COMMITTEE of Citizens executive director Gregory Chifire

The Chief Registrar of Societies deregistered Gregory Chifire’s Committee of Citizens and Moses Lungu’s Evangelical Youth Alliance International.

Also de-registered is the Leadership Environment and Development Southern Africa.

Chief Registrar of Societies Clement Andeleki in a statement obtained by QFM says the de-registrations effective 23rd January, 2012 are in exercise of the powers vested in him by Section 13 of the Societies ACT, Chapter 119 of the Laws of Zambia.

Mr Andeleki says the three organizations have been operating illegally and have failed to pay annual returns and complying with their terms of registration.

He has also reminded all registered societies, political parties, clubs, charity organizations, churches and other related organizations that payment for annual returns is due and that the closing date for annual returns is 31st march,2012.

  5. No more money for this idi-ot then. Go on now Chifi, spill the beans! You have Mr Jere Capitalist Boot Fimo Fimo Free Market will help you.

  6. At least all the MMD regimes allowed the media especially the Post to say anything about them but this one uuuuhhmmm ni Idi Amin Dada na Mugabe type, anyway fili eko tuleya

    • you can’t compare chifire to media, buddy. let this fool hang… we can have individual vocal voices in the country, but let them be voices for the people…

  7. closing date for annual returns is 31st march,2012 but other organisation have been deregistered before that date? Just for record purposes, someone willl have to answer to this once pf is out!

    • :)>- @ Political Observer????

Haven’t U heard that IT WAS OPERATING ILLEGALLY, he didn’t file in returns for 31st March 2011.

  8. @ No. 6 There was no need to consult the people on the introduction of new notes…you wanted the MMD to be alerted so that they can change the hidden ‘billions’. Now they have shiki polomwa with this Chi Chifire BIG LIPS f’**ck*** vuvuzela ke ke ke

  10. @ No. 6 There was no need to consult the people on the introduction of new notes…you wanted the MMD to be alerted so that they can change the hidden ‘billions’. Now they have shiki polomya
with this Chi Chifire BIG LIPS f’**ck*** vuvuzela ke ke ke

  11. I hate Gregory Chifire, Lifwekelo, Stanley Muhango and the new comer Macdonald Chipenzi..they are all *****s whose mission is to loot. They have no shame, no morals..nothing. Ba Kolwe.

  12. Lets talk like intellectuals.

What benefits did the Zambian piopulation get from Chifire when he single handedly attempted to support circumventing of the people’s will with his misleading statements? I would definitely cry foul if and when credible organisations like TI, Post, etc are being shut up as oppossed to *****s who had a meal only after trying to mislead the nation.

Also when one register an organisation, they have to stick to the purpose in general of their mandate. Citizens Committee became a political party in all its deeds and not a pressure group/civil society organisation.

  13. The best approach was to send a warning that if you do not send annual returns we shall close you down. Otherwise now the action is seen as silencing people with opposing views. Different views are always good in a democracy. In Science, this is the first point, if two other opposing views organisations are closed in similar manner, people will start making conclusions.

  14. On this blog you meet the dullest of people.#”18 closing date is March 31st”. The article clearly starts that these organizations have been operating illegally. Does it occur to you that they could be owing for years? #17 MMD never allowed anyone to say anything as recently confessed by George Kunda. For your information George Kunda has been recently covered by all media institution including ZNBC more than they have covered Sata. #20 Divergent views does not mean insulting and telling lies about others. This careless boy has infringed on a lot of people’s rights. Democracy is not stupidity. Why does everyone now need to be consulted about anything? Do you want the PF government to consult Liato over changing of currency? We want the MMD to take the buried money to the bank.

  15. Its pay back time , chifire are you not ashamed? now that you have been de-registered we want you to give us a full audit report on how much money you had received to run your ka mtemba organization and disclose the source of funding, also in your report include what you achieved interms of activities carried out during the life span of your organization. people of Zambia want transparency from you.

  16. ahhhh #6 man of the people, I DONT KNOW that ZAMBIA has a new currency. Can YOU tell us about this New Zambian currency you mentioned? All WE KNOW is that Government has introduced New notes NOT NEW CURRECNCY. LOL

    • bututu fye some of these people… and he calls himself man of the people… the way the ignorant claim pedestals! never ceases to amaze.

  17. some have been de registered for failing to pay annual returns whilst others have been given upto 31st march 2012 to clear the dues. Chifire mwana, though your statements were very irritating, this one is very unfair to you and your clique. only God knows

  18. Wa mona Chifire, ifyamba walepepa kachelo chelo no ku sabaila. Anyway, let us meet this evening to discuss the issue.

  19. The trouble is there’s no law that would stop him from forming another organisation tomorrow and another after tomorrow.

  20. Some Zambians are dull. This is another act by state house to silence anyone who speaks out in opposition to PF and it’s Govt, a right that should be enjoyed by every citizen including Chifire. A clear affront of someones democratic rights, and yet the ignorant and blinded are praising this as if it warrants praise. Chifire was a voice for some voiceless anti-PF citizens and he should not be hounded out in this manner. How many of these NGO’s are up to date annual return payments and since when did the chief registrar take an interest in this particular organisation? I wonder whether or not Chifire’s organisation was even given notice on this course of action.

  21. The Civil Society is the bedrock of a democratic environment.. It is evident why Chifires organization has been de-registered. Any which way freedom will come…

  22. On this one every normal and sober reasoning Zambian would know to say this is purely silencing people with different views. To be honest there are thousands of organisations that have not been up to date with annual returns.

