President Sata withdraws the appointment of Mpulungu DC after protests

Share

President MICHAEL SATA Sata has with immediate effect, withdrawn the appointment of Paxton Wilombe as new District Commissioner for Mpulungu.

Mr Wilombe will be redeployed.

President Sata has also withdrawn the appointment of the substantive District Commissioner Mande Chapewa who was appointed in November last year.

The President has further ordered that the office of the District Commissioner in Mpulungu remain closed until further notice.

This follows concerns raised by some people against the appointment of Mr. Wilombe as District Commissioner for Mpulungu.

Northern Province Permanent Secretary EMMANUEL MWAMBA told ZNBC news in a statement that the president has however, cautioned the people of Mpulungu to be tolerant and not act in a tribal manner.

Mr MWAMBA said the president has warned government and party officials not to undermine or frustrate his appointments or actions.

Following the appointment of Paxton Wilombe as DC for Mpulungu, some members of the PF in Mpulungu staged a demonstration on Thursday 2nd February alleging that Mpulungu will not be led by a party member from Mbala.

They also alleged that the party in the district should be allowed to nominate a member from Mpulungu who should be appointed as a District Commissioner.

  1. So bu District Commissioner is a political position after all. When the former were fired we were told that this was because their appointments had been political. Pa Zed napo, triple standards!!!

  2. it makes sense, there are so many people in mpulungu that can be DC by why bring people from other districts. Sata think before you act, DC is not professional position like in education, health, or police. anyone educated can be DC.

  3. We heard from kabimba in the postNewspaer that DCs are civil servants and need be appointed from the Public Service, Whats this a hear about appointments by President/Minister involvement? Comming tp tribal, why is it that now the issues of tribal ahve become so pronounced then ever before?

PF examine yourselves. You can not govern sustainably
    like this…

  4. (5
werer) You made my day with the shuffle master theory. I wont be suprised if he wont shuffle the rivers as well!!!!

  5. wow drama in my mpulungu let people talk coz its da govt for the people..How can you choose somebody from mbala to become a DC in mpulungu? what does it mean? does it mean we don’t have educated people who can stand on that post in mplulungu? come on wake up people now is the time to fight for your rights!!!by the way my mum is in mpulungu!!

  6. We are the ones that are Ruling and this is why he has to wait for us to react that is when he Reverses his Decisions.

  7. My appeal to the people of Mpulungu should be service delivery than having some one from Mpulungu who may not deliver. However it will be very nice to have a person from Mpulungu to deliver for his people in the area.People, Dcs should be able to implement government program mes effectively.I believe Zambians should look at that more than where one comes from.

  8. @Ba Kafupi, I guess even your reasoning is short. Honestly, do you need someone from Mpulungu to work in Mpulungu? This is nosense, should the Solis say the same about Lusaka, or the Lambas about the Copperbelt? We need developemnt, and it will not come with these petty antics.

  9. Mr President, to show you’re not biased towards Northerners, please also hear the cry of the Southerners. They do not want Miles Sampa – he has openly insulted them! In the same spirit as you have made this change, can you please move Miles away….. but who are we kidding, you’re such a tribalist only one part of the country matters to you. By the time you are done, you will have caused so much chaos to our beloved country – the damage Chiluba did to Ndola will look like child’s play!! But please prove me wrong…. I beg you!! I have been praying for you to prove my expectations of you wrong ever since you came in. Unfortunately you actions so far have been the disappointment I expected them to be!!

  10. But why can’t southerners be heard also? They DO NOT WANT MILES SAMPA. Do you want Tongas to protest in the streets for you to understand. We are tired of akapatulula.

  11. Earlier we were told that the position of DC will be ocuppied by civil servants. Now we see a u-turn and the PF is using the same position to reward their cadres. How can we trust this government if it keeps on doing the oposite of what it proclaims? We want a clear economic agenda for our country because we want to move forward. Please listen to the constant cries of the people. They want food on their tables and not populist pronouncements in a vacuum. We are tired of this nonsense.

