Christian Nation clause does not jeopardise religious tolerance in the country

Bishop Joe Imakando and Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia president Reverand Pukuta Mwanza (l) confer

The Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) says the declaration of Zambia as a Christian Nation clause does not jeopardise religious tolerance in the country.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka, EFZ Executive Director, Pukuta Mwanza, said it was unrealistic for anyone to allege that the clause would cause discrimination as it has been in existence for the 21 years and had not caused any discrimination.

He was reacting to a statement by a UK-based lawyer, Muna Ndulo, who alleged that the clause may have serious repercussions.

Rev Mwanza said the declaration adds value to the country’s democracy as Christian principles are in harmony with good governance.

Meanwhile the Pentecostal Assemblies of God (PAOG) says the assumptions that the clause may cause conflict are not founded.

In an interview with ZANIS, PAOG Deputy Chief Bishop, Joshua Banda, said there was no need to remove the clause as it has had no any repercussions in the past 21 years it has been in existence.

  1. Yes it does. Why force it upon people? Zambia comprises of people of different religious beliefs and that should be reflected in the constitution. It is very intolerant to describe a diverse nation as belonging to one faith.

  2. Muna Ndulo is UK based? But he is right. And let  us consider the character of the man that introduced the whole notion of a Christian nation to begin with.

  3. Life is a religion, when you enter it each day take with you, your all. Faith is a deeper knowledge within your heart, beyond  the reach of scientific proof. Defend it with yo all. M Sovi

  4. I am not surprised, many of you are the anti Christ already written in the Gospel.

Zambia has a Christian Nation does not affect anyone, how are you affected by the declaration? If you are unbeliever its ok that is your decision and as Christians we will not force you to do so.

@4 Zambia is a Christian nation and must remain so forever.
    @3 Revolution what for?
@2 Declaration has nothing to do with the person who declared. But the Bible says blessed is the Nation whose God is the Lord Jehovah.
@1 The Government of Zambia has not forced you to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Choose who you want to serve, but as for me I will serve the Lord in Jesus name.

    • We are greatful that Zambia is a Christian nation .You evil Mrn do you know why UK was is blessed despite what is prevelling today it’s because men and women like Charles Wesley committed the land to the Lord no wonder they conquered the world

    • hahahahaha listen to yourself. Who told you that we are the antichrist? You see too many self appointed judges in Christendom.

    • Well to begin with who says if a country prosper it means they r blessed read psalms 73, Britain did not conquer with word they acted , even zambia if it didnt act it would still b in colonial,And yes  i conquer with (MY ZAMBIA) the word a christian nation has nothing to do with ur religious values ,that is why in zambia we even hav hindus moslims just to name a few,And The bible says a person wu opposes the teachings of christ is an anti christ .so critics r welcom but u shud know hw ,some of these countries u compare to ,, u should see there cultures these things they promote like u start slepin with animals(america) britain commanding countries to allow gay marriage thats  a signature of counterfeit christianity …

  5. Ndulo shud concentrate other things. If he has been out the country the last 21yrs, he keep quiet on what he doesnt no. I suspect he is the one responsible for the gays Article 68

  6. The reverand , EFZ Director Pukuta Mwanza you have been too quiet these days why?? Dont fear SATA he is your tradional cousin

  7. I call upon every Christian to defend this cause of our Nation to always be Christian. Christ many times has come to our defense and his peace has prevailed though we may be sinners but the love of Christ and His Grace is upon us. God bless Zambia.

  8. A secular society kills itself. We are generally christians and respective of other faiths. Lets strive to let God be God in Zambia

  9. OF COURSE ZAMBIA IS NOT A MUSLIM COUNTRY. IT HAS LARGELY BEEN A CHRISTIAN COUNTRY AFTER INDIGENOUS ZAMBIANS ABANDONED WORSHIPING THEIR gods. GO TO IRAQUI AND DECLARE IT A CHRISTIAN COUNTRY OR ANYTHING ELSE APART FROM ISLAM AND SEE IF YOU CAN COME BACK IN ONE PIECE LET ALONE PEACE.

  10. The declaration of Zambia as a christian nation has indeed caused intolerance in many circles, and the christianity itself abused by some misfits. People commit crimes like undressing women in mini skirts, in public, in the name of christian nation. One can also read many intolerant comments about christian this or christian that on these internet fora. I am forced to listen to prayers on a bus whenever I need to travel, and I am forced to listen to gospel music and watch gospel videos all the way from Livingstone to Kitwe. I once travelled from chingola with chaps who were ready to get violent with anyone who wanted to change the music.

  11. This Iraq example is total nonsense. Just because an Arab guy is irrational enough to think that a political prostitute will guarantee him an after-life in heaven with 70 virgins does not mean I should be foolish enough to accept the religion of my slave master, who himself only used it for political expediency. Writing has been there for thousands of years, and history has been documented. History shows that modern christianity is paganism in disguise. Feel free to believe in illusions of your choice, but do not force them on others.