Iyi yena twatina bu dictator bwakulisha. mwana ba sata kanshi efyo mwaba ifi naba mudala? or ni don’t
kubeaba aini? W e are watching with interest how things are done by our new govt- time will tell=2016

  23. #34 you must realise that The PF government is very seriouse on how the gvt departments should run, institutions such as this one, are now applying more effort to ensure their operations are effective unlike the way they used to work. So the action taken to de-register organisations which are not operating according to the law is not selective. Just becuase Chifire was against PF can not deter the gvt from de-registering his org. How will other people whose orgs have been de-registerd feel.

  24. Kwekwe currently @39, I am assuming that your blog was directed at me. If so, my challenge is simply to point to the fact that this PF lead Govt has no real agenda that has been communicated to the public hence inquisitive and skeptical individuals like me will draw inferences based on what is taking place. Since when did these agencies start reporting on NGO’s non compliance and why does the Snr Registrar take an interest? The only kick into action as soon as someone criticizes PF and on this occassion this was one starting step. Since September 20th, the only thing evident in this Govt is its detremination to silence opposition and any voice of decent including internet blogs. Any opposition who opens his mouth is soon labelled a plunderer and some rough allegation slapped on them.

  25. Wait a minute. If the returns are due on 31 March, how come these organisations have been penalised? Unless they failed to file returns for the previous years, but the timing is suspicious. The route being taken by the PF Govt is very dangerous and people should not cheer these arbitrary decisions. Look at the Zamtel fiasco. I shudder at the thought of where we will be one year down the line. The future does not look good

  26. The Registar of societies and labour officers. Do you deserve your positions if don’t do your job? It shouldn’t take a New govt to prod you to do what you are paid to do. Heads should roll.

  27. @#43, I respect your concern but it is very difficult for you and me to make a conclusion that PF has a hand in this. You have asked since when gvt agencies reported on non compliance of NGOs,well if they have not been reporting it was an oversight becuase the law requires that they regulate and report to the nation which NGO has been de’registered so that we know. That is why I said in my other comment that these angencies have just realised that they are now under seriouse leadership. So to me this reaction is just a proactive reaction so that the registrar is not found wanted for fauilure to function. This is what we wanted, everyone to do their job without being pushed or intimidated.

    • Kwekwe, the fact that Chifire’s case has been reported suggests political influence/interest. The media including LT did not just smell the actions of an admin worker at the Registrar’s office. Someone brought this to their attention. Clearly the now very busy investigative wings have been looking into what can bring this mouth piece down. The office of the registrar may well have been taking action about non compliance in the past as a matter of day to day work but never an issue for the press when the de-register an NGO. Why this one and why at this point when others have been given “some notice”?

  28. Police state we are. Zambians took everthing for granted now this is apolice state. Who can say whta they want to say to the public without being minitored or summoned? PF govt has created this tag to themselves as a represssive and authoritarian government. We have had other governments to compare with although lapses were with them but PF govt is that of dictatorship.

  29. @43,Its a worry. Regarding PF agenda, I can assure you PF is going to perform 100 times better than MMD in everything. So far you have seen alot of changes in a number of things including the media, thank God people can now listen to ZNBC news, in mining, the government enganged Chinese embassador on poor working conditions in chinese mines and I am sure you head him report that all chinese mines he visted are now complying, In agriculture you will soon hear the policy the gvt has enacted to promote agriculture and uplift leaving standards in rural areas, in healthy the president approved construction of over 60 health posts,in roads the gvt has approved construction of new roads through out the country. All these happened within 5 months of PF in power. What more do you want to hear?

    • Kwekwe, I beg to disagree to disagree and I will point out from the outset that I have no political alliance whatsoever and I will condemn and praise any party depending on the direction the take and the impact on Zambia as I see it (may not always make sense to everyone). I also sincerely hope PF do well and contribute to reducing corruption in Zambian society. I strongly believe this is the only item they can achieve and that wont be due to policy but a rather peoples fear as a result of Sata’s pronoucements. However even that is at risk if the PF Govt continue to be selective (as I educe from development to date). The rest of indicators are aspirations than anything else. Only a few days ago, some more Zambians died at the same Cullum mine and the Govt has been mute!…

    • Continued: Workers at Kansanshi Mine were on strike earlier this month and that followed Bob Sichinga’s visit. If you ask any miner on the ground or indeed any Zambian, they will tell you that nothing has changed. They are treated with distain and continue to be paid less for the same work. KCM continues to strategically exclude and deny business to Zambian companies. Roads were projects from the previous admin and I am not aware of the 60 health posts (are they to counter MMD’s mobile Hosp?) But I also clear that the creation of extra districts and Muchinga is a costly excercise with no real contribution to Zambia as is the now proposed debasing of the Kwacha and dare I mention Zamtel!!! and COI’s. Really I cant agree with you on this.

  30. OOOOH, HOW RELIEVING. THIS IS LONG OVERDUE. THAT SPLUTTERING CHATTERBOX CAN LEARN TO SHUT UP FOR ONCE.

  31. This shutting up of opposing views will no help PF and some of you supporting shutting up the opposition and such individuals as gregory. @ kapala, what credibility for the Post and IT is there? ask post news papers employees of fred m’meembe treats them. As SIMUNYOLA a long time tool of Fred at the printing plant and other managers that have left, at the post when Fred is sitting in the canteen, you can not even ask your friends to say Grace before you eat. The man is an EARTHIEST. Thats why the post is full of hate stories and unfortunately three quarters of our people enjoy reading that as especially the disgusting editorials. Remember even devils know scripture. talk about TI and Godwell and Reuben Lifuka, these are no saints. Make an effort to talk to their workers. Amen

  32. He was a puppet paid by MMD big wigs to say things in favour of MMD. Without money, he could not talk. Let him learn a lesson from this and get an honest living. He should be ashamed of receiving money for just blabbing all the time.
