The Christian nation debate

By D.Chikwanda
As a citizen of the beloved mother Zambia, I thought its time I also added my voice to the current debate on Christian nation declaration. Before I go any further, let me make it clear that I am not a catholic nether am I a protestant but a Zambian and a son of God.

Why do I have to make this clarity? Well, it’s because I have observed that this debate seems to be a battle between Catholics and Protestants, it’s a battle of supremacy and pride between these two religious groupings.

The declaration of Zambia as a Christian nation was by Fredrick Chiluba who was a protestant and when Sata (a catholic) won the elections he promised to rule this country based on the catholic doctrine. This issue seems to be stretching far beyond a clause in our constitution and I am deeply convinced that they are bigger powers trying to influence this debate: for or against. But as for me, I want to add my voice to this debate as a common Zambian, based on my personal understanding and conviction.

In my submission I want to disagree with those that are against the declaration, especially the arguments that Catholic clergymen have put up so far. Specifically, I want to respond to the article by Fr.Gabriel Mwanamwalye (I must say that am a big fan of his Insights articles) in the post newspaper of 24th September, 2012 dubbed “Christian nation debate: acta non verba.” In this article Fr.Gabriel argues that almost 21 years after the Zambia was declared a Christian nation, as a nation we have nothing to show for it and he also says that faith without works is dead. The clergy further pointed out evil acts currently prevailing in this country such as corruption, poverty, murder, politics without principles and so on. He uses these
as a point of argument against the declaration of Christian nation. It is true that some things that are currently happening in this nation do not reflect Christian values, but is this reason enough to get rid of the declaration? Certainly not! From my understanding the declaration does not mean perfection it’s simply an acceptance as a nation that we believe in the life of Jesus Christ and recognize his supremacy and of course this must be shown in our works as well.

In ancient times Israel was declared a nation of God but that did not mean everyone in Israel was faithful but they accepted God and believed in his powers as a nation. All of us we call ourselves children of God but that does not mean we are perfect, sin will distance us from God but it does not make us cease to be his Children.Truly what is happening in our country is disheartening but instead of us denouncing that declaration we must start striving to live up to Christian standards. The clergy must devote their time towards teaching people to obeys God’s laws and live up to those standard instead of condemning the declaration. Let us also bear in mind that we are living in the last days but that does not mean there are no people who believe or live up to the standards of God. Instead of asking what the declaration has done we must be asking ourselves as churches what we have done to improve the situation in the nation. In other words it’s like the clergy are admitting that we have failed to live up to Christian values therefore let us become liberal.

In my conclusion let me answer the question that Fr. Gabriel raised in his article, the question was “it is almost 21years after Fredrick Chiluba declared our country as a Christian nation, what have we to show for it? The answer is simple: we have peace and love in our nation. 1peter 4:8 says “Above all things have intense love for one another, because love covers multitude of sin.” And John 13:34-35 says “I am giving you a new commandment, that you love one another just as I have loved you and by this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love among your selves.” I believe as a nation this is what we have done, even visiting tourists have appreciated us for our love which has lead to peace. This has been shown in smooth transition of political power and it can also be seen in our patience towards bad leadership in this country because the bible says ‘love is patient.’
Besides if I may ask what harm has the declaration caused so far?

Fr.Gabriel in his article says faith without works is dead but what we must realize is that there is a difference between a declaration and
faith. Faith in the Bible is describe as a substance of things hoped for; meanwhile a declaration on the other hand means a pronouncement,so as a nation we are simply making a pronouncement that we recognize the supremacy and existence of Jesus and that we believe that he came to earth and died for our sins and it also means that we submit to his teachings and principles but this does not mean that citizens automatically become perfect or angels. Even in churches including Catholics there are people engaging in illicit activities but we can’t say that we should get rid of the church but we strive to
educate members and praying that God can touch their hearts and bring them to repentance. This is what we should be doing as a nation instead of having petty debates on the declaration. Let us pray to God to help us as a Christian Nation to become a nation that will live up to a true meaning of Christianity. Let us pray for our leaders, let us pray for one another and let us pray against all kinds of evil prevailing in this nation.