  12. Religious intolerance is one of the main causes of war. The Bible and the Koran have caused more wars than pornography, mini-skirts or marijuana. Also, it is ridiculous to say that christianity adds value to democracy. A religious state is a theocracy, not a democracy. A theocracy is a religious dictatorship. The best democracies in the world, Scandinavia, are not officially christian nations. These are secular states. This guarantees equality before the law for people of differing religious views. I don’t wish to argue the credibility of christianity as a religion, but I do wish to have my rights respected as a non-christian Zambian, and christians should of course have their rights too, but not above anyone else.

    • I doubt there was a day when your rights as a non christian where challenged , is there a time when some one coerced u to become a christian ????

  13. Zambia will still be a christian nation , iwe Ndulo dont bring those culture of the westerns & Euro those of anti christ – in short you want to de – value the name of Jesus, if they are moslem let them go to egypt or Libya, if u are a traditionalist go to eastern continets, i cant be suprise u keep on moving – from USA now u are in UK learning whatever u think is knowledge

    • COS, this shows your ignorance. The westerners and Euro are the ones who brought you the christianity you are proudly climbing to be your own. They brought it to steal your land just like Chiluba used it to steal from your treasury while you were dancing and jubilating at his ill-conceived declaration. If I am a traditionalist, why go to the Eastern countries when my traditions are AFRICAN? Christianity found us here, so it had better behave ourselves or go back where it came from.

  14. The value of our motto as a nation has brought many good things though not seen , I personally look at the notion as a Goal, a direction which Zambia is Heading to ,when it was declared ,who knows maybe it was meant for political reasons or it was meant to change Zambia in  good way ,
when it was declared nobody was forced to join, if anything christians based on the book of mathew they move around declaring the word of God that is not a crime n definitely not coercing anyone they say the words and leave, when u Gospel music is playing u cn choose to ignore it the way a person can ignore other types of songs they dont like being played. so he who thinks the notion is bad for him let him not follow

  15. Prof Muna Ndulo is in US and not in UK naimwa ba lusaka Times. He is at some university in NY.Reserch b4 u report.

  16. The way the country has been run and the way it is,i cant say Zambia is a christian nation. Are all these wrongs that are happening in this so called christian nation a characteristic of Christianity? Is what is happening what the so called BIBLE teaches us?We are being forced to be Christians. Why should a country be declared a christian nation?Faith is up to an individual and let us not be forced………pretending to be christians wen not.

  17. Ba Prof Muna ndulo naimwe.Dont mislead Zambians. Its ok.In God We Trust! That the foundation of USA and thats y our friends r doing fine!We nid Gods favour to protect and guard Zambia. We should be a christian nation for ever.AMEN!.Other religions r free to settle in our beloved peaceful nation!

  18. Zambia is a Christian nation and will be a Christian nation forever! 99% of Zambians are christians and whether written or unwritten the country is a christian nation. Research has shown that where muslims comprise 10% or more of the population, they start bombing innocent citizens they call infidels. We don’t want that here.

  19. Paolo Di canio! No one is forcing it on pipo! You sound demonic possessed!Repent and pray to God u shall be believed in Jesus name! AMEN!

  20. What is so christian about Zambia, anyway? Is Zambia any diffeent from Tanzania or Kenya or Malawi in morality?
The christian declaration is a useless piece of writing! Christians are made in heart, not on paper!

  21. WE, THE PEOPLE OF ZAMBIA, IN EXERCISE OF OUR CONSTITUENT POWER:

    ACKNOWLEDGE the supremacy of God Almighty;
DECLARE the Republic a Christian Nation, but uphold the right of every person to enjoy that person’s freedom of conscience or religion
The Equalizer can you quote from the Zambian constitution where everyone is forced to be Christian.Galatians 5v22-23

    • The Equalizer sounds soothing here.
For you to say ‘We, the people of Zambia,…’ and then denying that you are not forcing everyone is hypocritical.
Maybe you should change that clause to read ‘Some of us, the people of Zambia, …’
This will, then, be true. I say this because, the truth is, some of us (the other lot) do not actually ACKNOWLEDGE some of the facts in the clause as it is.
Zambia is not a theocracy … The Equalizer is spot on.

  22. Praying for Muna Ndulo, Zambia belongs to Jesus we do not want our country to have a cold attitude to Jesus like the west does.

  23. I am a committed Catholic but I do not think Zambia needs to be declared a christian nation. Zambia needs to be a religious nation!

  24. In the last 21 years since Zambia was declared a Christian nation, how has it improved ?
    More Corruption,
    More Inflation,
    More lewd behavior,
    More violence against women,
The problem is that politicians use the shield of “Christian Nation” to ward of any criticism of their poor governance. When politics and religion mix, you dont get good politics, you simply get bad religion. Let me put it anotehr way. When one mixes milk and sewage, you dont get milk, you simply get more sewage. Politics=sewage. History shows us that religion and politics are a bad mix that are stealth weapons open to abuse by bad politicians.

  25. # 26…Thanks!! But let me remind you that you are not in Zambia i guess. Those who are in zambia are testifying.Am sure you are reading to get what people think about declaring a nation Christian.

  26. Replica Christian Louboutin pumps looks just the same as the original ones, but they come cheap because they are made using less expensive materials
