Government has welcomed the decision by the Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE) to drop secession calls and engage in dialogue on issues surrounding the Barotseland Agreement of 1964.

Home Affairs Minister, Kennedy Sakeni says the development is a big relief not only to government but to all peace loving Zambians.

Mr. Sakeni told ZANIS in a telephone interview in Lusaka today that government is happy with the development and commended the BRE for taking the stance.

He said the stance has been taken in the spirit of reconciliation and give and take which he said will promote peace and co-existence.

Mr. Sakeni noted that being confrontation would have resulted in the breakdown of communication between the two parties adding that this would have also led to lawlessness in the country.

The Minister has also commended the Ngambela, Clement Sinyinda, who he said is a good politician interested in peace.

Mr. Sakeni has since called for the use of dialogue in resolving contentious issues which he said will help in maintaining peace in the country.

He said it is the duty of all Zambians to help maintain the peace and stability the country has enjoyed since independence and promote co-existence.

Mr. Sakeni’s comment follows news that the Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE) has with immediate effect stopped any agitation for secession and has instead opted for dialogue with the Government in the interest of peace and national unity.

Ngambela Sinyinda is quoted to have said that the nation should brace for a “shocking” amicable settlement to the impasse that was created after the declaration of Western Province as an independent State last week.

The Barotse National Council (BNC) last week in Limulunga resolved that Western Province should secede from the rest of Zambia.

  1. Yaba. Look at those old men. The problem is not over until it is addressed. you are a shame Pf. We are looking at at you.

  2. I hope people will stop calling lozis names they are not selfish but people who are brave enough to stand for what they believe. I’m happy that they have put the country first and thanks mr president you opted for unexpected stance. I know you are a president for acts. Both parties please discuss and end this for ever, make a new contract which is modern enough for us all.

  3. Why lozi’s can make such a sudden U turn? I was looking forward divorcing my BRE wife because i dont like marrying foreigners. Also our domant soldiers would have practiced a ka friendly war instead of just slushing grass along burma road.

    • How did you get to the country you are in. You are a foreigner as well, I love my Lozi brothers and sisters; I shall develop western province then the east and the whole of Zambia.

  4. BRAVO BO NGAMBELA. Peace is not just good but a blessing which others else where are failing to have even if they’re rich. They fail to sleep in their own homes or countries leaving their wealth behind. Thanx again to the B.R.E. Shame to politicians who thought will gain support by fueling this.

  5. Disappointed cheerleaders with expectations of violence can meet me for some counselling. I work for free and listen sympathetically to all shrieks of outrage. Only homeopathic remedies offered as well as head massage, anger management groups and tribal sensitivity classes. The more hardcore will be provided with special rooms fitted with custom made foam walls for head bashing and punch bags. The lost causes can expect a real boxing ring with trained sparring partners. Offer open 24/7 and through public holidays. Dial 666 for the diametrically opposite treatment delivered by a well known fallen angel who wants failure.

  6. I have just heard on radio in monga the Ngambela refuting this statement which has been stage managed by medias.

He has insisted that he never said that, and that, the decision that was made at the BNC still stands and it is final.

Theeoplenof Barotseland are determined to reach the final of this matter.

Never again will people rape their children and kill there creed.

  7. Let us have some equal distribution of wealth in the country. The president should not manifest his selfish ego of only developng his strongholds. He is a presdent of even those who dont like him.

  8. This is cosmetic. Lets not welcome this so-called peace deal. Peace with who? Government should not be dragged to this so-called peace deal and later told that its not addressing their rights and what nonsennse. These Ngambela things should not be trusted. These guys are upto something. And if the governmnet thinks all is well then we shall be shocked one day. I can smell a rat here. The best is not to start dining with these Lozi thugs. If they want the government to start dialogue with them let them denounce the so-called Ngambela (PrimeMinister) as this is still treasonable. You cant have a prime minister (Ngambela) for western province and president (MCS) for Zambia. Sakeni should not dance to the tune of Silimba or fear maoma drums. Let the government not be fooled. I end here!

  9. God bless mother Zambia for peace and brotherly love that prevail on the land.
For sure we are coming home those of us who are in foreign land though somebody said we should not. Zambia is ours, home sweet home! God bless Gawa Undi,Kazembe,Litunga Mpezeni,Kanongesha,Musokotwane,Mushili,Nkomesha, and my old cousin Chitimukulu! Mfumu shesu!!

