Solwezi Municipal Council has warned people involved in illegal allocation of land in the district to immediately stop their illegal activities or face the wrath of the law.

Solwezi Municipal Council Public Relations Officer Chris Mulaliki told ZANIS today that the council has received disturbing reports of people who are illegally allocating land to developers.

Mr Mulaliki said the information reaching the council is that the same people who are purporting to be Patriotic Front members are illegally allocating land claiming they are agents for the council.

He named Mushitala, Kyawama and Zambia compounds as among the areas were the council has received reports of illegal land allocation activities.

He advised members of the public to be wary of such individuals and report them to the council so that they can be prosecuted.

The Public Relations Officer also disclosed that the council will soon be moving to upgrade all the compounds under the urban renewal programme.

This follows the approval of the long awaited integrated development plan (IDP) for Solwezi by the Ministry of Local Government and Housing.

Mr Mulaliki said the ministry of local government had also approved the IDP for Lumwana, alongside that of Solwezi.

He said the council now has a guide on land use for developmental projects, adding that with the support of Lumwana mine, the council will establish a completely new central business district in the mining area, where a settlement of over 8,000 households has sprung up without proper planning for social services.

A fortnight ago, Solwezi Town Clerk Ronald Daka had complained over delays by the ministry of local government to approve the two integrated development plans.

According to Mr Daka the absence of the two plans had been holding back the implementation of a major housing project by National Pensions Authority (NAPSA) and the total urban renewal of the old Solwezi town.

  1. This problem is nationwide and can the government please say and/or do something about it? Ministry of Local Government and Housing has to spell this out in plain english and empower all local government office heads to make this a priority. People on both sides are suffering more especially the ignorant land buyers. The laws are clear but need to be reinforced so that, all the citizens are aware of what the bottomline is. This is serious!

  2. Its all the fault of PF and its cabal of empty head politicians with no plan and allowing our towns to be ruined by street vending PF school dropouts.

  3. #2 Mzambia wa zamani. You should be aware that, this problem has been prevelant in previous administrations…more recently, MMD. So, give an opinion which has some merit and don’t sound ignorant/ naive of the real issue.

  4. DON’T WON THEN JUST BRING THEM TO BOOK. ILLEGAL ALLOCATION OF LAND IS A FELONY. WE HAVE HEARD SUCH REMINDANCIES B4 WITHOUT ACTION.

  5. ANYWAY COMING BACK TO SOLWEZI- THAT’S NOT A GOOD SKY LINE FOR THE TOWN WHICH HAS THE BIGGEST MINE IN AFRICA. SOLWEZI NEEDS MODERN SHOPPING MALLS, ROADS, WATER AND SANITATION, A UNIVERSITY AND VERY GOOD SCHOOLS AND HOSPITALS BEFITTING OF A WORLD FEEDER OF COPPER.

  6. The government should also deal with the biased enrollments at nursing schools round the country. Authorities especially in the schools along the line of rail are so corrupt and unfair to recent school leavers and the youths in general. The same profile of just in-service, matures and yester-years’ grade 12’s get accepted. Fresh school leavers hardly get enrolled, and the application fees are so astronomical for an unemployed school leaver and youths. How can youth unemployment end with such happenings?
