Lusaka Province Police commanding Officer Charity Katanga: No arrest were made,  police deployed in time to keep law and order.

The University of Zambia -UNZA Students on Tuesday night staged a demonstration over the delayed opening of the campus.

The students trooped to the Greats East Road where they set ablaze tyres and firewood thereby closing the road.

Armed Police officers were quickly deployed to prevent motorists from using the Great East Road.

Police officers had a tough time  putting out the fires from the burning tyres and logs.

The fire Brigade were later called and managed to put out the fires. The situation was only brought under control after 22:00 hours.

A ZNBC News crew that rushed to the Great East Road Main campus found the students had retreated into the campus after noticing heavy Police Presence.

And Lusaka Province Police commanding Officer Charity Katanga says no arrests were made and that police were deployed in time to keep law and order.

And University of Zambia Students Union Publicity Secretary Thelma Zimba says they are incensed because government has remained mute over UNZA Management decision to postpone the opening date.

Zimba says the delayed opening will affect their calendar because some of them are supposed to enroll at Ziale and the school of medicine.

She has warned that students want an explanation as to what has led to the postponement of the opening date because they were not consulted.

  1. KILL OUT PF, TELL THEM TO RESIGN, YOUR UNZASU IS CORRUPT! WAKE UP AND LIVE TO REALITY THAT U HAVE A GON’GA GOVT

  2. Ba monk naba moma bola Panshi….. PF wants to sort out your problems left by the corrupt movement of mad dogs once & for all.

  3. Under the great leadership of the two graduates at the helm of the MMD,  our party never closed UNZA indefinitely. This only happened when MMD had the bad elements  which, thankfully ,  left the party and congregated in the Kaponyas party called PF which does not even value education whatsoever. After all it is the street Kaponyas, Kadobis, Kabudos, N’gwag’wazis, Gonenas,  jerabos and whatever you call them who voted them into power. To them  it is ” what is UNZA and what do those people do anyway?”

All the best UNZA on this one and good luck because you need all the luck you can get on this one with this Party.

    • A Greek philosoher ance said; ‘let the rezult of your axion excuze you’, or somthing like that. The anger and grief of the unexpected trouncing of the MMD, and single handedly by the people of Zambia and Sata’z PF for that matter after 20 comlplecant yearz in power, will alwayz forgive you. To me you sound like somebody who can otherwize be a very objctive and relevant citizen.

    • You have continued to cry over spilled milk. Wake up man because Sata and the PF have the next 5 years whether you like it or not. I believe you still have some wisdom to contribute objectively to the well being of our country. We have to agree to disagree with Sata and his PF but surely, you cannot continue crying and habouring hatred, for serve for giving you a heart attack, it will not take you anywhere.

  4. Zambians are traditionally very easy to handle but too sophisticated if you want to misrule them by thriving on lies, threats, macabre tactics and divisive tribalist agenda that marginalize them based on regional routes and not professional prowess.

  5. What you conveniently forget, Mr. Chief Bootlicker, is that we ng’wang’wazis and kaponyas are products of your discriminatory elitist education system, which you used to perpetrate your animal farm-style class society which refused to acknowledge our presence and provide for us to up-grade to your social classes until we grew in numbers and out-voted you who thought the country would always belong to your some-of-us attitude. You thought that having an education meant you could call others dull or stupid or something equally discriminatory. Well, the chickens have come home to roost. By the way, I also once belonged to that social class and I chose to side with the people.

    • Well said @payback time. And you can’t be anymore clearer. I hope Chief Bootlicker will take something from your eloquent contributions. Most of us opted to live the so called social class to go and side with people where our families and friends were, because we became fed up of the elitist corruption coupled with the muzungu wanga syndrome. Chief Bootlicker is probably a product and beneficially of the corrupt elements of the MMD.

  6. If all you can offer is a Gong’a Government, then expect problems too ponderous in magnitude. A critical mass will exponentially grow against you such that it will systematically overwhelm and overtake you. Having a daft defense minister who is just reactionary daily insulting Zambian mothers, youths and traditional rulers he is landing curses from thinking he could panel beat them into submission to CNP, is a joke of the century.

  7. If and only if, these CNP could make Zambian start realizing some equity from their vast natural resources, start offering direction to the country with plans on fiscal and monetary policies, industrialization, education, Agriculture, democracy, constitutionalism, foreign policy, professional public service, media freedom, devolution of Government powers, national unity, youth unemployment and many more, they would not be dangerously dreaming of all these macabre options against opponents in a democracy which stand to burn them down.

  8. Proverbs 29:18 “Where there is no vision, the people perish”:CNP
Google it “German Newspaper Describes Sata’s Zambia as “Birth of a Dictatorship”
This well chronicled article delivers an executive summary on the Zambian CNP modrn day Pharoah.

  9. #8 Payback

So what is you point? You want to make the whole country illiterate and classless so we can all be Kaponya street vending in every street in Zambia?  So by closing institution of high learning you want everybody to just waste time in the street and you call that payback time?

Well Good luck to you too with that Agenda. Maybe, just maybe  you are after all not CNP, but your plans are scarring the day lights out of some of us

    • MMD Chief Bootlicker epowaba iwe chikamba! taumfwika ninshi uleumfwika mwaiche iwe.

  10. “Education is our only political safety. Outside of this ark all is deluge.”
but who am i telling like they will listen.what is happening in zambia today is like in a new relationship all is good in the first days until you start to know your other halfs true colours.

