Information, broadcasting and Labour Minister Fackson Shamenda has lashed out at civil servants for organising unnecessary workshops in order to profit from allowances.
He also says many civil servants are in the habit of doing piece works in order to get allowances a thing the minister says will not be tolerated in the PF government.
Mr. Shamenda who is also government spokesperson also referred to a scenario where several Permanent secretaries would jot down presidential script and pretend to be working.
He disclosed that President Sata did not read the Labour Day speech that had been jotted for him but preferred reading a speech prepared by his press aid George Chellah.
Mr Shamenda says the PF government style of leadership meant hard work and not a lazy attitude towards work.

Pay the civil servants well so that they stop looking everywhere for allowances or some projects just to suppliment there efforts to put bread on the tables. The International Labour Organisation talks of Decent Work and this also includes decent pay. So address the major problem of low salaries instead of just talking as if you didn’t work for the Trade Unions and were fighting for workers rights.
increase salaries to K2,500,000 lowest paid civil servant then ba PF
He disclosed that President Sata did not read the Labour Day speech that had been jotted for him but preferred reading a speech prepared by his press aid George Chellah.
the statement above is of concern, how does Chella prepare a speach on labour matters and not the PS of MoL. Shamenda you are telling the public that your govt does not respect professionals and that is supposed to be good news or sign of hard work? What a shame… Shamenda you are for sure worse than Ron Shikapwasha.
Pay us better, you two-faced so-and-so. It is quite disappointing, now that you are in government Mr Shamenda, how you have even gone mute and are NOT doing what you are supposed to be doing, i.e. looking out for the interests of the Zambian worker. Mark my words, your boss is headed for a Sarkozy-style exit come 2016 and you?l be unemployed. We need people who are serious about making this country the prosperous nation my parents keep talking about, were our Kwacha was trading at 1:1 with the US $. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH, we refuse to be taken for granted. No more!!
Iwe Annette, salaries were never designed to make anyone “comfortable” except of course in Zed we decided to use it as a weapon of mass subjugation. Once we realize a salary is a starting point our entrepreneurial spirits will soar. Just look around at the people branching out on their own and the successes they derive. That should be the rallying call and not this nonsense of forever trying to steal and justifying the theft with low salary! Scapegoats everywhere, no wonder the grass never turns green!
Governemnt hardly funds workshops. They’re mostly donor funded. Government just funds salaries and operation costs. MoF hardly approves budgets for workshops. Civil servants plan these workshops approach interested donors and, there…
Shamenda Shamenda, that is not the way to treat civil servants, you will not achieve anything as PF without them, worse still if you repalce them with PF cadres..
The Minister has a point here. Most Civil servants just want to go to Livingstone and others cities just lazing around and claim a salary at the end of the month.
Pf Government must come up with a lean Civil Servant structure so that money is saved.Too many civil servants lazing around will mean more tax to be paid by us in the private sector who are struggling to make ends meet.Only real jobs must be maintained.
The illiterate ministers in this PF dull government are sickening. If this dull minister bans conferences, then lodges will close and unemployment will rise and these former workers will convert into armed robbers. Mr dull minister, the work of government is to redistribute wealth. Both Friedman and Keynesian economists agree on the need for government to spend to keep the economy healthy. Government is the biggest customer in any country. Anyway, you are just applying Ukwanomics I guess
SPOT ON
So this Shame -nda is telling us the PSs his boss appointed are not working? this govt is really confused and they don’t know what they are doing. How do you motivate your workers if you always talk trash them in public. Shame really!
Easy for you to say that with your newly acquired comfortable position and government footing all your expenses. Do us a favor and shut the f@ck up. We know what a broke a$$ you were some months back. You have been redeemed simply for associating with the PF!
Government offices are over employed, Automate their work and layoff these lazy people. We can save money for the Government for proper service delivery to our people. Just hate the attitudes of Government workers, especially passport offices, NRCs etc.
Pay them well
Work hard gentlemen! You cry for these jobs knowing very well what they are worth! Be sharp, don’t misuse tax payers money by moonlighting during your working hours that is theft bamambala! There is no harm mr minister in people taking extra pay from other jobs as long as it is outside of government time. One job and one salary is never gonna be enuff!
Olo iwe a Shamenda mwenze ku China last week. If it is your civil servants you accuse them of seeking tu ma allowances.