A practical example of what we have to show for as a Christian nation is the way we responded towards the issues of homosexuality that arose after the visitation of the UN secretary General.Catholic priests included rose up and said we can’t allow such a practice in our country because we are a Christian nation. The declaration is thorn in the flesh of those that want to introduce dirty practices such as homosexuality and as a nation we must guard our nation and the declaration jealously. Well this is my personal view on the matter and I intend to share with many Zambians with hope that they share my views as the drafting of the new constitution progresses.

May the Good lord bless this nation and its citizens.

  1. I think as christians let’s remain christian not copying any thing that the moslem world does. God chose the Isaerites has his people not the other way round. In short we are not christians because declarations but by deeds loving Kindness welcoming like the good samaritan who helped a injured man when people of same religion just passed by etc that’s what makes us christians not coping because Iran has been declared moslem nation so Zambia should also declare its self. I wonder if you people ever read and understand the bible. But I respect your shallow understanding of religious declarations.

    • bana because you are in USA you think you can do without God? when you declare and do progress will come . he gives power to obtain wealth

  2. Let us be judged by our deeds.Making declarations or proclamations on a roof-top doe’s not make one a Christian.Walking around with a bible in your hands doe’s not make you a christian either.
It’s through our daily actions, practices and living as Christians that the community or the world at large will recognize us in that light.
FTJ declared Zambia a christian nation yet he was found liable for stealing from his countrymen. He also took away someone else’s wife.Till his death he was unrepentant. Those actions are against the very fundamental teachings of the bible.

    • Mr Independent separate FTJ from declaration, if anything this is the best thing FTJ did for Zambia MHSRIP.

Zambia being Christian does not mean we are perfect, NO, then even if we were not perfect or we are carrying bibles around and yet we are far away from God, it does not mean we should identify ourselves secular, NO. Jesus came for that which is lost and we are then through him we will be saved “at an individual level” But as a Nation we are a shining star in Africa.

  3. The declaration was done in bad faith … the late president did it to impress his egos; such as to let people think he was to be trusted above all other doubts. He declared it …but still went public to chew someone else’s wife; but still went ahead to be involved in a multitude of corruption cases. Please note that even Muslims and Hindus in Zambia are entitled to having a say in the declaration. Zambia has nothing to show for this. A christian nation needs to use the Holy Bible as its Constitution. Is the constitution a replica of the Holy Bible? Thou shall not JUDGE, but you are judging others in the courts of law! Jesus forgave that prostitute, but you are busy taking them to Mukobeko  after judging them.

  4. Faith and belief are at the personal levels. Being inclusive might just doom your intention. How many people did the MMD win to their Christian faith?

  5. With or without the declaration it will still be the same Zambia at the end of the day. With womanizers, criminals,Corrupt individuals, drug traffickers and Drunkards still going about their business just like before.

    • Ever wondered why Countries with 80% Christian there is less violence????????

Love, which most people who visits Zambia will confess, whether prostitute, criminal …………. etc

  6. This article is based on wrong assumptions: 1) sata never said he’d rule zambia following catholic doctrine. He said he’d rule zambia by ten commandments. 2) the issue of declaration is not about supremacy battle btn catholics and protestants. Many lawyers and human rights’ activists have argued against this on the basis of equality for all in the constitution.

    • Zambia has been a Christian Nation for almost 20years now. Show me who has been discriminated????????

The NGOs are not always principled and cannot be our decider, sometimes they have hidden agendas and may be championing questionable interests. In this regard their argument are unfounded.

  7. Who declared Isreal as a “christian nation”? Was it God Himself or Isrealites? What I Know is that God chose Isreal Himself. He actual built this nation himself starting with Abraham. Our declaration of our country as a christian nation is unbiblical. It is also blasphemy to call zambia a christian nation.Isreal was a phisical “christian nation”,but today we have a spiritual christian nation. The ruler of this spiritual christian nation is Jesus Christ,God himself.Anyone who believes in Jesus Christ is a citizen of this nation.God still deal with the citizens of his nation just like the way He used to deal with the Jews before Christ died and rose from the dead, but in spiritual way.God still fights for the spiritual Jews even today.STOP BLASPHEMING GOD BY COMPARING CHRISTIANITY AND ISLAM.

  8. Good afternoon

It’s not surprising that Catholics and Protestants are playing snakes and ladders in this debate. It is not the first time, nor is Zambia the first place that these two religious groups have been jostling for political power.

