PRESIDENT Michael Sata is expected here to attend the United Nations 67th General Assembly and deliver his maiden speech as well as taking part in the high level debates.

Zambia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) Mwaba Kasese-Bota told journalists at a briefing at the Zambian embassy that Mr Sata would deliver a speech on the rule of law and the democratic governance of Zambia.

Dr Bota said the President would on Monday give a statement on the rule of law before the official opening of the General Assembly.

“President Sata is one of the three representatives from the SADC region who is going to speak on the rule of law,” she said.

In the afternoon, Mr Sata would speak about peace building towards sustainable development at the high level debate hosted by Bangladesh and Deputised by Zambia.

Zambia is second chair of the UN peace building commission.

On Wednesday morning, the President would deliver his maiden speech to the General Assembly.

“This will be his maiden statement since he became President of Zambia,” Dr Bota said.

On Thursday, Mr Sata would discuss Zambia’s investment opportunities at the Africa-America business conference where he was expected to talk about job creation for youths and women.

In the afternoon, there would be an investment forum where potential investors have been invited to come listen to Zambia’s investment
profile.

On Friday, the President is expected to meet Zambians living in the Diaspora.

He is expected to be accompanied ministers, Given Lubinda for Foreign Affairs, Bob Sichinga for Commerce Trade and Industry, Sylvia Masebo for Tourism and Arts, and Finance deputy minister Miles Sampa.

Others are Attorney General Mumba Malila and other top government officials. Dr Bota said some of the issues that would take centre stage during the debate included MDGs which the country had been implementing since 2002 and came to an end in 2015.

“It is however gratifying to note that Zambia like other countries has made tremendous progress in trying to reach the targets of the set goals despite some challenges,” Dr Bota said.

She cited the MDG two on universal access to education which Zambia had exceeded the target of 80 per cent to 96 per cent.

She said the momentum should be accelerated that had been garnered in order to meet the targets of the remaining goals.

She said Zambia would also like the UN reforms to be discussed because the issue was long overdue citing the Security Council reforms where the country is a SADC representative on the Security Council reforms.

“In other words the reforms will be focused on building peace and stability,” Dr Bota said.

  1. We are proud of our Leader and we are rest assured you will represent Zambia well. Its time for Africa to contribute on international issues and not always to be on the receiving end. Go well Mr. President

  2. Ukwa goes to New york. Another comedy is expected there. what a president? he turned parliament into a comedy theatre. No direction. he lost an opportunity to outline his plans. am sure Fackson shemenda was offended by shortening his name to F.U.C.K.. another movie untitled “UKWA MISBEHAVES N NY” is expected

  3. A plan to harness economic benefits in the diaspora is more important the the boring speeches/rethoric at the UN general assembly

  4. Protests are waiting for Mr Sata in NewYork because of his indulgence in other countries affairs. This will dent the image of Zambia as was the case in Europe whaen he visited UK and Switzerland. Unfortunately, he wont succeed to block protestors in USA as he does with opposition parties and other groups in Zambia.

  5. Whoever chose these topics for Sata must know or may have researched alot about this man.I hope will not say he has no degree and again change his mind and say he has one from USA.Even hon Kambwili owns on in literature going by his declaration in Parliament

  7. @ 6, 9 and 10,

The president is going to New york and represent us very well. This is not the first time he is addressing a meeting of this nature. Remember he went to Brazil and represented us very well. Most of u complained that he is going to embarrass us. Its unfortunate your HH will never have such opportunities in his life time.

If u say Sata does not know the rule of law, do you think HH knows the rule of law? my foot!!!!!!!
@ 5, since when did sata indulged in other countries affairs. If you have nothing to write about or you have run out of ideas, it is better to keep quite.

  8. #2 BA BWALYA MWALIKWATA SANA PROBLEMU. IN EVERY HUMAN ENDEVOUR/ACTIVITY LAUGHTER IS A VERY GOOD THERAPY OR MEDICINE. SATA IS SIMPLY ONE OF THE BEST POLITICIANS ON EARTH AND PEOPLE OF ZAMBIA MUST BE PROUD OF THAT. BUT PROBLEMS IS, ZAMBIANS HAVE A VERY BIG INFERIORITY COMPLEX- IF IT WERE A WHITE MAN MAKING PEOPLE LAUGH ALL WOULD HAVE APPRECIATED THE LIGHT MOMENTS. SATA IS A HARD WORKER, HE LOVES ENTERTAINING PEOPLE, TOO.

  9. we are sending pictures of barotseland schools to newyork.we are waiting for you sata.get ready for hot questions.you insulted bush.

