The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has refuted media reports that diplomats complained about the conduct of the immediate past Minister Chishimba Kambwili prompting President Michael Sata to carryout a mini-cabinet reshuffle.
Public relations officer Mushaukwa Lubinda has told QFM that Mr. Kambwili’s transfer to the ministry of labour, Youth and Sport is not as a result of the alleged complaints from the diplomats.
Mr. Lubinda says the decisions to move Mr. Kambwili is based on the fact that he performed exceptionally well thereby contributing to the improvement of working relations between the ministry and diplomatic corps.
He adds that the ministry is grateful to Mr. Kambwili for his dedication to service and that the ministry also remains confident that he will equally excel in his new portfolio.
In today’s edition, the Post has carried a story stating that diplomats complained about Mr. Kambwili’s behavior.

I like Kambwili, he works like someone in leadership not like a coward. Zambia is our country, we do not have to begg anyone to invest here. Investors come to African to make money and nothing else. Yes I agree he worked very well at the ministry of FA. for example that meeting of the president with chinese investors was very import for Zambia, it was organised by his ministry.

I suspect the post is correct on this one. This is just the first of more embarrassing workings of the pf to come. To those that had objectively looked at the pf campaign rumblings, it is not surprising. Most of Sata cabinet members have no clue about governance. they keep urging on THEIR leader on a destructive path without hindrance. I m happy that many Zambians are not as stupid, though. More and more people will start realising who the REAL Sata is, as more days pass the 90day miracle nonsense. Even some of the people he has appointed to act as his shield in dodgy activities. Remember the Levy – Chiluba arrangement. I foresee principled people leaving this govt.

‘lapses’ like the president telling DPP what to do, in broad day light!! what hope is there for the ordinary citizen to be protected by the law, if the president wanted to ‘sort you out’.In a democracy, that should be the most basic separation of power. I foresee the likes of Guy Scott and others not staying in this cabinet for too long. Watch this space
I think this move is welcome and avoids the risk of bad international image. The FA ministry is very sensitive and any mismanagement could result in huge costs for the country. Better send him to harass the Chinese that are not obeying labour laws. Good luck in your new assignment.
What Lubinda is aying does not make sense. Many analytical people have already punched holes through his statement. Those in PF government should know that this is not Zambia of the 1960s when whatever Kaunda and his UNIP said went. Now Zambians analyse every statement before swallowing it or spitting it out.

Kambwili wasn’t Foreign Affairs material may be Labour MInister or Home Affairs Minister. Lubinda was doing fairly well as Govt spokesperson. He will have to improve somewhat on diplomacy because he likes calling Malawians dogmatic. Kambwili should just be sent back to the Luangwa river with the other hippos where he belongs. It is bad enough for the country’s image that we have a mad undeducated tribalist as president, it is even worse when you have copper thieving thugs like Kambwili in the cabinet too. As for his sorting out the chinese – dont make me laugh, he was already chewing with them even before PF came into power as he had a contract with the Luanshya mine despite all the noise he was making about how they treat workers. His record of treating workers is hardly exemplary. Its public knowledge that Kambwili lacked the polish and etiquette that goes with the job. He just did not cut the picture of a Foreign Minister. He could not articulate international issues with requisite diplomacy in the time that he was at the Ministry. Keeping him there longer would have resulted in continued gaffes and unnecessary spats. Too “crude and rough cut” and uncultured. He is better off staying in parliament to rubble rouse!

The fact that MFA are issuing this statement means there is something wrong somewhere! Let the appointing authority make a statement if necessary. No one had to tell us that kambwili is an embarassment. Move on to more pertinent issues and not hoes and stuff!
The truth is this is a one man government. That’s why you have a vice president with totally no constitutional powers. The man usually acting as president when Sata is away is his relative. You have to forget about succession. An old man like Sata is supposed to have a young and vibrant deputy he can groom as a successor.

Public relations officer Mushaukwa Lubinda is just exercising his profession at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – the seat of diplomacy. He is simply trained to applying principles of diplomacy to play-down hot issues for which many Zambians are quite knowledgeable. The truth is that Kambwili was a square peg stuck in a round hole.
The only story in this write-up is that POST can finally get whats happening within PF wrong or at least a government official can now have the courage to say POST is wrong. Quite a surprise considering how things have been going so far.
