Government has disassociated itself from the Police action to raid United Party for National Development -UPND- head quarters in Lusaka.

Home Affairs Deputy Minister, Ngosa Simbyakula says police are professionals and government does not interfere in their operations.

Dr Simbyakula told journalists in Lusaka that Police make their own professional assessment according to their training.

He said this in response to questions from journalists who wanted to know if government issued instructions to Police to search the UPND secretariat.

Police this morning besieged the UPND Secretariat in Lusaka’s Rhodes Park area with a search warrant and sealed off Lagos Road as they looked for seditious materials.

Armed police officers kept vigil outside while others in plain clothes conducted the search which started about 09:20 hours Tuesday morning.

According to a search warrant obtained by ZNBC News, Police were looking for seditious materials at the UPND Secretariat.

UPND Vice President Richard Kapita, Secretary General Winstone Chibwe and lawyer Keith Mweemba were also at the Secretariat.

But the UPND officials at the scene were also very cautious and suspicious as they searched police officers before letting them onto the premises.

They did the search to prevent possibilities of anyone from planting incriminating evidence at the premises.
The search ended this afternoon around 12:00hrs.

Dauglous Syakalima the senior advisor to UPND president Hakainde Hichilema says the party is happy that the search is over.

He says police did not find any seditious material and that his party will not be intimidated.

Mr. Syakalima says the UPND will hold discussions with its lawyers before chatting the way forward.

And police assistant spokesperson Rae Hamoonga says police will issue a statement on the matter.

On Monday this week, an attempt by police to search the UPND secretariat was thwarted by party officials and their lawyers who claimed police had a defective search warrant.

If the president of UPND goes arround swearing and vowing to fight & disrupt a democratically elected government, then there offices must be searched by the police and rightfully so. Obviously there was enough reasonable cause for the magistrate or judge to issue the cops a search warranty. Until the cops comment I am not going to join the band-wagon of wholesale condemnation of the PF government for the actions of the Zambia Police Service. For I do n ot to wake up and slow my own words.

Iwe # 20 blue blood, the judiciary are the ones who issue a search warranty after police provide plausible cause or probable suspicion that something seditious is being haboured at the UPND offices. So this story is half baked and will only be complete once the police issues a statement concerning the outcome of the search.

The Police have the right to search any body and any institution they suspect of criminal intent upon producing a search warrant. So whether you talk rubbish or not they searched and you will not change a thing. It it amazing! If the police were not barred from searching the UPND offices yesterday, I ‘m 99% sure they were going to find some seditious material. In this case, I see a plot involving the source of the search warrant, the police, and UPND. How come the police were simplify denied entry by Sakwiba Sikota on the claim that they had a defective search warrant and they obliged. Which fool in this world can still keep the stolen item in his house after the police make a U-turn at his door? By all reasoning, UPND was deliberately given chance to conceal whatever seditious material that might have been there. It was pointless for the police to return to the UPND premises today and conduct a search.

  I totally agree with #35. If Police had searched the same day they were barred, definitely they would have found some suspicious materials. But because they were turned away, obvious the UPND removed the materials very quickly because they were full aware that the police would return the following day. Any normal person can agree with me on this one. Shame!

The Minister and his deputy sound like airheads every time they open their mounths and with no oversight from the gaff prone Prez whose only mission has been accomplished ( to become president) every minister is pulling in all sorts of direction.