  10. #12, THAT’S WHAT AM LOOKING FORWARD TO AS WELL. MR PRESIDENT, THAT’S A LAND OF COMEDY. PLS BE PREPARED WITH A BAG FULL OF JOKES. AMERICANS APPRECIATE COMEDY/JOKES. SATA HAS GOT A SENSE OF HUMOUR. AND THE OTHER ONE I KNOW IS THE LATE JULIAS NYERERE. WE WISH YOU A GOOD TIME IN THE STATES MR PRESIDENT.

  11. Hahaha No19
Go to Shangahi and go see how many English schools are there in each street for people to learn English.

Let him stick to Bemba and the translate…  because if he tries to translate Bemba jokes to English he might look like one big APE from Africa at the UN

    • IT WOULD CERTAINLY BE PLEASING TO MEET YOU NO.21,YOU SEEM TO HAVE ISSUES WITH THIS PRESIDENT.PLEASE NOTE,THAT MCS WILL BE PRESIDENT OF ZAMBIA FOR SOMETIME,THUS LEARN TO LIVE WITH IT AND GRANT HIM SOME RESPECT.THERE IS NO HARM.

    • This gentleman baffles me. I wonder how he would behave if the same language, style and approach was used to him. Do and say what you would tolerate when its directed at you. You do’t see sense in all what others do what would they do when they looked at you. Id Australia full of angels. What about your employers is it all roses? You surely are a surprise as you comment on people and issues in your country of origin. Unless the people you like others Don’t deserve respect, in your view!

    • This muppet gives respectable Engineers a bad name! Could it be you are the big APE in Australia? How retrogressive! Give me 3 minutes in an elevator with this chap and he will learn some manners and respect.

  12. Bo # 21,

Thats inferiority guy. I have not seen any  advanced country which has developed coz of English. Japan, Rusia, China, etc, they have developed using their own language. They don’t feel ashamed that they can’t speak english. They are over speaking in their language without the useless inferiority complex of you Zambians. Has your knowing english developed Zambia? Poverty is increasing parallel to english. Dull creatures indeed.

  13. But bafikala ba UPND mulifipuba. What was wrong with the president cracking jocks in parliament? You don’t know that was a sign that the man knew what he was talking about unlike your past presidents who only went to read what was written for them. They could not joke because they would lose sight of what was written for them. Bafikala mukafwa because of jealous and hatred. The President is delivering and you are choking with jealous. Mwanya.

  14. @no.8 Can you go back to grade one and study Mulenga and Jelita instead of exposing your dullness to the entire world.

  15. Language language what so special about grammar. Our friends the Asians have gone ahead in Science and Technology while we are talking about Launguage

  16. A sense of humour is God’s gift to Sata. Makes people laugh. Makes people happy! Unlike your dour UPND president who makes people sad, who only causes pain.

  17. Does it mean one can only deliver if always wearing a serious face as if they are on a toilet pan !!!! Sata enjoys having light moments in the middle of serious discussions. That is how it goes bane. If you are a good manager, always address meetings with light moments in between and you will see elevated participation by your workers.

  18. Many world leaders are known to have sense of humour such as KK, Madiba Mandela, late Mwalimu Nyerere even Fidel Castro has sense of humour. However, they have never caused any contraversy. What worries is Sata has been contraversial ever since he became president of Zambia. His being different from the rest of leaders with sense of humour may be explained as sickness. Type of sickness that has created concern to the whole nation and the sooner pyschological medication is sought the better for Zambia before the world begin to wonder what type of leadership is found in Zambia.

  19. We should all wish the republican president *Sata* well and hopefully he turns around reflect on the disappointing behaviour of most PF carders. The PF rank and file membership is not particularly conducting itself properly. Everyone is beginning to question why the PF membership is committing a string of crimes against the UNPD leadership with impunity. They should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the Zambian law. Viva HH, viva UNPD. Peace to all Zambians.

  20. Good to have Sata at UN, they should expect new drama from him. UN meetings have been boring without Gaddafi, and Chavez who is ill.

  21. im disappointed with people saying sata has a sense of Humour. yes there is nothing wrong with having a sense of humour. but there is everything wrong about having a sense of humour without applying yo brains to what you say. having a sense of humour means means knowing what funny thing to say where to say how you say it and when you say it and most importantly how appropriate it is for the crowd being addressed. if u cant see anything wrong with joking shamenda’s name in such a manner at that occassion then i wonder what yo idea of sense of humour is. let us not have “verbal diarhea sense of Humour.”