In a more neutral, less religious or political point of view, I think it can be said that Zambia has fared relatively well up to now with its Declaration as a Christian Nation. On the other hand, it is more important for us as Zambians to be in good hands with each other on the basis of our culture than to allow any ideologies, churches, denominations or declarations to seperate us.
Blood is thicker than water. One Zambia, One Nation!

    • Good you have acknowledged we have faired well since declaration. Before Mwanawasa died he reconciled with Sata, it was not drama it was the power of God at work, we did not know those two leaders would even face each other as they wrestled political power.

Let’s keep it. Keep “Christian Nation Clause”

    • bamudala nine chale! either bemba, senga, or kacokwe, you can not futa. when you are christian not religious or idealist or any other thoughts, when you are you ARE. BE ENLIGHTED  :)>-

  9. As far as am concern all this talk about Christian nation is nonsense as the whole doctrine is foreign to Africa. If the Arabs came first we could have been Muslims.Jesus is for the white people only. And Mohammed is for Arabs.

    • We could have been muslims yah, and butchering one another, but then we are Christians and love one another you know what? because Christianity was founded on loving one another just as it is our greatest commandment.

      I love you brother.

  10. Amen! Jesus is lord over Zambia and the fruit will follow, And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.Habakkuk 2:2-3

  11. True faith does NOT need political declarations and contitutional clauses to remain alive in the hearts of believers (the flock)..

    • True, believing is an individual matter and each of us will give an account. Do not mix the two Zambia has simply identified herself with God, we can be sinners but Christ is still our Head as a Nation while we will face him individually.

Show me who has being harmed in this Nation because of a Christian Clause???????????

    • Wait until you start having christian fundamentalist groups supporting particular political agendas/parties. They will maim and kill in the name of God. Thats when you will realise that principle of keeping religion out of politics is golden. The Catholic church is the oldest and once held political power over Europe. Its agents maimed and killed in the name of God ( during the inquest). Now they (Catholics) apologise for the crimes of the inquest. Lets learn from HISTORY and from those that have experienced it first hand.. Religious fudametalism is not only cofined to Islam it can has and still can happen to any FAITH icluding christianity. Hence the reason poitical power must be kept abay from the clutches of FAITH. Faith is blind & this blindness should not be mixed with politics

    • A true Christian killing somebody, I can’t imagine that, Catholic doctrine was and is still questionable in some quarters, they might have killed but that is centuries ago if someone killed in the name of god simply ask them which god they used to kill.

Unless otherwise no one will ever be killed in Zambia because of Christian Nation clause. It will never happen erase your fears.

    • My Zambia. Sorry to say this but you are NAIVE! More literate/tolerabe socities such as UK have witnessed religious violence (IRA/Seinn Fein). In Uganda Koni has been maiming and killing in the name of CHRIST since the 90s. Dont assume it cannot happen in Zambia. Empirical data shows that this ( religious backed carnage) has happend in Europe is currently happening in Africa (UGANDA).

    • But you should also realize that the level of understanding of Christianity differs from one region to another and from one church/denomination to another. The current situation in Zambia is that Christianity is well informed, there is a deeper understanding of the word of God in our country even among non believers and to think someone would kill in the name of Jesus it is simply unimaginable!

  12. This is a bad article. I feel it is gear towards Homosexuality and missing the big picture which is the consequences of putting Christian nation in a National doctrine that is supposed to protect the rights of every human. How many countries out there have been declared a Christian nation? This is the potential danger which must avoid. Everyone should have the right to religion; it should not matter whether you believe in Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Judaism, Rastafari movement and so on, one must be free to practice their own beliefs and declaring Zambia to Christianity contradicts that freedom. I like our Motto: One Zambia, One Nation and religion should not be an exception to this.

    • Correct. For a christian to understand how we feel when we have to listen to gospel music from Livingstone to Kitwe, maybe lets ask them how they would feel listening to rasta music about ganja all that distance. The countries that brought us this christianity are themselves secular states, and are among the most stable countries. There is no single religious country that I know of that is more prosperous than the secular states. That aside, fundamentalism is forcing one’s beliefs on others. Declaring Zambia a christian nation implies forcing non-christian Zambians to belong to a form of State they are not comfortable with, which is not even historically our identity. A secular State allows christianity and other religions, including those of us who do not choose any religion at all.

