Dear Bloggers,
I would please like you to advise me on what to do. My husband died in 1995, and from that time I have been unable to claim his Group Life insurance. The first time I inquired I was told it couldn’t be paid because the company he worked for (then Premium Oils Industries) was owing in premiums. Then the company went into liquidation. At Zambia State Insurance I was told it was a non starter.Please can someone out there advise me as to what to do to get the money.

Im sorry to hear about you situation. However unfortunatly if the premiums where not paid then your late husband’s policy was not valid hence the insurance company is not obliged to pay you. Do you have any documentation which can prove otherwise? That your husbands premiums were indeed paid?
sorry about that my dear but as bb has said if no premiums were paid the insurance company has no obligation to pay because it never recieved, it is rather unfortunate that the company went into liquidation because they made deductions from his salary that they did not remit
You can also find out who the liquidator is and they should clarify the true position of those premiums. If the company never remitted but had deducted from his payslip then the company (in liquidation) owes you the money and the liquidator should refund you.

I feel very sorry for you my sister .I think the you need to provide evidence that shows how money was being deducted from your husband’s salary.At the same time you need to see the liquidator immediately .If at all the company your husband worked for had paid even for one year then i feel the insurance can give you the little saving for that perticular period.

madam please try the PENSIONS AND INSURANCE AUTHORITY. am sure you could bump into some piece of legislation that could open avenues for further inquiry into your case. good luck

Life assuarance is not deducted from the employee; it is a condition of service. The company pays and and premiums are based on annual salary and number of years insured for (ie 3 years of annual salary to be compensated). Many companies obtain cover from brokers or insure directly. Two options: find out the status of the company with cover (not premium payments) from liquidator. It is the isnurance company to pursue liquidator while you get paid. Secdondly, I advise you get help from Chibamba Kanyama to link you up to ZSIC. Check his website for details. He is a gentleman and helps a lot of people.
