The United Party for National Development (UPND) says Chiefs Mukuni and Chikanta will be the ones to respond to Chief Mwanachingwala’s claims that the UPND forced some traditional leaders to reject the government’s realignment of some districts in southern province.

UPND deputy spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa has told QFM that it would not be right for the UPND to start exchanging words with Chief Mwanachingwala who has accused the party of having influenced the chiefs’ decision to reject the realignment of some districts.

Mr. Mweetwa adds that it would also be illogical for the party to respond to media reports as Chief Mwanachingwala has not officially communicated to UPND on his concerns that the party politically engineered a meeting for traditional leaders.

Last weekend some chiefs in southern province led by chiefs Mukuni and Chikanta resolved during a meeting not to allow government to realign Chirundu and Itezhi- tezhi districts Lusaka and Central provinces respectively.

However, Chief Mwanachingwala has urged the government to view the resolutions null and void saying the UPND had forced the chiefs to reject the realignment of the districts in southern province.

Meanwhile, Former Local Government and Housing deputy Minister Moses Muteteka has commended the minister of local government Nkandu Luo for suspending Siavonga district council on allegations of corruption.

Speaking to Qfm in Lusaka yesterday, Mr. Muteteka said there is need to ensure that elements of corruption in the local governance system are discarded without hesitation.

Mr. Muteteka has however demanded for an explanation from the current minister on what she is doing about the report into corruption allegations involving the previous Lusaka City Council which he says had a number of flaws.

He says it will be prudent for government to take action on the LCC report before embarking on investigating other councils.

Yesterday, Professor Luo suspended the Siavonga district council with immediate to pave way for investigations into the alleged corrupt practices by senior officers.

She said her ministry has received reliable reports that some senior council officers who among them is the council secretary were involved in the illegal allocation of plots.

  1. This news is becoming boring, Sata has already re-aligned the disticts. Can LT please report on other things? Are we going to dwell on the same issue which we know will not be reversed? Or is it that LT just enjoys covering UPND even on trivial issues which are not weath covering? Or is it that there are no developmental issues to cover in Zambia, thus a trivial statement like Mweetwa’s makes HEADLINES? What is happening to our country kanshi?

  2. Bemba man,the realignment has been rejected, not even a Kilometre. If the President goes further in sending the Surveyor General, who will allow him to enter or demarcate the Land? Spears and Bbazukas are waiting for him.Local People are well alert on the ground.

  3. Who consulted the Chiefs when the whites were creating the provinces and districts???
Let Sata rule Zambians gave him the vote to do things differently because there would be no need for change.

  4. mba man if u don’t undrstand an issue better u jst keep quiet. Don’t u see that these are issues that hav caused chaos and civil wars in othr countries? The President shud be able 2 reverse some decisions if pipo oppose them for national interest’s sake. That is how a gud leader shud be.

  5. Bemba man if u don’t undrstand an issue better u jst keep quiet. Don’t u see that these are issues that hav caused chaos and civil wars in othr countries? The President shud be able 2 reverse some decisions if pipo oppose them for national interest’s sake. That is how a gud leader shud be.

  6. The alignment has already been done. Just make the best of it. The people in the aligned districts will still be going to the same gardens. The chiefs will still control the same areas. Let Sata rule
in his own style not UPND style or MMD. That is what the people voted for. Change in management of the National affairs. Besides it it within his constitutional powers to do so. Lusaka was part of Central Province. Infact we need more Districts and Provinces for equitable distribution of resources.
Most of our tax is spent along the line of rail. I have a friend in Chama where people including Chiefs are very happy with the alignment.

  7. The Chief was 100% right and this party which claims to be democratic and not corrupt has failed to defend themselves. He says the chief has not written to UPND. Nonsense!!!, you think we are children to be deceived. You where busy corrupting Chiefs paying them seating allowances and you say you can fight corruption? You are a bunch deceivers!! HH cant cheat us by using sweet words of what he going to do for this country when he is talking, He has a heart of a Tiger.