  10. Why were we made to believe that only BNC can decide when an individual can overturn. Let us help HE rule and develop the whole country .

  11. As much as we may see the BRE as the problem let us also accept that GRZ is also part of the problem. This place has only one road leading to Mongu-that for a place almost 1/3 of zed.Today no Lozi can even dream about becoming president of zed as they’re supposed to accept playing 2nd fiddle to others. If you expect others to make sacrifices for you then at some point you also have to make sacrifices for them otherwise your gain becomes a cursed gain as it is gotten from a use and dump mentality.

  12. wooooh!! where are the silly chaps who were trying to fan violence through this forum and watch dog? mwailasha!

  13. The truth is, the BRE mean well, but i doubt if Sata and PF have the credentials and capability to sort out the Barotse Agreemnet issue. Mark my words, this thing will not be resolved, it will end up in a stalemate.

  14. In the afternoon I was delighted to hear that our beloved Lozis we’ll not call for secession but that they would opt for dialogue. But I’m taken aback from what the watchdog has just published this evening. The watchdog says The Ngambela has not at all U-turned on his calls for secession: The BNC’s resolutions stand. So What’s the truth now??

  15. The Govt. should be transparent and cautious on what they negotiate and give or promise our countrymen in Western province. The fact that other provinces have not been agitating for secession does not mean that they are more developed. The stagnation of our economy for various reasons meant less money for development of provinces in general and rural areas in particular. This should be a solid negotiation mapping a way forward and not poor resources into one province to appease a few individuals. However, the Leaders of this movement should be congratulated for realizing that they should not plunge their province into chaos. Selfless and unity of purpose is one of the ingredients that will forster development in the country.

  16. We can all go back and start discussing development. This is welcome news from both sides that is government and the BRe. Both sides have ancient people that would have left us in turmoil.

  17. @ Nine Chale this is wonderful News just like when we won the Africa cup, Now I shall return to writing Biblical poetry again :).

  18. I hope only wise comments follow mine, not the Mundane non thinkers that make us true golden people look Myopic( Borrowing a word from senior citizen :)) lets move forward and develop MAMA Africa.

  19. Relief? Aw so the government were shitting in their pants all this time looks both were sizing each other. Uyoyange wino kaongolo ka nyambe

  20. Good evening

@ Mwanawakwitu, yes bro. the joy is simillar to what we felt when we lifted the Afcon trophy. BRE has done very well to drop the secession calls in the cause of peace and national unity.

In any case, the way to secession would have been nothing but a long, senseless bloodpath with no winners but only loosers.
The real loosers would have been the ordinary people of Western Province who care less about politics as long as they have food on the table. I really hope this is a turning point for the BRE and not just some tactic to manouevre their way back and revive things that are past and forgotten. Now the government should also ensure that it’s development programme is extended to Western Province so that there may never have an excuse for breaking away again.

  21. …In this modern era, Who wants to be ruled by a chief, anyway?Let me vote for my leader ,please and not impose one on me,dammit! We should learn to move with time, why should one family rule untill the end of time, it’s not like that single family enjoys a monopoly of knowledge!Mr.Presidente, please revamp the local government and discard those good for nothing chiefs, they are retarding the development…they are their to bewitch each other.Yes,I said it,I said it right here on LT!

  22. 22@ Mwanawakwitu & @24 Nina Chile..

Sorry gents. Your prayers did not come true. The story is a lie. The government media just made up this story

    • This is embarrassing for the media to outrightly ‘lie’. They are better than gobbels. Again this is not helping the matter, and is just rotating in lies, half truths, and dire insincerity which shall not gain any ground now nor in the future. Where are the genuine Zambian thinkers of the day?

  23. Ngongi ililile, the trumpet has been sounded and can be heard from Alaska to Australia, from Brazil to Russia, from Lesotho to Mexico and the USA. According to the Lozi tradition and policy no one, be it Litunga, Ngambela or Induna can change the resolutions of the deliberations made by the BNC, which is the will of the people. The Ngambela however, being the spokes person of Barotseland, Litunga and the people, can report or communicate with various media sources using his own language. He can dialogue with Zambia to ensure that new boundaries are not drawn by a bayonet and blood as ink on the new maps. Hence, we are happy that the Government of Zambia has welcomed dialogue in that regard. Let us continue to pray for peace, and learn to accept our core existence as two separate nations.

