Government has sent a message of condolences to Northern Province Minister Freedom Sikazwe over the death of three people who died on Monday on Lake Tanganyika after the boat they were in capsized.

Chief Government spokesperson Kennedy Sakeni said government has learnt with deep shock and sorrow the death of the three who included two juveniles and an adult.

The three drowned while 12 others are still missing and only twenty eighth people survived after the boat they were travelling in from Nsumbu to Chisansa fishing camp on Lake Tanganyika capsized after a heavy wind.

In a statement issued to the media in Lusaka yesterday, Mr. Sakeni said government will do everything possible to lighten the burden of the bereaved families.

Meanwhile Mr. Sakeni has said government has resolved to invest in water transport in order to enhance public safety and prevent a recurrence of such tragedies.

Mr. Sakeni said this after reports that the boat meant only for 12 passengers was overloaded with 50 people on a 25 kilometre journey from Nsumbu to Chinsansa fishing camp on Lake Tanganyika.