  13. Best article so far on the Christian Nation Clause, God bless you. May the Lord God Almighty protect our “Christian Nation” clause from being stolen in Jesus’s Name Amen.

  14. I echo your observation i know u can make a good priest than most fake pastors/priests in Zambia. Continue bring such issues only Satan will dislike your observation. u have a million support from me and my family:((

  15. Well as much as the observation may be sensible, let us agree to some extent that from Chiluba himself follow the following..that is in a christian Nation:
Kaunda declared stateless, how many prominent politicians were killed,Stinking corruption,Rigging of election hence minority rule, look at the gap between the poor and the rich, compare the distribution of resources, one part to have 5 universities what about others, person judged in a newspaper and state house pass a sentence, church trying to bury 3 boys alive,a pastor accused of having impregnanted 10 members of the church, priest deported, violence, killings nearly daily either Mailon brothers or winangu chabe,rape,defilement……e.t.c.the list is endless…who can support this declaration only a naive, retard and a corrupt conduit

    • Wrong concept, change your perception that is the only thing that need to be changed. When Jesus came on earth it did not mean all evil will disappear, infact ask any clergy, temptation are higher in believers than in non believers, but we ought to overcome, and the happenings in the Nation does not disqualify the fact that the Lord Jesus Christ is supreme of the Nation Zambia, far from it.

The best you can do is read thru the article for now.

    • My ZAMBIA,your arguments are unBiblical and pointing to christian fundumentarism.You.In the LORD’s PRAYER,why do we pray for the Lords Kindom to come? Why does the Bible say the ruler of this world is satan?Which nation would you choose,Zambia ruled by man or the God’s Kindom ruled by Jesus Christ Himself.Dont you think by insisting that we be called a christian nation we are behaving like phareeses? For the first centuary believers, were they calling themselves christian or they were just called by others after seeing their faith in Jesus Christ? For your imformation, one of the arguments raised by supporters of christian nation is that even moslems call there countries as Islamic states.

  16. #6,the bible says my people perish becoz of lack of knowledge,ISRAEL IS NOT A CHRISTIAN NATION as you have claimed.ITS A JEWISH NATION,who believe in TORA mainly from the old testament in the bible.they dont believe that jesus is the son of GOD and plainly dont condone the new testament teachings, but they have embraced LOVE FOR ALL MANKIND.we have about 4% of christians in isreal.coming to the article,HAS THE CHRISTIAN DECLARATION AFFECTED ANY PERSON IN ZAMBIA AND THOSE VISITING,EITHER POSITIVE OR NEGATIVELY.if the ans is NO then lets end the debate, and if the ans is YES then lets see how we can utilize the declaration for us to improve on the LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR and FORGIVE ONE ANOTHER.THE ONLY PROBLEM WE ARE HAVING THIS DEBATE IS BECOZ IT WAS DECLARED BY A PAGAN-chiluba,instead of

    • Christian Nation has not affected anyone, hence end of debate. Chiluba had his own short comings and its not us to disown him let alone judge him God will take care of that.

  17. christian councils such as the christian council of zambia, zef, icoz.any many such christian body representives.if we as a country had take this path i believe we will not be debate this issue.then whts the difference?we all assume that the pastors, are HOLY MEN AND WOMEN,of course some have an outstanding image while others not,but we all think that they represents the true values of christianity.when isreal was declared a jewish state,it was not done by politicians but by a PROPHET and it was later embraced by the political figures as time went by.thus today most of the national political figureheads embrace the declaration..so

  18. Very interesting article for the motion. You have put across strong arguements. I hope they reach the right persons before the debate is concluded. Well done son of Zambia.

  19. This article is biased!! Firstly the author says he is neither Pente or Catholic and his views are independent. But he has castigated one side only i.e. the catholics. All the catholics have said about the declaration has been condenmed. Read again, has he condenmed the pente in any way? NO!!!!. What he should have done was put the views from both parties and [negative and postive], then put your views across. From this artcile i can see that the author is another member of the Holy Ghost Fire churches. Look at the condition FTJ was wen he made the declaration. He never consulted anyone not even his own cabinet!! What followed is all history, brown envelopes, prophesying lies was the order of the day. My view is that Govt and Religion must NEVER mix. Give Ceaser what belongs to him.

