The planned demonstration by women in the opposition movement for multi party democracy MMD has been suspended. This follows a court order obtained by the party to stay execution of the decision of the registrar of societies to deregister the party.
MMD national chairperson for women affairs Catherine Namugala disclosed this at a media briefing in Lusaka this afternoon.
Ms. Namugala said that  the women have decided to suspend the demonstration because they do not want to interfere with the court process.
She however stated that women in the party are still angry that the country’s democracy is being undermined.
Ms. Namugala has since called on Zambians to look beyond political affiliation and work to ensure that the country’s democracy is sustained.
MMD women had planned to demonstrate naked tomorrow following the deregistration of their party by the registrar of societies.
And Ms. Namugala has accused the media of twisting the issues surrounding their planned demonstration. She has refuted media reports that the women were planning to protest naked accusing the media of exaggeration.
The national chairperson for women affairs said that  a clear message can be put across without them being nude.

There was no need for, as reported, Namugala and company to protest naked over the de-registration of MMD. It was a known fact that the decision to de-register MMD would not hold for long, because the international community is also watching and wondering. The international community which has dealt with the MMD government for 20 years knows that de-registering MMD would be tantamount to undermining democracy in Zambia, which democracy has been espoused greatly, thanks to the MMD upon assuming power in 1991. In law, there is always consideration for the greater good. What real logic is there if there was to be held by-elections in 53 constituencies amount to maybe a third of the national budget, over a supposedly debt of K390million? Where would we get that unplanned for money? Dimwits.

So, the injunction has been granted, the next step is for the MMD to pay up during this period because when the execution of stay expires and they (MMD) are still at square one then the next stage would be to reaffirm the de-registration and the rest will be history. So, for Cathy and your friends, it is not time to celebrate it is time to go back to the same guys who were eager to see your nakedness (in public because that is illegal) and ask them to front you guys ZMK390 Million (in private) to pay up your debt. The circus needs to continue with the MMD, PF, UNPD and others in the Zoo.
