Opposition MMD National Chairman Kabinga Pande says reports that talks between the MMD and UPND over the adoption of a common candidate for the Mufumbwe election have broken down are a creation of the Media.
Mr. Pande observed that some sections of the media are working so hard to see to it that the two parties do not field a common candidate in the Mufumbwe bye election.
“This is purely a creation of the media, they are creating the whole issue as a way of creating an impression that the two parties are at war over Mufumbwe,” Mr. Pande said in an interview.
He said the MMD and the UPND are still discussing the issue and that a position on the matter will only be announced next week.
“The truth is that we are still talking and by next week, a final decision would be made. What is pleasing is that the leadership of the two parties is still committed to having a single candidate represent the two parties,” he said.
Mr. Pande said some media houses are bent on painting a picture that the two parties have deep differences over the Mufumbwe seat.
He reiterated that the MMD and the UPND are still keen on fielding one candidate for the Mufumbwe seat.
Mr. Pande wondered why the media is sensationalizing the run up to the Mufumbwe election as if it is the first time the two parties will be contesting a bye election since September last year.
He said the MMD and the UPND have demonstrated greater willingness to work together in previous bye elections which should be supported by all well-meaning Zambians.
Some local media reports, quoting anonymous sources in the UPND and the MMD point to a growing rift between the two parties which threatens their resolve to field a joint candidate for the Mufumbwe seat.

MMD and UPND have both played in the hands of the Post. Mumembe is now laughing because that which he had hoped for has come to pass. He confused both of them to the extent that they started undoing one another. It is almost impossible now to resolve this matter. Let them both field candidates and the popular party can still win. There is no need to combine forces on PF as Sata and PF are not liken by the people in that area because they are tribalist who have no respect for other tribes in Zambia. They will lose that seat unless if they are going to engage in violence, vote buying and intimidation as they did in L’stone and also using Dr. Sex Jelly and Libongani to make it hard for the opposition to campaign by stopping their rallies as they are doing to UPND in Lusaka.

The opposition should be smart to win these elections. MMD and UPND should field one candidate. Useless MMD with no spine. Just go it alone. Are you also going to field one candidate in the 2016 elections? If so then it is automatic that its HH. Do you agree to this, if not , then start gauging you muscles now. Go it alone and UPND alone. So simple.
The truth is that under whatever circumstance UPND will field its candidate. Whether MMD agrees or not, the candidate is UPND. So you MMD go it alone, dont depend on UPND, 2016 is just around the corner.

stop blaming the media for reporting whats obtaining on the ground you liar of an mp. numerous pronouncements have been made on this issue by high ranking upnd officials declaring their popularity in mufumbwe as compared to your party’s. its not meembe who asked mweetwa of upnd to say what he said on the fielding of one candidate in mufumbwe. why dont you just go it alone and see if you will win again.
THE FACT OF THE MATTER IS THE RIFT IS THERE. THE CANDIDATE COULD HAVE BEEN FOUND BY NOW. AND BY THE WAY, LOGICALLY, I FEEL THE MMD IS THE ONE WHICH WAS SUPPOSED TO FIELD A CANDIDATE AS THEY ARE THE ONES WHO HAD IT; NOT FORGETTING THE CREATING OF IT.