  20. All those against, my question to you is, who would you side with? Jesus or devil whose side you seem to be on? Why would you not support the Declaration just simply because Chiluba was found guilty or not guilty for whatever u and I know he did/did not do? Introducing Boom or Lifebuoy on the market does not mean that everyone else will start bathing or washing with the 2 brands. Likewise, Declaring Zambia as a Christian Nation does not imply that everyone will be a Christian, but rather its a Choice you make either to go for or against it. Let us who are not afraid/or become guilty by the declaration, be Identified by Zambia being called a Christian Nation. Muslims have no time even to start debating about their declaration because its a noble thing for them to do. why not us?

  21. Why should ka Chiluba declare our nation to a particular religion. Politics has nothing to do with it.
He certainly did not have work to do. Leave religion out of politics. People have diverse beliefs and other are ethists, but we are all Zambians. Scrap this nonsense about a ‘Christian Nation’.

    • Christian Nation Clause is not nonsense, what is nonsense is your hatred of the former President Chiluba and since you have hate all you see is nonsense this and that.

To tell you is that with democracy Zambia is a shining star the whole of Africa and will soon be next to United States of America. We are proud of that.

  22. During the Chiluba era there was more corruption. Remember Zamtrop that landed Chungu in exile , more divorces including the President Chiluba divorcing Vera and marrying Regina Mwanza somebody’s wife. Christian only not I dont care. It is what we do as Zambians. Divorce our wives, steal more money.

    • Jesus apparently came for that which was lost. You never know what really goes on in the spiritual realm probably Chiluba got in to what he got in because of the declaration he made, you will agree with me that at the moment he was a child of God.

In our nation the police will not go into the street with guns forcing people to accept Jesus, it will not happen because those issues are individual and are therefore dealt with in the heart.

There is nothing wrong with our nation being Christian there is totally nothing wrong.

  23. D. Chikwanda, Thanks for your article. Well written with clear insights. However, just one minor correction of one of your key premises. 1. Sata in his church inaugural address at St. Ignatius Parish said he would rule Zambia by The Ten commandments and not catholic doctrine.
Sata, is shrewd! Mark my words he will not make amendments to the Christian clause. In fact he has been consistently calling for how we can actualize this declaration. Which I am convinced is the way to go.
Currently, we are safe to declare our country “The Christian Nation” (it is our identity demographically). My only fear is that in future this might politically polarize the nation . Nevers Mumba will ride on protestants and Sata the Catholics. Then there are might be radicalization of positions. God forbid

    • Ma Taliban and My Zambia – Dont be emotional when debating national issues. Jesus is for all of us, not only those who shout Holy Ghost Fire!!

    • I am not emotional in any way, I simply address your worries questions as well as dsmissing your fears and so forth, ………

I am fully aware Jesus is for everybody I have not personalized Him, and thanks for you also to claim Him am glad you need Him.

      Goodevenning

  24. To all those in support of the Holy Ghost Fire in our consitution please answer the following question:

Since the constitution is the supreme law of the land, how will the police and or courts of law enforce or interprete this clause if i chose not to obey it? If this law does not send me to jail for not obeying it, why have it in the first place?

    • What are you talking about?????????

There is no Holy Ghost Fire in our constitution, maybe I may ask whose countries constitution are you referring to?????????

  25. ZAMBIA MAY HAVE MAJORITY CHRISTIANS BUT IS NOT A CHRISTIAN NATION. A TRUE CHRISTIAN NATION IS WHERE THE MAJORITY OF THE PEOPLE ARE PRAYING ALL THE TIME. ZAMBIA IS NOT LIKE THAT. EVEN CHRISTIANS FORGET TO PRAY BEFORE A MEAL.

IN MY VIEW, IT IS A DANGEROUS DECLARATION, WHICH SATAN WILL TAKE ADVANTAGE OF. REMEMBER THE FOOTBALL TEAM DISASTER SOON AFTER FTJ’s DECLARATION?

THERE ARE MANY THINGS BOUND TO HAPPEN AS WE SEEM TO BE TRYING GOD.

PLEASE REMOVE IT FROM OUR CONSTITUTION

    • Out of touch Bo Mubukwani. Christianity is an individual connection between an individual and God through Jesus Christ. As for a Christian Nation we identify our nation with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. If you live in Zambia does not mean you automatically saved. You need to meet Jesus personally.

