MMD to settle K400m debt owed the Registrar of Societies

Share

THE MMD is today expected to pay the K400 million it owes the Registrar of Societies in unpaid statutory fees.

Chief Registrar of Societies Clement Andeleki, who confirmed the development in an interview in Lusaka on Monday, said the MMD has decided to pay the outstanding debt at on go, not in the four instalments of K100 million it had earlier agreed on with Mr Andeleki.

Mr Andeleki said he is happy that the opposition party has resolved to settle the statutory debt this week.

“I want to confirm that the MMD has resolved to pay all the money it owes the Government in full. Last week, the MMD national secretary Richard Kachingwe called me and did indicate that the party will pay the K400 million in full.

“I want to state that this is what is expected of all registered societies and political parties. All registered societies should know that this is the same money which is being used to develop the country,” he said.

Mr Andeleki commended the MMD and other political parties that are supplementing Government efforts to develop the country by meeting their statutory obligations.

He also warned that he will this week swing into action and deregister organisations that still owe the government statutory fees.

“I would like to warn organisations and political parties that still owe the government statutory obligations that they will soon be deregistered.

“My officers will this week be on the ground to carry out random inspections and those who will be found wanting will be deregistered,” Mr Andeleki said.

On March 14, 2012, the MMD was de-registered by the Registrar of Societies for non-compliance to the Societies Act.

However, on June 25, 2012, the Lusaka High Court threw out the application by Mr Andeleki to de-register the party for non-payment of annual returns amounting to K390 million.

    • Whether its Andeleki working or someone else, whoever it is has done a good job. There is nothing wrong with making people pay what they are obliged to pay under the law. As for MMD, good decision to pay finally. From now on try not to disadvantage yourselves in this manner again. Work to re-build your credibility, and be sincere from now on, and maybe we’ll support you again. At this point, we’re not convinced, but we accept that you’ve made the right decision. Assuming you pay, that is.

  1. Is this guy zambian, he sounds like he has nija blood, he’s a threat to himself, come 2016 or b4, this guy too will be caged.

  2. Andeleki please resign, that is what you promised us that you will resign if the courts ruled against you. At that time collecting the debt was not your intention, all you wanted was to ban the MMD.You did not sue MMD to recover the debt. Please be ethical and resign!

  3. good move by MMD. i did not like the biasness from this registrar.. just hope he can adjust and be a civil servant. I think he can do better if he remained professional rather than doing the selective target of organisations that are in defult.

  4. He should have resigned after high court ruled against him so that his job would have meant one more person appointed and employed as the chain goes on.

  5. If this was a witch hunt as most bloggers here were saying (whom have shyed away) then I am happy to state the the witch has been discovered with K400million!!kekekeke

Andeleki keep up the good work my man!!

  6. Very good way of ending this Saga! Democracy has won. Andeleki has won. Government has won. Zambian people have won. The MMD have won. This is as things should be always. Antagonism that affronts Democracy is not welcome in this country please.

  7. Helpful information. Lucky me I found your website by accident, and I am shocked why this coincidence did not took place in advance! I bookmarked it.
