The PF government has deported Former ZAMTEL Managing Director Hans Paulsen.
Home Affairs Minister Edgar Lungu told Journalists in Lusaka this morning that Mr. Paulsen was deported this morning after he was cornered in Lusaka’s Makeni area.
Mr. Lungu explained that Mr. Paulsen was found in possession of two valid work permits, one for Zambia and another one for Sierra Leone.
He disclosed that Mr. Paulsen was also found in possession of some ZAMTEL property which government had been on the lookout for.
Mr. Lungu said the Zambian government will investigate how Mr. Paulsen returned to Zambia and how he got hold of a valid Zambian passport.
Mr. Lungu said government is determined to ensure that all wrong elements are flushed out of the country.

I sense some dullness from the Minister. Are work permits also refered to as passports? I know that in Zambia workpermits look similar to passports though only with two pages, but clearly a work permit is not a pssport.
Lets concentrate on development not hunting who to deport.PF you can do better than that,lets learn to be tolerant to people with opposing views.
Development also means ridding the country of undesired elements! Criminal elements retard development, bring chaos in a nation. If anyone is found wanting, the law should visit them, period!!

what crime did he commit? If he had Zambian passport why on earth would he need a work permit?
And what is wrong with having a Zambian passport any way. Does it mean that if you work for Zambian company and you cease to be an employ of that company automatically you become Persona non granta; I am asking these questions because the reporter has not given us enough information. We may start blaming the minister when there could be more information behind the scenes which we expect our learnt journalist to expose.
The article doesn’t say whether the passport wasn’t obtained before the work permit. Its possible to have both but the issue about having two valid work permits is a fallacy. Its meant to woodwink a critical thinker. It does not add to the argument. Its a deceptive ploy to the reasoning process.
Mr. Paulsen is well known. Now imagine how many nonentities have obtained Zambian passports. I am very sure that he got his passport recently probably during this same PF regime. I thought this regime was corrupt free? This fight against corruption has always been misplaced. We always target politicians from past regimes forgetting the institutionalized corruption in places. To have your house connected to Zesco, they demand bribes of K500,000, talk about Traffic Police, RTSA, etc. We need to fight corruption at that level not just targeting big politicia

That is why he was deported, not the former reason in the account! Those surely should have been very sensentive documents, not to have been mentioned.

COME ON PF CHAPS…IF THE GUY HAD A ZAMBIAN PASSPORT THEN HE DID NOT NEED A WORK PERMIT TO WORK IN ZAMBIA. AND THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH HAVING DIFFERENT WORK PERMITS FOR DIFFERENT COUNTRIES. BECAUSE ONE NEEDS TO HAVE A WORK PERMIT FOR EACH COUNTRY IN WHICH THEY WORK AND ONE CAN WORK IN AS MANY COUNTRIES HAS THEY CAN MANAGE…

Govt should deal with the immigration dept first which did not cancel his work permit when he was fired from Zamtel. There are alot of foreigners with corruptly obtained work permits who are operating in Zambia. Some expatriates use so called agents/consultants who process work permits for them. All what these agents do is grease some hands at the immigration office and the process is complete. How many expatriate engineers, technicians and accountants are working with dubiously obtained work permits which were issued without the immigration office consulting with ERZ, ZICA and Medical council. We have fake doctors with valid work permits. Deal with the immigration office first. If you want start by going to companies and check with these people.

it is 2 work permits you dodos NOT 2 PASSPORTS. You can have as many work permits as your work allows if you operate in more than one country – missed something, has this become a crime in Zambia?

If the Zambian Passport or Work Permit is valid, why investigate? … thought investigations could be instituted if the docs were fake. Or is it a slip of ululimi to have called them valid?
If he had illegally obtained the Zed Passport, he should be facing the law!! THIS DEPORTATION BUSINESS IS SIMPLY ABUSE OF POWER/AUTHORITY BY THE MINISTER/PRESIDENT.
If one is found with a case to answer in court, the court adjudicates – either imprisons one + advises deportation there after – this is when the minister without fear or favour may then deport someone!! GOVT IS WRONG IN THIS INSTANCE JUST AS WHEN THEY KIDNAPPED & DEPORTED THE PRIEST!!

English is a problem for 3. It is clearly written that the guy had 2 work permits, one for Zambia and one for Sierra Leon and a zambian passport. There is no confusion in the report. The question is deported to wich country. We will not guess Libya as one can be deported to Mars!!!

The comments here seems to come from emotions.immigrations laws differs country to country. For example if you carry a zambian passport and have a south african work permit attached in your passport, you cannot not have a botswana work permit in the same passport.it is obviously not legal to carry another passport and have a different permit it from another country.and unless he has a permanent residence, he cannot carry a zambian passport, which if he had he would not be using awork permit.The question therefore should be…does the zambian immigration laws allow more than one work permit to belong to anyone non citizen.i dont think any of the comments answers that.

IT IS NOT IMPOSSIBLE, I HAVE TWO VALID RESIDENT PERMITS FROM TWO DIFFERENT COUNTRIES!! Once a stamp is in your pass port, & you move on to another country, NO ONE TEARS THE FIRST STAMP OUT NOR DO THEY ERASE IT – IT STAYS!!! IT IS NOT A CRIME!!!
I have happily commuted between the two countries & got work whenever I so wished!! Zed immigration have no authority to decide how many Work permits are allowed in your passport, more so if it is a foreign passport!!

Theze deportaionz, genuine or stage managed, do send very wrong signalz to the public and must only be undertaken in extreme circumstancez.