We have been Christian Nation for 20yrs so far so good where love and peace is concerned.

Currently Zambia is a shining star where democracy is concerned in the whole of Africa.

  26. This us not really important.! Uphold human righs.Develop the country even to the level
of south Africa. We have a very small population which should be eaily managed.
Black White Gay straight it doesnt matter we are all Zambian andshould be
ableto choose a religion not imposed on us.

  27. zambia been declare a christian nation does not mean perfection but just an oarth before GOD,if the majority of the populace whats to uphold the clause,do the following simple rules.1)NO ALCOHOL TO BE SOLD ON SUNDAY B4 4PM except in high class areas like hotels, and night clubs.2)on saturday all bars and acohol outlets should be closed by 11pm(23hrs).3)all prostitutes to be taxed @40% of their earnings.4)enforce child support ,through the police agency of violence against abused or gender whatever.especially to the heartless productive men.5)limit the expansion of the muslim mosque as they might blend radical islamists.6)create a christian supreme council, with powers than the president to guide the nation to live to its full meaning of the christian values endoured by the creator.

  28. Ati christian nation,my foot? With all the evil of theft, adultery, wife snatching and prostitution that goes on in zed FTJ could well have declared zambia an atheist nation. But then again knowing zambians they’d be just like me- i gave up being an atheist because they have no holidays.

  29. Jesus has, is and will fight Zambia’s battles. The gates of hell will and can never prevail. Jesus has the final word over Zambia and his blessings are upon our land.

  30. I don’t know why anyone would want to emulate Israel; they are militaristic, racist, and violence-prone. Supporting apartheid, ill-treatment of African immigrants (of any religion, even Jewish), pushing the Palestinians off their land; how can Israel be God’s chosen country? Many countries without Christian (or other religious) declarations have peace and stability; no country, religious or not, is without crime, deprivation and human suffering. It is the way of the world. Such a declaration, however, can be used against certain groups, can be applied unequally to oppress certain people, and distracts from real issues. You can outlaw certain behaviors, but all people need to have their human rights protected, whether they have HIV, are gay, are criminals, are non-Christians, etc.

  31. BANE CATHOLIC PROTESTANTS ASK YOURSELF WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO SPEND ETERNITY.HAVE YOU EVER HAVE AN ENCOUNTER WITH THE LORD. DO YOU REALLY KNOW THE LORD JESUS AS YOUR PERSONAL SAVIOUR AND LORD. FORGET ABOUT THE FATHER OF THE ROMAN CATHOLIC AND THE PASTOR OR THE PROPHET OF THE PENTECOSTAL CHURCH.YOU NEED TO COME TO THE SAVING KNOWLEDGE OF THE LORD JESUS.HIS BLOOD WAS SHED FOR YOU AND ME

  32. You don’t have to support gay marriage to believe that all people, including gays, should be free from violence and have the same rights as anyone else. Just because you think that prisoners should have have equal access to sanitary living conditions, medical care, adequate food, clean water, and payment for labor doesn’t mean you support crime. A person doesn’t lose human rights or their humanity because of their actions or the group they belong to. The problem with a religious declaration is that it can limit people’s rights based on a religion they don’t belong to. Why should anyone be hold to standards of a religion that is not their own? And who decides what those standards are; will there be a panel of priests, of ministers, of laywomen and men?

  33. Laws should be in place to protect human rights; the right to own property and not have stolen or damaged, the right to move freely, the right to freedom of speech, the right to decent medical care, the right to clean water and adequate food, the right to not be tortured, etc. All those laws can be put in place without a religious declaration underlying them. Even though many human rights have been advocated for by religions and theology, that doesn’t mean that a government needs a religious background to protect those rights. I recognize the good that churches and Christians have done, and I believe they will continue to do good work, but they don’t speak for all Zambians. And Zambia had peace under Kaunda (as well as problems), just as it had after the declaration.