  8. Yes, you won’t comment because you are f%#@king guilty. Thank you for stating the obvious Mr Useless Mweetwa.

UPND are decampaigning themselves out of bitterness and remorse for denying themselves the office of the VP. Instead of regrouping and carrying out an audit of their foolishness, they are making useless comments everyday. Best of luck in your bitterness.

  9. Brave Mr Mweetwa,I like yr analytical sense of leadership.Ignore the PF hooligans.their schemes to trash yr valuable contribution to checks and balances is wel known..!!!! Micheal `s pronouncement of moving Chilkundu and Itezhi Tezhi ended on his lips.IT WONT WORK.SOUTHERNERS have rejeceted the move in totality.KEEP DREAMING YOU FOOLS CHILDREN OF MONKEYS & BABOONS.

  10. This is a wise decision by UPND leadership not to respond do Chief Mwanachingwala. The Chief was just speculating that UPND influenced other Chiefs in Southern Province to object to Sata’s re-alignment of Chirundu and Itezhitezhi. He had no evidence. Yes, the Chiefs are custodians of the cultural needs of their respectives subjects. However, the Chiefs must also rely on the wisdom of politicians in matters that affect the welfare of the whole nation. The meeting held in Choma was well attended by all prominent Chiefs whose subjects embrace the Ilas (of Namwala & Itezhitezhi) the Plateau Tongas, the Valley Tongas, and the Tokas. Would this diversity of representation fall prey to dictatorial tendency being attributed to UPND? Chief Mwanachingwala must talk to his colleagues.

  11. Sometimes keeping silent proves much wiser than responding to a fool cornelius has exhibited mature sense than this ka disgraced chief. Elo nika mahule ka mudala aka kanapoka Ba uncle cilihule ku calabash in mazabuka he likes ukulya bwino kalitemwa pizza go around lunch hr he will be hanging around debonairs in mazabuka . So guys ignore this fool he is like punch drunk mupezeni bonse Ba ma castle na mahule same minds

  12. The PF Govt is sailing into dangerous divisive waters aimed at antagonising the Chiefs in Southern and Eastern Province. Earlier, President Sata publicly castigated Ngoni Chiefs Nzamani and Mazimawe for criticising Paramount Chief Mpezeni the latter of whom is alleged to sale his subject to PF for a piece of silver. This time the PF Govt is exploiting Chief Mwanachingwala to drive a divisive wedge between him and other Chiefs in Southern Province. Sata must know that his support is drawn from the gullible urban populations. The Tongas are strongly attached to their rural ethinic roots. If they die they are usually burried in their home areas. People of Eastern Province have gained more respect for the leadership qualities demonstrated by Southern Province Chiefs. To hell with Mpezeni.

  13. were is the analytical sense of leadership someone is praising here.mweetwe said he can not respond bcoz chief mwanachingwala didnt communicate this issue to UPND but went to the press.when UPND heard that govt intends realign some districts in the press they rushed to comment instead of requesting for wriiten communication.if UPND has nothing to do with what mwanachingwala they can just say so.as someone said this issue is exhausted.

  14. @6 Don King & 9 BJ… You are the ones that are dull and in denial… The new districts have already been created. remeber they weren’t didstricts before and have already been realigned to the respective provinces. Appointments ahve been made.. its done. Presidential decrees and orders unless unconstitutional or revoked by the president himslef are executed with the stroke of teh pen.. Move on.. you are bloggin in lalalalala land, people on the ground have been realigned district hospital plans being laid out for construction , district officeresin education health etc been appointed… deal with it.. If you feel so strongly about the issue, you are free to reverse it it your UPND candidate wins the general election and has the instruments of power, if ever. for now. you are ruled.

  15. You fools your stupidity has been exposed by patriotic and galant chief in the name of mwanachingwala viva civilised chief.

