AND WOULD HAVE LOVED TO CONTINUE IF NOT FOR SATA. I SHOULD BE REPLACED, FEMALES ARE GOOD AND SECRETARIAL WORK AND I CAN DO BETTER THAT HIM. WHAT ARE THE QUALIFICATIONS?
Insansa kuchinjana. nabanankwe balyeko!
The contract just ended and the man is not asking for more considering the nonses and embarrassments going on. The Man is quite knowladgable and his services will be required elsewhere like the university of zambia. He is not a quack. Most bloggers expose a lot of ignorance.
EVEN A PRESIDENTIAL POSITION HAS ITS LIMIT. BUT THIS KANGAJA WORKED MORE THAN HIS STOMACH CAN TAKE, IMAGIN MORE THAN THE PRESIDENTS AND EARNING ALL THAT MONEY JUST FOR HIM SELF SELFISH MAN…..
How long have you been working; how about your stomach and who do you share your money with, have you ever donated anything to a charity organisation in your country?
Thanks Dr Kanganja, but you are better off retired big man, rather than being reduced to a kaponya, the way we are seeing other so called professionals being berated publicly in front of their wives and kids.
@12 Chaosim understand issues before you comment. Ignorance is very expensive. Civil Servants work longer than presidents due to the term of office. Again lets understand issues please.
Congrats doc
VIVA Dr Kanganja, long live the civil service
Lets wait and see , we can not manage to pretend, tribal isue is real in Zambia , this was also reflected in the voting pattern in september 20 elections. Therefore, It is important to balance apointmenmts from all provinces , because each province has well educated people. The fact that, the two Doctors Fundanga and Kanganja are North-westerners and they are relieved off their duties, could be understood differently.
For now Lets wait because more northwesteners are being apointed like, muchima, masumba, Sayifwanda declined.
Doctor Kanganja enjoy your retirement and if recalled do not decline.
Do we still have Bembas without a job who will take up this one. Is chanda beu Bemba ?
Funniest thing I’ve read all day. lmao. To be honest, President Micheal Sata should think long and hard about the Doc’s replacement, cuz if he goes the Bemba way, it could very easily be il-understood by most of us – however well-suited for the position “the Bemba” may be.
Really funny. I think Chanda Beu abeuka fye bati te mubemba iyo.Kwena wansekesha mune.
Chanda Chimwi mighty take the job he is Bemba I know.
old aged pipo shud retire n replaced with fresh blood. old cud be used for consultation. they have made enough money, its time for them to become entrapreneurs n employ others. b4 i was born they were in gvt. wat abt us the new generation? wen ll be our time?
Dr fundanga is lala from central province.he is not from N/western province i know pipo want to make a strong case out of sata’s appointments but lets learn to present accurate data.
Bt sata 1st thot of extendg retiremnt age hw old is Dr?dt aside hes likely to be replest by a mwamba, malama, kambwili, chanda or frm muchinga lets wait n c!
Exactly what does this position do? How much power does the position hold? I hope it is not one of those positions the higher-ups use to flex their political muscle.
What all you political geniuses blogging should do is to advocated for all such positions to be approved by parliament.
Let a white man like Veep take over this job. These tribal chaps fro kuntwano are pathetic!
Dr Kanganja is a very smart man and he served diligently. He is relatively young and he can still better for himself such as becoming an entrepreneur, open up a university or go for greener pasture abroad. Currently Zambia is being served by a lot of retards difficult to mingle with. Sata can never be compared to Dr Kanganja in anyway. Move is obviously tribal. Pay back time is coming….continue surrouding ur self with retards and you will pay heavily.
Those of you who are bitter about Kanganja, how long do you want him to be at the helm of the civil service? If he has served from KK surely isnt that enough? For me i think its time for him to pave way for others and we just hope that there will be no nepotism this time around. Rumour is that Mumba Kapumpa is preferred, all hell will break loose! I feel sorry for the civil servants anyway.
ati dr fundanga is from north western. my foot! pure tribal sentiments on this subject. why? if i mall ask.
Having held the position of Dean at Unza’a School of Law, Dr. Kanganja is a fully-fledged Law academic. His vast experience in Govt places him in high esteem for appointment in any of the best Universities in the World and other structures of government in some part of Africa. May God bless Dr. Kanganja as he breathes a sigh of relief.