  34. there is no logic in your argument. allow me to point one or two things. your argument is not independent as you claim , you have attempted to argue against Fr. Gabriel and the position of the catholic church. With your shallow knowledge on the bible who told you that you are living in the end of times o world? if it is written in the bible dont take it literaly, you are misleading the people. Remember you are not the first person to read that you are living in the ends of times. 2000 years ago, when Paul was preaching about the imminent return of Christ he said the same thing you reading today, has the world ended. Dont give very cheap literature to the public. do audience research before you post this kind of writing. Wish you best of lucky as you progress in thinking

  35. Why this unprecedented opposition to the Christan declaratory during the PF regime, may the lord bring to light everything we don’t know. Christians we need to be prayerful at all times for our country, Jesus has already overcome all evil on the cross of Calvary, we have been called to love , some do not even know or understand what they are opposing but we know who we wrestle against it is not flesh and blood but principalities and powers in the heavenly realms, thank God for Jesus Christ he disarmed them 2000 years ago . God bless Zambia and every Zambian who hungers for righteousness.

  36. This is the most useless article i have ever read in my life. The author seems indeed to be coming from the rather ’emotional fire holy ghost’ than intellectual thought out stand. In zambia today, the most evil person is the one you see carrying a bible going to a pente church. try to relate to them in any way, you ll regret it.be it a business deal or anything. Its as if the devil reports to them.
What seems to be the problem here is there are no more brown envelops hence no more chains of concumbines, instilling fear of fire holy ghost in our people and pastors living lavish life styles that seems to the problem here. Their influence has diminished.

  38. That declaration only achieved evil things: it brought ichimupashi ichakuyumfwa ichakowela kuli ba pente. Since that declaration it has been me! me! me! From pentes, they went on spree of stealing tithe and public funds, grabbing other men’s husbands and wives using the bible, giving false prophesy mislead enmass. listen to the arguments of those in favour. You ll notice their desire to hide in the bible scriptures whose true meaning they dont understant. These pentes are simply mischievious people wanting attention all the time.
Infact its GOD who wants to remove this declaration so that his people in zambia can worship him in truth and faith not hiding in useless man made declarations.[-(

  39. Thanks my brother for your article. WE MUST REMAIN A CHRISTIAN NATION. WE KNOW WE ARE SINNERS BUT WE CONTINUE CALLING OURSELVES AS CHRISTIANS.GOD SELVE US.

  40. the removal of the declaration ll make the true believers of GOD ALMIGHTY AND HIS SON JESUS CHRIST worship in truth without seeking mare man’s approval. Those who seek political declarations to worship the Lord ve no place in his kingdom.
The author above has enjoyed too much brown envelops and other favours hence his loud hollow cry. A christian nation were gospel music is not different from koffi olomide’s. Even if you worship without any political declarations our GOD is deaf to hear nor too far. I think the author is not telling us what his issue is instead chooses to hide in this hollow argument. Is many problem is funding to nourish himself and his excess bargage.[-(

  41. I am disappointed that a Priest can ask what Zambia has to show for the declaration of a Christian nation made 21 years ago!. Surely the patience of Zambians and the peace we enjoy are Christian tenets. Was it not prophesied before the last elections that there will be bloodshed in Zambia? Come on Father, you should know that the declaration was basiclly a desire by the Zambian People to make God the Supreme Ruler and protector of our beloved nation, what is wrong with that? You must also know that SATAN has never been happy with the declaration because he would rather be the ruler! Satan has therefore gone on to use some of his Zambian disciples to cause havoc in the nation, hence all the bad happenings. No body said that it was going to be a bed of roses from that time on. Pray!

  42. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; and the people whom he has chosen for His own inheritance.
In Jesus name God bless this Christian Nation , Zambia for ever and ever. Amen.

  43. This is the best explanation by Mr. Chikwanda. The late former President simply meant that Zambia was not Moslem, not Hindu, not anything besides Christian. People misunderstood this to mean -“we are not sinners”.

  44. While we are busy trying to work against the declaration God appears in Uganda; the whole nation accepts him, they confess their SINS as a nation from its foundation to the present day. They make even a far fetched and well researched declaration than we have. They accept Jesus as LORD over UGANDA. They renounce all manner witchcraft, corruption, tribalism, regionalism etc.
Then here we are; CATHOLIC or NONE arguing against the declaration with impunity and pride. Pride goes before a fall. IF WE REJECT GOD, at least UGANDA has accepted him wholeheartedly. SHAME on you wicked priests! Shame on you wicked professors. Your knowledge and garments are like white washed tombs. You profess to be Christians and deny it with the same MOUTH.