  24. To his credit, Zulu can shake, have you seen how he managed to create the illusion of a bulge on his left calf, better than jagger!

  25. Go lozis Go Gambela go the BNC go! Re return no surrender and nor giving up. One Zambia, One Nation, where all zambians are equal bofore the law, in governance and they way they are perceved by others.
BUT HEY, what about the latest release by the gambela denying this romour i am celebrating?

  26. The advantage of a peaceful break up is that Zambia will teach the rest of the world a fundamental lesson that difference of opinion does not always demand having to shade blood. We can agree to disagree. If Barotseland no longer wants to be part of Zambia for obvious reasons that we all know, being decieved by successive governments over the BA64, denial of development etc. why stop them. Let them go. There will be more than 73 tribes and dialects in each country. Don’t we have intermarriages with other countries apart from BL? Why should Barotseland intermarriages be more troubling. Let us part as friendly nations and be twin sister nations, cos we share so much of history. One Zambia one nation was a very good idea which the BA64 facilitated, but it was abrogated by Zambia not BNC

  27. Please we are manyukunyuku felas please Zambian soldiers get us if we bring disorder! One Zambia One Nation

  28. okay, so what about the other provinces? Should they all split and form indepedent countries? It’s not just Lozi who are marginalized, so are the Tongaz and the luvales. The true solution is federalization. Form states not this provinces BS which everytime you hear it reminds you of colonization? Declare zambia a federal state and these problems will go away eventualy.

  29. If wishes were horses beggars would ride on them. Still dancing only to be told that they were fooling themselves and it was all wishfull thinking from Times of Zambia to think that Sinyinda would ever think of changing what was decided by the superior BNC. Keep dreaming, Western province is now gone!!!

  30. I think it’s naive for the gambela to drop the separation call at this point. He should have brought the secession call to the negotiation table and only drop it when a, b, and c contentious issues have been met. That was a point of strength approaching the negotiation table but now he has disarmed himself and Bulozi. In contrast the other party has done nothing hetherto to show their commitment to resolving the impasse.

  31. This Lusaka Times is a shame of LIES. We want to hear from the Ngambela Sinyinda himself, not this LIES by Govt controlled media.
BNC’s resolution are final, LT stop with your Lies. The Ngambela can’t be a Dictator, he preaches Self Determination for Barotseland not your ill, malicious, anonymous and unsubstantiated allegations.
Zambian Watchdog is at Best because it is for uncensored media thats differiates truth/reality from lies/fake.
The Ngambela is a man of intergrity, so is Roger Chongwe, as the men of dilligency and truth.
Do not LT accusing the Ngambela, the LIES of BA 64 has brought us here, the Lies of this report.

  32. 92% of Zambian ministers are really retarded. The Editor of Times of Zambia or any TIMES should be fired & deleted. I know Sinyinda since he was a minister in diaspora-Zambia, there is no way he could withdraw his stance, he is a man of solid principles.

  33. I knew streiaght away when I saw the source as Times of Zambia that this was a bogus story. Anyone who understands the structure of governance in Barotseland would have known straight away that this was a made up story, possibly as a propaganda story from the Government of formerly Northern Rhodesia. Nice try Government! This is desperation at it’s lowest on their part.

My very first comment on LT on the issue was to wonder how BRE single-handedly can overturn the BNC? Again nice try, you should have come up with a better plot.

I thought their being silent was to come up with a better solution than half-baked propaganda stories.

Either this govt has no ‘answer’ or this Reporter must be fired for mistaking a Clement Simukonda from Mporokoso for Ngambela Sinyinda of Barotselan.

