Get Involved Zambia Executive Director Father Frank Bwalya has advised the Patriotic Front government not to entertain homosexuality in the country as propagated by UN Chief Ban Ki-moon who was in the country recently.

Father Bwalya says the government should instead listen to the voices of the people basing their arguments on the status of Zambia as a Christian nation.

Speaking in an interview with QFM, Father Bwalya says Get Involved Zambia agrees that people of homosexual orientation need to be loved and respected but states that it opposes calls to recognize gay rights in Zambia.

He says all that people need to do is to distinguish between homosexual orientation and homosexual acts.

Father Bwalya has since expressed optimism that government will not condone recognizing homosexual acts in the country as it is shameful.

And African Union implementation team member Joseph Chilengi has called on the Zambian Government to allow debate on homosexuality.

Mr. Chilengi says it is also important for the Zambian stakeholders to understand the motivation behind the United Nations and western nations’ push for developing countries to respect gay rights.

Mr. Chilengi adds that the Zambian government should ensure that debate on the issue of gay rights is exhausted before issuing any statement on its position.

He notes that debate on gay rights is a sensitive matter which should be handled with the caution it deserves.

QFM
Mr Chilengi adds that it is important that Zambia comes up with a position that will be acceptable both locally and internationally.

  1. It is even a waste of time to even think of taking it to parliament.the person who came to push for it is not a homo, how does he push us? He’s doin it for the job,now those in touch with ban kin mwezi shud tel him to leave it to the same homos to come out and give us their reasons for doing such stupidity.

  2. Discussing it parliament is the best way of handling this problem. This is an issue which needs to be discussed.Avoidng discussion in the name of religion is just too lame. Not everyone is christian after all.

  3. When chanda chimba said it we doubted. Now Bwalya has confirmed that PF is pro homo. Thank God tilibe nzelu tonse. Tinakana RB omanga masukulu zipatala na commissioning projects everyday and chose SATANA NJOKA omanga anthu nama commission of inquiries.

  4. Why does the Red bandit’s condemnation stop at Bans speech? He should go the whole hog and condemn paedophilia, homosexuality and adultery among his fellow clergy.

  5. Sensitive issue my ass! Let them do it in the dark so they dont pollute other people’s minds. there is nothing “locally” or “internationally” acceptable about these things sin is sin and it must be dealt with accordingly. adultery, paedophilia, murder etc all are sins and there is a price for it. as for Ban ki moon and his masters are they saying they can only pay us aid if they see us f.u.c.k.i.n.g each other in the ass?

    • His masters = taxpayers and CITIZENS of the USA, Canada, the UK, and the EU. Its our money, we will spend it how we please. And we don’t owe Zambia anything. Perhaps you might find that the Chinese more amenable to Zambia’s human rights abuses. I note that you used the language “pay us aid”. So you are a Zambian immigrant to the USA. Why are you in my country if you don’t like our culture. Perhaps you can move to a country better suited to your views, like Saudi Arabia or Dubai?

  6. Why am I not surprised fathers are the most homophobic set of pedophiles I have ever met. Ok father who ever you call your self I will set you free let the gay be respected so you can come our of your closet. thats why you choose that job coz you are not attracted to women and you get to stay in a mansion with another man who isn’t attracted to women either that makes you a gay couple and thats what most fathers are. when I was in grade 8 I was molested by a father I never told my parents coz he didn’t do any damage on me. so if people would respect gay rights 8 graders boys wont be molested.

    • The Dutch are also looking to stop their subsidies of nations like Zambia, that criminalize minorities. Perhaps you might wish to return to Zambia. Tot ziens!

  7. Iwe Chilengi. You speak like a silly child.

Haven’t you seen that the UK takes exceptions to certain demands from the international community in the interest of its peoples?

The word for you is Sovereignty! Don’t be like a promiscuous man or woman who accepts anything and anyone. NO is an answer also.

The hegemonistic  tendencies of the UN can be neo-colonistic to those who are asleep. Wake up, speak up and denounce corrupt practices and orientations.

    • The sodomy laws in Zambia are a legacy of colonialism. If you want to eradicate your colonial legacy…please start there.
Please remember that the US, Canada, the UK, and the EU are ALSO sovreign and may choose to support or not support those for their own reasons as well.

  8. Ladies and gentlemen, the issue of homosexuality is a non- issue in Zambia and someone is tactifully diverting your attention on more serious issues such as youth employement, infrastructure development (i.e. roads in kamwal south etc). Infact, the PF government will deliberately remain mute so that you all exhaust your energies with arguments and counter-arguments. Let us focus on critical issues. Bye and good day

  9. If homosexuality is entertained by PF government DORA SILIYA will be vindicated and will look like a champion.

  10. Can someone provide at a list of 10 gay people in Zambia! At least I have about 500,000 people with straight sex marriages that I know..

