Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Zambia Chapter says opposition political have a valid point by complaining that the media in the country has not covered the setting up of the tribunal to investigate alleged misconduct of the 3 Judges extensively and in an objective manner.

MISA chairperson Daniel Sikazwe has told journalists at a media briefing that the media in the country seems to have given prominence to the state when covering issues related to the tribunal.

Mr. Sikazwe says the media should strive to give people of divergent views an equal opportunity to express themselves and ensure that such views are reported in a factual manner.

He has also urged the journalists covering the tribunal proceedings to ensure that they present facts to the public as well as observe high ethical standards.

Last week opposition political parties presented a petition to MISA on the manner in which the media in the country has continued to be biased in the coverage of issues relating to the suspension of the 3 court judges by president Sata.

And Mr. Sikazwe has also urged the government to quickly amend the ZNBC and Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) Acts and bring back a provision that will allow for the independent appointing committee that will appoint boards for ZNBC and IBA.

Meanwhile, Mr. Sikazwe has vowed to ensure that the MISA National governing council ensures that individuals who harass journalists are brought to book.

He says time has come for the media to stop the harassment that journalist continue to be subjected during the course of their duty.

  1. today we has all news and so far pf government has been covering all political parties and imagine time of MMD pf government was not covered we just used to read in post news paper

  2. When the news is one sided is REALLY boring. (Times, dairly,Post)Singing the same chorous!!! Boring!!!!!!!!!!

  3. The opposition has lost it, they should sit down and read ” OPPOSITION POLITICS FOR DUMMIES”  by King Cobra, maybe they will learn something. You cannot tell a journalist what he or she has to publish, that is interfering in the media and Sikazwe should know better. You can never let a politician dictate what you write or report, that is censorship, and the MMD messed up the media with politicians editing the government papers. If the opposition wants another view, why don’t they tell their views to one of  the tabloids or print there own paper to feature their opinions?. Injunction to MISA? Printing and selling a paper is business and you cannot tell a free person how they  should run a business.

  4. This certainly does not apply to ZNBC. I think they are getting it right. advice to opposition is that they equally need media advirors. they should not dwell on controversies expecting to be covered. Sobriety is required at all times; and that way, they make life easier for all media. you cannot insult and expect to be covered simply becuase your viewpoint must be heard.