  16. @#22 is telling the whole world that royally dull and greed for money pays in the eyes of PF. To Sata and his cadres, Chief Mwanachingwala, Chief Mpezeni and Chief Nkomeshya are Heros for their inability to think wisely.

  17. Fools are quick to call others fools. Some districts in Zambia do not just make sense. One case is in Luapula, where a school just 2 miles from Samfya secondary school and town is said to be under Mansa. Teachers have to pass through Samfya in order to get Mansa. What a waste of time and resources. Is not time for resolving such chaos? Please let us face this issue positively. Let us grow up and stop insulting each other.

  18. Most people are talking negatively on the re-alignment because they have grown up along the line of rail and have no idea what our brothers and sisters, who are posted in the rural areas, go  through to reach for services or access their hard earned salaries. If you are based in Chavuma, you have to travel for 24 hours to reach Solwezi if you cannot access your salary, this is not right. This decentralisation should be welcomed  by any Zambia who has been to the villages and experienced the hardships due to isolation of a place.

  19. Everyone knows that realignment is beneficial to the districts. The chiefs are just upset because he didn’t consult them. I think the chiefs should not act in the manner they have. Northern province has been cut up to form Muchinga province…no chief that side is complaining. Sometimes we should not just reject everything. I mean, even when the two towns are realigned, the land wont be altered physically? We should embrace every development the government makes. If I may ask all of you in opposition to this move, what is wrong with the realignment? Someone give me a valid answer! Why do you support things without reason?

  20. Chief chapyakooku is unprincipled character. Bloggers will recall that in the run up to septemebr, 20 tripatite elections chief chapyakooku is on record of having made disparaging remarks on pf leader and now republican president Mr Michael Chilufya Sata and the words he uttered against Mr Sata were horrible and not beffiting a father of the chiefdom. 2. He -chief Chapyakooku has not apologized to the republican president because he is too pompous to do that more so he was one of the bootlickers of RB. 4. He and his Livingstone counterpart Chief Mukuni told lies that the SP chiefs had endorsed RB as the candidate they would support for presidency during the general elections of 2010. Now chief chapyakooku is now at it again telling lies!

  21. Chief Mwanachingwala…….goes with the wind……….he is not a chief but a businessman will follow where he thinks he will take advantage………

  22. dialog is key to avoid misinformation, the advantages are there to see, consult your friends in muchinga,GOVT has mandate to anything that bring improved living standard give them chance and prove them wrong if they fail.

  23. No one takes Mwanachingwala seriously. not even his children. I wish the PF knew the type of person they are dealing with. ma riffruf.

  24. what ever you eat in the night will be known in the day.UPND and Hh wants to treat sp as their plot whose bicons cannot shifted.i wonder what HH and his party thinks,to think that u can gain popularity on this, then u are joking.Telling pipo to refuse what will benefit them is foolishness. If Tongas believe that you are their messiah, whether they are in c/prov,s/prov/L/prov etc they will still believe in you.

  25. I think Southerners are problem.
1.why are you failing to provide the disadvantages of the move?
    2. HH was against with the move of forming another province. He was saying Sata is tribalism. He wants to develop northern.
    3. sometime let work with the Govt to bring development. If southern Chiefs reject that move, are you telling me that chiefs will bring development to those areas? You southerners whats your problem? you shud reject on merit or else the areas will be left undeveloped and you will still complain even if its you who are rejecting the offer this time. In fact PF shud not be bothered with your rejection after all you didnt vote for PF you voted for HH.

  26. I have not yet read any reasons why some bloggers (and the UPND) are against re-alignment aside from insinuating political overtones. If it is easier for the new district populations to access services and resources easier than before, what is the problem. By the way, in the process of easing their lives they will naturally gravitate towards the party that has provided this ease. The ball game has changed. This is a government that appears not to wait for an election year to begin to help the electorate. This must be a new dispensation in delivery of political and civil power. Deal with it.

  27. this chief is just a nuisance..he’s sick so he wants to be flown out of the country for treatment..viva UPND..& the wise chiefs!!
