The Pentecostal Assemblies of God (PAOG) has strengthened its resolve to upholding the death penalty in the draft constitution. Speaking at a press briefing today, PAOG Chief Bishop Harrison Sakala said this was in view of the increased brutal murders in the country.

He said life was sacred and it was unfortunate that in a Christian nation, people should be murdered in brutal ways.

He cited an example of the a NIPA student Ruth Mbandu who was murdered and had her facial skin peeled off while her eyes and ears were plucked out in what was suspected to be a ritual killing.

Bishop Sakala urged law enforcement agencies to ensure that all the culprits are brought to book.

He further called on the church to pray even more in times of such murders so that the ‘flaming darts of the devil’ are quenched.

He also urged the church to pray against road traffic accidents which have been on the increase in the country.

The bishop said the church strongly held that all human life is sacred and that was why it did not condone taking of life even through abortion.

Bishop Sakala said life begins immediately at conception and that it should be protected even before it is brought into the world.

He expressed disappointment that abortions are taking place in a Christian nation like Zambia.

He was reacting to reports that an international organization, Marie Stops, has been conducting illegal abortions in Muchinga and Northern provinces.

  1. If you understand where he is coming from, some accidents are an orchestration of the spiritual forces of evil, that satanic “ritualists” use to make human sacrifices.

You can also pray so that drivers and other road users are alert at all times, and avoid driving while drunk, avoid speaking on the mobile phones while driving, avoid texting, twitting and using facebook while at the wheel. In other words, you can pray so that the road users consciences become conscious, as a result become responsive and responsible.

  2. #2 I agree with you in what you have said. Now Zambia as a christian nation as it was declared does not mean that every Zambian is christian. So many citizens will practice what ever they believe, with regards to death penalty thats a tricky one, If they claim to be christian as they say am sure their Bible does not condone death penalty, revange is for the lord and besides do they have 100% proof that the person about to be hunged, stoned or cut throat was the person who commited the murders

  3. just jail murderers for life and throw away the key. That way they will live to feel the pain of their evil deeds! And by the way which scriptures are you using to advocate for murder? Christians, my foot!

  4. A murderer will lose nothing when he is executed. He will feel the punishment if he is imprisoned for ever

  5. What happened to the commandment of God “thou shall not kill”? PAOG is using emotions when they are supposed to uphold the world of God.

  6. Thats the way to to ba Bishop,i dont expect to be using tax payers money to feed murderers like those who murdered the NIPA student, the money shud at least be used to buy madecines in hospitals instead of buying food in prisons.

  7. Hahahaha
How can someone, the leader of the churches no less, say in the same statement that all life is sacred but some prisoners must also be killed. Completely absurd. Simple statements like ‘life begins at conception’ do not belong in a constitution. That atwo day old zygote has as much a right to life as the woman carrying it has terrible implications. Does it mean that a woman impregnated by rape is committing murder by aborted the unwanted foetus?

    • rape or not abortion is murder there is no two ways about it. yes its painful conceiving under such circumstances but sin is sin

  8. Mushe #3 unfortunately the Bible condones vengeance, an eye for an eye, therefore, death for death. The Bible paints the picture that God supports his chosen people whenever they take revenge. The Koran too. David slayed Goliath because God was on the small man’s side. Imagine! So God takes sides! Some guy called Samson killed 3,000 Phillistines with God’s blessings of course. The Middle-Eastern religions emphasise people’s differences and thus fuel wars rather than peace. Because of this kind of vengefulness the middle east war will never end.

    • Christ called for those that needed a physician. Sinners need the Word of God. Drunkards and sinners are sinners.

  9. What scripture is this Bishop citing? Kiling ba Bishop is sin against God. The word of God allows punishment on a siner or muderer. The mudderers should just be jailed for life so that they feel the punishment. Remember Bishop “THOU SHALL NOT KILL” but thou shall punish…amen.

  10. Chief Bishop Harrison Sakala how different in terms of wickedness is death penalty from abortion since both are abt taking the sacred human life? No man shld condemn fellow humans 2 death.

