The crime wave is still haunting residents of Lusaka’s Matero constituency barely two weeks after NIPA Student Ruth Mbandu was brutally murdered in the same constituency.

This time around in Matero East a twenty-seven year old woman, Sharon Tembo, was discovered dead with her throat slit open, prompting residents’ outcries on lack of police patrols.

The residents are unhappy with the increasing crime in the area calling on the police top command to intensify night patrols.

Recently Matero Member of Parliament, Miles Sampa offered 15 Million Kwacha to anyone with information leading to the arrest of slain NIPA Student Ruth Mbandu’s killers.

She was brutally murdered in Emmasdale in Matero Constituency, a compound known for sophiscated crime.

And in a fresh development, A 27 year old woman of Matero Township in Lusaka has been murdered in unclear circumstances as she was coming from her hair salon around 22.00 hours on Saturday night.

Both the father to the deceased, Damson Tembo and Police Spokesperson Charity Chanda confirmed the incident in Lusaka yesterday saying police have arrested her husband as the murder suspect.

Sharon Tembo is believed to have been killed around 22.00 hours near her home when she was coming from her salon and managed to enter the house and lay on the bed after which she told her husband to take her to the clinic.

Police confirmed that the husband to the victim had been charged with murder in relation to the unclear circumstances of the killing.

“We have arrested the husband to the victim whose name we are withholding and charged him with murder,” said Ms Chanda.

The father to the victim said he received a call around 23.00 hours from the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) that her daughter had been taken there with injuries and later around 23.30 hours while on the way to the hospital he received another call informing him that she had died.

“When I reached the hospital they showed me the body of my daughter which was at the Brought In Dead (BID) section and after checking it, I saw that she had a wound on the forehead as if she was hit with a metal bar and she also had a deep cut in the neck,” Mr Tembo said.

He said according to the information that was given to him by a named friend to her slain daughter, Sharon had knocked off from her workplace (salon) and entered the house with her handbag and other parcels she was carrying.

Upon entering the house, she went straight to the bedroom where she lay on the bed before telling her husband to take her to the clinic because she was bleeding profusely from the neck.

“The husband and his uncle carried her from the house and they were met outside by a friend to the victim who was passing by and helped the two gentlemen to put Sharon in the taxi and took her to Matero Referral clinic (Chingwere clinic),” narrated Sharon’s father.

Mr Tembo said the friend told him that they were referred to UTH and that Sharon was declared dead upon arrival.

Meanwhile, Matero Member of Parliament Miles Sampa has appealed to the police high command in the province to pay extra attention to Matero constituency and protect the residents of the area.

“I am appealing to the police high command to continue with their good work but add a little more effort to curb crime in the area. It is not acceptable to have murders every week for the past four months,” Mr Sampa said.

He appealed to energetic Matero residents to volunteer as neighbourhood watch association members and help supplement the work of the police in the area.

The MP said neighbourhood watch associations should be resuscitated in all the five wards in Matero.

“We are resuscitating the neighbourhood watch associations and I am appealing to the young men with energy to come and register at the constituency office and after that the volunteers will have to be cleared by the police to avoid harbouring criminals in the associations,” he said.

Recently a 19 year old Ruth Mbandu, who was a National Institute for Public Administration (NIPA) student was murdered in cold-blood on July 13, 2012 and had her face ripped off by her assailants.

Already police have charged three people with murder namely, George Kalomo, her uncle, of Kabanana Township, Archbishop Evans Ngulube 48, of New Mount Zion Spirit Church and his recently arrested driver, Stanley Munkonji.

Others were two men from Kanyama who were found in possession of the victim’s phone and had been detained in custody to help police with further investigations.

  1. What is happening pa Zed…… I guess we have enjoyed seeing Zambians labeled well behaved peaceful people for too long and now that poverty levels are too high its beginning to show its manifestation….its sad…. we bloggers intellectually criticize each other and the government forgetting the majority Zambians are poor and now we won’t be safe anymore with our so called intelligence. The gap majority of the poor has increased and survival through crime seems to be the only channel and name of the game available. What are we going to do!!

