Lions kill, eat Lundazi juvenile

Share

A Seven year old boy of Kanjungwa village in chief Kazembe’s area in Lundazi district of Eastern Province has been killed and eaten by marauding lions.

Village headman Musokoleni , Tension Mtonga , confirmed the sad development to ZANIS in Lundazi yesterday, and identified deceased boy as Salvation Nyirenda.

Mr Mtonga narrated that on the material day, around18.00hrs, the boy was having his supper at his mother’ s house when marauding lions caught and dragged him to a nearby bush where they ate his body.

He said the following morning men and women made a follow up but only recovered a skull, toes, ribs and other bones which were immediate buried before reporting to the Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) at Kazembe headquarters.

Mr Mtonga said ZAWA officers only managed to injure one lion thereby making it more dangerous.

And in a related development, a 42-year-old woman of Chunga village in chief Kazembe’s area in Lundazi is fighting for her life at Kazembe Rural Health Centre after being attacked by lions.

Ms Enelesi Nguni fell asleep in the corridor of her house before the lions attacked and left her with serious injures on her forehead, neck, left leg and chest.

When contacted for comment, a ZAWA officer at Lundazi boma who declined to be named told ZANIS that his office has since dispatched officers to chief Kazembe to control the marauding lions.

  1. The life of a human being is more important than that of the lions. Why is ZAWA not killing those beasts.Exactly this is what pf said soon they went into power, what has changed now?

  2. Apart transforming into a toothless and useless old hyena, sata can also change into a toothless old lion always targeting weaker species. He is the one behind this sad devilish act.

    • :-? Ulibe nzelu iwe chimbwi, how do you bring in the president in this issue honestly speaking? Do you want the president to issue a statement to ZAWA in Lundazi to kill the lions, the simple thing that they can decide own their own!

  3. Ibu – touche – I understand once a lion tastes human flesh it becomes a specialty; they will start preying exclusively on human beings (remember the legendary man eaters!?). Those lions must be identified and eliminated but in the meantime urgent protection measures for those villagers is key!

  4. Makes feel like we really live in a jungle…sorry to the family of the boy, poor little things…hope the lady recovers…

  5. Sad stories ndeed, but those names mwebantu!!!!!!! My cousins just can’t stop cracking me up. Tension, Salvation…lol…Just finding humour amid sorrow and I do apologize in advance if I offend some.

  6. These are now man -eating beasts and should be hunted and put down immediately. It is a well known fact that any wild or domesticated animal known to have tasted human flesh will attack again. Lions do not usually attack humans and once they do, they become very dangerous beasts. Please protect human life and not man- eating beasts!

  7. This is all due to disruptions in the food chain!!! Unbalanced eco-systems! The beasts are trying to survive…brutal as it may sound! It’s a shame that we have to suffer and yet we humans are also to blame partly!!:-?

  8. iwe ibu @ 3, this is the work of hh and his useless mps so that people like you with small minds will blame sata and his govt for it. after all those lions look like upnd supporters. kekekeke…..hahahaha….LOL!

  9. I doubt these are lions, knowing how Zambians and Juju goes in the same sentence the people in the village have killed this young boy

There are no deep jungles for Lions to survive in Zambia, where do you get the carnivorous for them them to be feeding on?

As PhD student I strongly condemn this malicious lie, and please LT check before you print anything

I am off shopping with Nick’s parents to Topshop

    Thanks

    • As PhD student? If indeed u are one u must know that lions don’t feed on carnivorous animals but herbivorous. Which primary and secondary schools did you attend? I guess ones that were formerly garages!

  10. This was a child. Juvenile is more apt with your DEC drug 14 year old’s story. RIP little one. Give those who have to capture these lions more support for their killings will not stop.

  11. #13 mushota. What a fool and dull b.i.t.c.h you are. You have no common sense. People just lost a boy in the village & you come up with this nonesense ? Are you smarter than these people who live in this village and know what they face? Just keep lying to yourself about imaginary PHDs. What a fool you are. And yes go shopping with with stinky money earned after wiping old people’s butts in home cares …stinky jobs you guys do in the so called UK.

  12. Better to move people from those areas for a while. If there is war in a country, citizens get evacuated to refugee camps.

  13. This report doesn’t make sense,”……he was eating supper at his mothers house when the lions ate him…..” The woman was also sleeping in the corridor? Ow did the lions get in the house and how does one sleep in the corridor like there is no bedroom? Lt improve your articles.

  14. It is sad development for both cases but I do not support the idea of killing the lions. The best is for ZAWA to capture them and relocate them to a secure area, (national park) away from people. These are national treasures that is why Zambia is a tourist destination

  15. Eastern Province has a history of turning their dead chiefs into Lions. I dont know if this is just a myth or real.

Too bad for the young boy. God bless him

  16. That’s right . These are now man-eaters and will now prefer human flesh ( apparently it is tasty for them ) . They will strike again ! THEY HAVE TO BE HUNTED DOWN AND PUT DOWN NOW !!!!!

  17. “Musokoleni , Tension Mtonga”….what kind of name is that? Sad story indeed. ZAWA should do their job. KILL THE DAMN LIONS and sell their remains as game souveniors full stop! But these eastern province people…hmm, this story sounds fishy….”He said the following morning men and women made a follow up but only recovered a skull, toes, ribs and other bones which were immediate buried before reporting to the Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) at Kazembe headquarters”. Make your own conclusions people!

  18. There has been an ongoing war between settlers in Eastern Province and ZAWA and hope something will be done once and for all. Preference has been given to wild animals hands down due to the lucrative tourism business for the filthy rich who go there for hunting. The park was supposed to be demarcated and animals moved a little further inwards but then ZAWA needs sponsors and thus is totally toothless on this one. Being a mother of a small boy, I feel for the family on this gruesome attack on the innocent soul. It’s unbearable! MYSRIP. ZAWA WAKE UP!