  11. I MAY BE IN SUPPORT OF THE DEATH PENALTY. HOWEVER, “He also urged the church to pray against road traffic accidents which have been on the increase in the country.” PRAYING FOR THE ROAD ACCIDENTS TO STOP WILL BE AN EFFORT IN FUTILITY. JEHOVAH HELPS THOSE WHO HELP THEMSELVES. THERE MUST BE GOOD DUAL CARRIAGE ROADS, DRIVING LESSONS MUST BE LIKE THAT OF THE UK- FIRST WRITTEN TEST AND THEN PRACTICALS, VEHICLES FOR PUBLIC TRANSPORT MUST BE WELL DESIGN DESCENT BUSES SERVING THAT PURPOSE AND NOT LORRIES/TRUCKS, GOOD ROAD NET WORKS, WELL TRAINED PASSENGER DRIVERS, STRINGENT AND EFFICIENT LAWS FOR OFFENDERS, ETC.

  12. CAMERAS ARE NOW CHEAP. ZAMBIA NEEDS A SURVEILLANCE SOCIETY. ALL PUBLIC PLACES AND BUSINESSES MUST BE ASKED BY LAW TO INSTAL CAMERAS ROUND THEIR PREMISES, ROADS MUST HAVE CAMERAS AT CRUCIAL POINTS, THERE MUST BE STREET LIGHTS, FOR THOSE WHO CAN AFFORD-DOMESTIC HOME SHOULD HAVE CCTV. TECHNOLOGY IS NOT FOR UK, USA, CHINA JAPAN, THE TIGER COUNTRIES. IT HAS NOW BECOME A NECESSITY IN SOCIETIES.

  13. Christ called for those that needed a physician. Sinners need the Word of God. Drunkards and sinners are sinners. So people type wisely.

  14. @#3 I agree with you,no more revange, that,s for old testment, now christ has died for us and take revanges on him.All of us we have sined aganest God,let God him self judge and revange is for him.

  15. Everyone asking the chief bishop for supporting death sentence, read the bible well. The ten command were put in place for creating a society with order and harmony and dealing with people making society inhabitable. That’s the principle behind the 10 commandments you are singing about not to promote disorder and lawlessness as you people suppose. Stop being experts on things you don’t understand well. Leaders are there to lead well and the bible commands every perpetrator to respect the laws of the land.
    Leave the bishop alone

  16. @Peter you are right. God gave us the intelligence to use and prevent some of these things. They are not spiritual some of them. If you keep a drum of petrol in a grass hut and you use candlestick and/or katolitoli as you enter your ka hut while drunk. Or you keep knives loosely and carelessly even on the floor and your baby is crawling what do you expect? Why do we have Engineers I ask? OUR ROADS NEED IMPROVEMENT!

  17. It is important that we improve our roads by making multi lane and dual carriage highways. Inside a township the roads must have paving for cyclists and pedestrians separate from the motor vehicle roads. And heavy duty vehicles ought to have their own routes. Designers of towns twapapata wake up. In Zed people don’t do things with a future outlook. I can build a house 2 meters from the highway!

  18. Just by good road designs, great road construction and good driving skills, observance and enforcement of rules and regulations we can do more to prevent accidents than prayer as the pastor is alleging. Get me right. God listens and can help us. But He has already helped us a lot by giving us brains to do what we can first. Some things are about logic and are not spiritual mwe bantu. KEEP PRAYING THOUGH.

  19. It is true that God plays a large part in our lives, however, we must not neglect our responsibilities as human beings. This is why we don’t use our head to walk, and our feet to think.

Selfishness on the part of road users is the main cause of road traffic accidents. The guilty ones are the motorists – drivers!

As for road infrastructure, one could not agree more with the aforesaid.

  20. Life is precious and sparing it gives room for someone to repent if the Lord makes a way for them. I feel life sentence is better than killing criminals

  21. Amazing! Sometimes it is a definite really practical information sites We have ever occur all around using this topic area. Essentially Awesome. We are yet another practitioner on this topic i really can easily know your energy.

  22. A serious deficiency of intellectual humility! Why not let the men and women who possess legal knowledge to lead the way? Wide consultation always prevents us from being reactionary!! Back to the drawing board please!!