    • Here in ATL ma Zambian nibambili Chiwaya, Angela, Gelo Kapaya,Peggy. Ku Texas Tasila, Shirley, Ngonda, Ellen, Chilufya. Ku zed kuli uyo mufana Leroy Findlay.

  11. It is not good to patronise someone who is mature and capable enough to determine one’s own course. As a sovereign state, Zambia is to take charge of her course of history. One needs to use freedom of expression to ask for recognition of one’s rights if feels sidelined in any way.
Let the Zambians, temselves, ask for the recognition of their rights as gay if they feel it deem. By the way it should not be dictated from outside. Or is it because some zambian homosexuals have complainned to the outside world that we have their advocates to speak for them for the recognition of their rights. All the same, I think it has not been heard from among the population of the zambian people to have started expressing their request for gay rights, which I interpret to mean legalising gay marriage.

  12. Iwe Chilengi you Re a stupid *****. We don’t need to please the international community on homosexuality. Is the international community pleased with polygamy which is honorable? Even Father Bwalya has said some little bit of sense that homosexuality is shameful. It is not only shameful but an abomination.

  13. Its a non-issue. The Govt should just come out and say that. And that Zambia remains as she has always been. Case closed.

  14. Father Bwalya, If u want Gays and Lesbians should be loved and respected then Homosexuality should be legalised, Gays are every where in the world including Zambia, Why we africans always takes long time to accept What is happening in our Countries? Gay Zambia Woyeee!Gay Malawi Woyeee!!!!

  15. Honestly i dont understand this, why was this not issue talked before and has to take ki mwenzi as someone has called to come and dig this dirty out come guys why even put it on the table.why even waste time urguing when we know it cant happen here in mother zambia.

  16. be warned all u gays n lesbians propagating legalisation of ur evil acts that i wil trace u & ll surely be the 1st to shooting ur dirty assholes.stupid miti n all u otherz be on the luk out including u master homo mmembe

    • Mr. “Hillz”,

You are aware that advocacy of violence against Gays can hurt your immigration status if you are an immigrant to the US (even after naturalization). I wonder, is the server for the Lusaka Times located in a nation that cooperates with the USA on legal mattets. It sounds like you are making a terroristic threat against Gay persons.

  17. We have more problems than gays. We need more employment and less poverty. Remove prostitutes from our streets. Education and the list goes on.

  18. The Father is in DIRECT violation of Catechism 2358 of the Catholic Church, which states that unjust discrimination against Gays is against Church doctrine. He should repent his support for criminalization of Gay persons or be removed publically by the Vatican.

He is creating a scandal to the faith.

  19. This isn’t about Gay marriage. This is about Zambia criminalizing ALL Gay men. If you wish to have a Zambian debate regarding marriage equality, then have a debate. But before a real debate can take place, you cannot simply say that all of one side of an argument are de facto criminals. As an American taxpayer, I do have the right to demand that my government stop subsidizing regimes that abuse Gay persons. You do not have a right to my money, visas, and import preferences. You have to ask for them and make a case that you deserve my support. As of today, Zambia wants to throw all of my people in prison. Might I suggest that if Zambia chooses to keep its barbaric laws on the books, that you sell the rest of your nation to China.

  20. Please father, I know of another priest from Zambia, who has studied this issue better than you. He holds a PhD and is well respected in academic circles. He argues that gay rights are human rights to be defended. In case you dont know, you cannot stop the truth. You are on the bad side of history

  21. This battle is spiritual ephesians 6:10-17 and is targeted to keep nations under the kingdom of darkness, thank God Jesus Christ has already overcome on the cross of calvary and we know what the end result in revelation is, the war has already been won through Jesus Christ, Lord forgive Zambia for every door that has been opened to this abomination, we speak the blood of Jesus upon our nation, upon all Zambians ,on the blogs and on every thought and mouth that does not glorify God in the mighty name of Jesus to which every knee shall bow.

  22. We declare every intimidation upon Zambia and Zambians  nullified by the blood of Jesus and in the mighty name of Jesus. This is a test of your faith to prove whether Zambia indeed is a christian nation.God bless Zambia  and Zambians and may the Lord God strengthen every upright heart to stand and fight for the good cause of mother Zambia.

  23. what we should have come to understand by now is that the world is coming to an end. Whether we like it or not homo rights will one day be accepted and practiced openly.lets just work on our salvation and stop wasting time on things we can not prevent from happening.

  24. Desmond Tutu, the former Anglican Archbishop of Cape Town and a Nobel Peace Prize winner, has described homophobia as a “crime against humanity” and “every bit as unjust” as apartheid:”We struggled against apartheid in South Africa, supported by people the world over, because black people were being blamed and made to suffer for something we could do nothing about; our very skins. It is the same with sexual orientation. It is a given. … We treat them [gays and lesbians] as pariahs and push them outside our communities. We make them doubt that they too are children of God – and this must be nearly the ultimate blasphemy. We blame them for what they are.”