  2. We are not talking about how handsome some one is but the Death a a very important soul.  Geoerge Mpobo what ever your name do you wish people to talk about what u have said on the brutal death of your relation or yourself?  Lets think about our postings before we submit them because some is grieving over this death. Lets offer solutions to this problem instead.

  3. People of Matero have themselves to blame when it comes to crime. If yr neighbor looks suspicious, report them to the police. If a suspicious person in standing idle around your neighberhood, ask them what they want. 22 hrs in our neighborhoods people are indoors or are using cars to move. Copy from us. But you people torerate criminals. You live with them, you know them.

  4. we Zambians are good pipo,i think we have a lot foreigners now in this country they are bring all this sort of devil things with magic we need immigration agently pls

    • gabino you are right.zambians are not known for such criminal acts but these foreigners that are flocking into the conutry.we have so many foreigners opening up grocery shop all over lsk city.many of them perform rituals in order to get rich fast.zambians lets fight agaist these odds and protect our country.

  5. Lero kwafa nkhalamba mawa fisi (chimbwi) akunya imvwi. Wadya nkhalamba ndani? An old man goes missing and two days later a hyena’s dung is full of grey hair. Who ate the old man? PF begins to rule. Mysterious deaths multiply with no any arrests countrywide after serious accusations of PF Post involvement in SatAnism was publicly aired by Chanda Chimba. Should we stil pretend that PF is innocent? Satan kills.

  6. She got home, went in, streight to the bedroom, lay on the bed, then asked her husband to take her to the clinic coz she was bleeding from the neck?!? I am not very intelligent, but this doesn’t make any sense at all! There is something missing apa!

  7. After 20 September 2011, crime has seen an upward spiral. Be careful dear Zambians with the type of people you elect into govt. Some of them are in a pact with the devil. What with cobras as idols! You know people by their fruits! Just look at the nepotism, tribalism, regionalism , mass deaths and grizzly murders! The devil and his followers in govt are having a good time!

  8. People stop moving around at night. All concerned should adjust the time of knocking-off to avoid losing more lives. There are alot of savages around who find pleasure in terminating lives of innocent people.

  9. What do you expect when you have pardoned over 3000 criminals on the streets with no monitouring process of these thugs its money for them

  10. Learn to find sustainable solutions, what will “people stopping moving at night” do to stop crime. Sometimes you just have to move at night due to circumstances beyond your control. Let the government conduct a quick research as to what are the main causes of crime in the area and address them sustainably. Matero is well known for serious crime and harbours the worst criminals, hence the more reason for sustainable action to bring this to a stop. Neighbourhood watch is just a short term solution, Miles should institute a research to find out why crime is rampant in his constitutuency and avoid top dressing solutions. Having done a thorough research, you will be surprised things that will come out.

  11. #8 and 10 it does not mean if u re Tonga and UPND should stop thinking with yr brain. Metero is well known for all sorts of crime even during Kaundas time. Saying this started after PF came into power SATANism is really being battocks like Mwanawasa likened you. Let us offer solution to the problem at hand and not engage in politics of tribe, bitterness and hatred.

    • you are a real Tonga hater ka?? hahahahahaa, #8 and #10 attack a party and you attack a tribe including Brian Hapunda who is a Tonga PF and many of my tonga PF and tonga MMD friends. you are also  engaging in politics of tribe, bitterness and hatred just from your blog, as you are the first one to bring in issues of tribe.

  12. #4 A Matero thug killing another Matero resident is no poverty matter at all, it’s just criminal and babaric. Otherwise these murderers would have been terrorising Kabulonga, Roma, Chadleigh and other “affluent” areas.

  13. “Sharon Tembo is believed to have been killed around 22.00 hours near her home when she was coming from her salon and managed to enter the house and lay on the bed after which she told her husband to take her to the clinic” …..

This quotation is indicative of very low levels of reporting. It reads as if Sharon was firstly killed and then she still managed to enter her home. Rest in peace Sharon and I hope they catch the killer(s) soon. It would also appear as if the husband was only arrested because ‘the circumstances of the killing were unclear’ That is no reason to arrest anyone. Look for proper evidence.