  35. #34 and #46-47 tomodochi Jigga, guys, this is 2012 by the way and not 1516 and so what you and i know is that some of the Lozi speaking peoples are more affluent and more of African than either Baroste or Zambian if you want to put it this way. To shock the world, and today to deny the Litunga of his powers and again to say the Ngambela has spoken his own language when in the near past we are told the Ngambela speaks on behalf of the litunga is worrying in the sense that even small chongololos will laugh at us as a people who are not serious with life. I am not any way near Lozi speaking but i have plenty of relatives by marriage who hail from western province and i for one would like to see development everywhere not just concentrated on the copperbelt and lusaka.

  36. I for one would like to see to it that a long lasting solution to transport, good and stable housing and revamping of dead industries are done in western province but you know guys, why do other chiefs in our country easily lease land for development while the litunga is waiting for God to speak to him. The problem am seeing is that the litunga is rapidly losing respect but IT MUST not be so because he is our God given leader and deserves respect. What the litunga must do is open up western province or else our people from that land will continue thinking they dont deserve any love and share of the national cake. We are to love one another and keep each other. I have respect for those galant Lozi speaking men serving Zambia in any capacity and to disturb them is RETROGRESSIVE.

  37. So we dont have any true stance on this matter. Let us define the physical boundaries of Barosteland and call all those within such a jurisdiction to voice up their concerns and make a clear statement on their stance, weather they want to split Zambia or not. For almost 50 years and i know its not only western province that looks horrible but many places let alone that some places do not have seasonal flooding which makes most of the habitable places in western prov look like a desert. can we have an economical plan for this strategic province, its near angola and so we can now open the west route thru angola, get cheap oil and export our products thru it. can we have the trans zambezi route from mwami to the last point in western province?

  38. Sorry guys, a news report on the Watchdog has rubbished the report from the Times of Zambia. The fight is on!

  39. BREAKING NEWSS!!!!!!! Kana Besa Mulopwe Mwine Lubemba Chiti Mukulu died yesterday at the renal clinic at UTH.He died of suspected kidney failure.

  40. Ba LT naimwe how can a private citizen (VJ Rigger) be ahead of you in breaking news of the passing of Chitimukulu?

  41. But the DOGS at the ZWD are barking that this is a lie.And is this why sakeni and his mate are dancing in the pic above?look at the guy in-between behind them,he must have been thinking…..DELETED.

  42. @Mushe, No. 28:
Yes, relief! Every patriotic and peace loving Zambian would feel relief because prosecuting the secession demand to its end would inevitably entail bloodshed – and who knows how much bloodshed and for how long? The Government has acted very responsibly by practising restraint. A government that cares about its people would naturally be worried when faced with similar demands as the one made by the BRE/BNC and would express relief when those demands were dropped. In my view, it does not mean that the government was scared but rather that the government cares and was worried about the lives and well being of all its citizens.
Let us not be flippant about grave matters!

  43. @16 and other bloggers who are saying it should now be the turn for Tonga’s or Lozi to be president. Please educate me, Is there a supreme being/institution which determines who becomes president of Zed? As far as I know there is no law in Zambia that says that only a certain tribe will lead us. If there is please show me.

  44. IT SEEMS MY LINK TO THE SATA IN BOTSWANA RECORDING HAS NOT BEEN UPLOADED, SHAME ON YOU BA LT, SHAME ON YOU!!!!

  45. All this is a cheap propaganda from the toothless Kennedy Sakeni to mislead the nation. There is no goinig back baolwestan, a luta cntinua. It only shows how cabint is shitinig there pants n over the BA. How can someone who talking about treason yesterday talk about treason, If treason has been committed by the BRE/BNC why not go ahead to prosecute theem? Look at Ukwa who speaks careselly and very fast. Why is he silent over BA today after a week old in the counryy? Uzayonda ukwa, usasila, na prostitute cancer aya.

  46. Well, Zambians should learn a very big lesson to what happened in Mali last week when the entire northen part of the country was overun by Toureg rebels. We have no army or police force to talk about in Zambia. The police are a bunch of s.e.x crazy lunatics who would have been caught busy pants down had those Lozis decided to fight fire with fire, I mean look at the number of pregnancies they left behind? I just wish the BNC also demanded that the GRZ collects these undesirable products of theirs once they drop from Lozi wombs. With the army, its worse, remember how the rg-tags of Siera Leone’s Foday Sankoh captured an entire Zambian battalion and decapiated it? Before Sata declares anyone to be in a weak position, he better check his facts!