  12. BIG MOUTHED BLOGGERS FROM THE CORRUPT MMD AND CHILDISH TRIBAL UPND YAPPING AS USUAL. NO MATTER HOW BIG YOUR MOUTH CAN GO, WE ARE IN POWER.NOTHING WRONG WITH THE PEOPLE OBJECTING TO THE PRESIDENTS APPOINTMENT EXCEPT THAT THE REASON IS BASED ON TRIBAL LINES, NOTHING WRONG WITH THE PRESIDENT LISTENING TO STAKEHOLDERS IN DEVELOPMENT WHO ARE THE ZAMBIANS AND REVERSING THE APPOINTMENT.THIS EXPLAINS WHY MMD FAILED,THEY NEVER LISTENED TO PEOPLE. THIS IS WHAT WE CALL A LISTENING GOVT, YOU MORONS!!!!

    • Iwe Lukwekwe, why can’t your Bemba president also listen to the Tongas and return Miles Sampa to Matero where he comes from?  Tongas don’t want this tribalist to be their provincial Minister.  Can’t you get that in your thick chamba-filled skull, you numbskull?

    • iwe ba kwekwe, you just showed the world how *****ic u r, people r not objecting sata bin president just that let him do wot his done for the north for the south too. but imwe ubushilu bwenu u decide to insult us loyal mmd. all i can say is ur pathetic *****ic moron.

  13. Chief Labour Officer who once said people should be employed on merit. Since this is a civil service position, why does he keep appointing cadres instead of either promoting serving officers or advertising the positions to prove transparency. I don’t see any difference with the previous regime.

  14. A listening gvt in power. Thank you Mr President give them a local tribes man, even those southerners give them their man, so that if they fail to deliver, you will not be blamed.

  15. What is up with these Bembas?  Can’t a Namwanga rule over them too?  Surely Wilombe speaks their language and is their brother.  Instead they discriminate by the village like their president. WHAT TRIBALISTS!!

  16. I think this is shocking. The tribalization of Zambia by SataN is coming back to bite him in his pratside where it stinks and never ever shines. Imagine then refusing to be ruled by a fellow Northerner, what if it was someone from North Western, Western or Southern? I hope Tongas can also demonstrate against Sampa, let him be appointed minister for his province because this is what Sata has started so let him swallow the bitter medicine he has made. But Mpulungese also “ni bu stinking tribolizm, we should cede them to Katangastan.

  17. If in 5 months there can be so drama and bigotry by this govt. How about after 5yrs? PF has shown that unless you are Bemba you don’t have rights as a citizen in Zambia. Am proud to be Tonga and we are watching other tribes who have been taken for a ride. Bembas know that a Tonga can never be intimidated. A Tonga will never be subdued by palava. Any right thinking person cannot wake up and say Chirundu is in Lusak provnce. One day a young person will tell Sata that he really needs school.

  18. Indeed, we are yet to witness more drama arising from State House. It is strange that the PF cadres are contradicting their own President’s political policy of NEVER TO ENGANGE POLITICAL CADRES INTO GOVT INSTITUTIONS – the position of DCs is not an exception. The weakness of the President Sata is slowly surfacing for his lack of boldness in dealing with his own cadres. This weak President is obviously dancing to tunes being trumpeted by his cadres and Mmembe’s Post. God forbid.

  19. Congrats Ambassador P.Wilombe. Hope the Japanese won’t behave like your own brothers in Mpulungu. Tribalism stinks thruout Zambia.

(FACT OF LIFE): There is only a thin line between ‘a political cadre’ and ‘a senior civil servant’.

    Peace.

  20. So Namwangas should not be given chance to be leaders by the PF, why??, are they not Zambians??.Tribalism will wont take PF anywhere.

  21. Mr Sata stop lying, there is nothing tribal about the people of mpulungu wanting their own DC. When you contested in 2006 you made a statement and I quote” It is me a Bemba versus bantu botatwe” in reference to HH and the late LPM (MHSRP). Please Sata note that the Lungus and Mambwes are not as tribalistic as you are. All the lungus are asking for is their own nominated or if you dictate then choose some one from amongst the people within those who are in Mpulungu.