  11. Proverbs 29:2  “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.

It is time to mourn in our nation, for wicked men are ruling and turning God’s wisdom upside down. How can God’s saints rejoice, when they see equity, righteousness, truth, and wisdom compromised and corrupted on a daily basis? King Solomon, writing to his son as a future king of Israel, made this observation and rule about political policy. The good people of any nation are seriously affected by the morality of their rulers today donating US $50 Million our maize to prop up dictatorship while farmers are going unpaid on their produces?

  12. Evidenced from these unpatriotic PF fanatics, the wicked love wicked rulers, for they promote and protect their sins. These amoral fanatics have proved to love and do love pathological liars and profane rulers. King Solomon taught his son godly motivation by looking out for noble citizens and honoring them with transfer of power from the waked misruling and ruining the country faster than they found it.

  13. #4 and # 6 you two were the most vocal of all movement of mad dogs before elections and you told us that the PF will never form Government. You continue barking while the government is busy cleaning the Sh.it you left. It was not heard of at UNZA someone paying to chahnge grades. Corrupt party to the core

  14. now they are making MMD and RB look good. i feel convinced that zambian political picture has be changed to suit the needs of PF and not for the zambians

  15. Zambians are sinking in deep historic crisis after another while the CNP family tree is too busy galavanting aimlessly around the would spending US$ 2 million per day. They think all these challenges can be addressed killing opponents and patriots. Those PF in the boat are unpatriotic CNPs. Zambians are true to their quest for a bright future of their country and impossible to forcefully panel beat into submission of CNP.

  16. When we were students at that great University, baMonko nabaMoma ukubikapo nabaBungwe were extremely militant and radicle! You cant have a Viva for 1hour and just a few tear smokes you ran away! Stand your ground nokuiponona bad naba police! Just a little bit of pressure and you will see how your problems will be solved!

  17. i remember in 1997 UNZA closed for once complete academic year and 4 years earlier it had happened and that’s how up to date the institution has never recovered the synchronized system with other institutes in the region. who was in power then?

  18. under the MMD govt, unza closed more than 10 times than the kaunda regime. lets not forget that easily. if chaps like late mwanawasa were part and parcel to the continued rot, we will still call a spade a spade. the MMD simply eroded the little sup that remained and more than 400 lecturers have since left the institution, not in the past 9 months but between 1991 and 2011 august. who was ruling by then?

  19. My friends you [yes you] can howl all you want but your dear corrupt master Ala Bee will never ever return, those merry days of pampering, plunder and gluttony are long gone and will never return. Your loud sustained doleful sound is nothing but a mere annoyance to bloggers who want to read objective comments on this thread.

  20. @Zero Option. Well said! Unless you want to twist facts you cannot lie that closures at UNZA are because of the PF GVT. These closures have been going on for a long time. What we need now is to find a long term solution to this problem and not finger pointing.

  21. Senior Citizen & MMD Chief Bootlicker are just like Zambia Watch Dogs and HH. They are too bitter to make any sense.

  22. Wapya munzi. Politicians and there misplaced priorities. I wish these guys had a heart for my beloved institution, the University of Zambia.

  23. SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT
    ===========================

    1) Under UNIP led by KK Unza closed down for Political reasons for a number of times, certainly less than during MMD reign

    2) Under MMD led by the late FTJ with SATA as a senior party member and advisor to the President , UNZA closed down more than 10 times for political reasons

    3) Under MMD with LPM as leader and without SATA in the party UNZA never closed down

    4) Under MMD with RB as president and again without SATA UNZA never closed down for political reasons

    5) Under PF with SATA as president, and less than a year in power  both UNZA and CBU have experienced indefinite closures, though CBU just reopen

Those who are called quants , there are the numbers for you to work with.

  24. Here’s hardworking tax payer trying to get home to Chelston from town, and he can even use the road freely because “kids” from the highest institution of learning in the country are behaving like hooligans!!! And we expect to develop!!!

  25. I am a german by origin but feel Zambia at heart not just becoz of my love for chipolopolo or for my Lamba wife but also becoz I witnessed serious closures of both CBU and my beloved UNZA, where I was a student from 1987 under KK to 1993 under FTJ, long before PF was born. I can also speak Tonga, Nyanja and Bemba. Bembas say ‘ uushisenda mutembo wamunankwe no wake wine upokwa’, meaning ‘if u do not help others carry their heavy burdens they will take away your bag of sweet’ this is what happened in 2011, I agree with u pay back time no.8 and zero option no.23/24. To be fair with the cobra govt. they have inherited big problems created by both UNIP and MMD and it will take time and patience from us Zambians to correct them, including university issues

  26. when I returned to Zambia to work for the ministry of education in the rural areas of zed 1999-2004 there still were violent and bloody clashes between police and students, with loss of lives. we should not forget that all these problems have been due to the fact that imperialists did not do enough for the local Zambians so not one single person or govt should be pointed out as responsible for the entire history of Zambia, therefore to sort them out we need collective responsibility and a mature president like SATA is a vital factor, he already is involving opposition political parties, this is key even here in the so called ‘developed world.’ I love Ziiiii.

  27. Sad state of affairs indeed how can one quantify University closures under a catchy headline pertaining to set the record straight and forget to explain the all important reasons for those closures under those respective regimes.

  28. did you ever think this PF govt would bring any change when ukwa has never tasted UNZA nelt or LT1 hahahahahahaa

  29. This country will take a u-turn development wise if PF continues with Dochi Kubeba approach to important matters of the nation. It is clear most of the Ministers in this govt fall far below the minimum standard to help MCS to govern this nation. How I wish Sata could also look on the far left and ask UPND and MMD to help help on a number of issues. It is clear his team is not a winning team. Asking Chipimo to help is fine too but he has no following to draw autheticity from.
