ZNBC TV commended for reintroduction of sign language

Share

The Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services has commended Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) management for resuming sign language interpretation after suspending the exercise due to a technical problem.

Information Deputy Minister Mwansa Kapeya said government was happy with the development as it is in line with its policy of ensuring access to information for all regardless of one’s physical status.

Mr. Kapeya said the Ministry was happy because it had been receiving many queries from people over the absence of sign language interpretation on ZNBC television.

He said this in a press statement made available to ZANIS in Lusaka yesterday.

Mr. Kapeya explained that it was standard practice worldwide that sign language interpretation is provided on television so that the hearing-impaired are not left behind in the informational needs of society.

He has since encouraged other television stations in the country to emulate ZNBC in as far as sign language interpretation was concerned.

  1. ZNBC HAS GONE BACK TO ITS FORMERSELF OF BEING A GOVERMENT VUVUZELE THE OPPOSITIONS IS ONLY COVERED IN THE NEGATIVE.RADIO PHEONIX ZAMBIA HAS EQUALLY BECAME A PF MOUTH PIECE ITS NO LONGER WHERE ONLY THE BEST IS GOOD ENOUGH IN TERMS OF NEWS ITS ALWAYS PF THIS PF THAT SHAME ON YOU I NO LONGER BOTHER MY SELF LSITERNIG TO YOU PF PRAISE SINGING IS BECAUSE YOU ARE WAITING FOR THE TRIBAL GOVERNMENT TO APPROVE YOU LICENSES TO BROADCAST COUNTRY WIDE

  2. But have they taken a survey to find out how sign language interpretation has benefited zambia? And ba mudala ba Kenneth Maduma should leave news anchoring to the young.Ba Director fimo fimo ba lecinga abaice ukubelenga news?I think he does not know his functions kanofye news.what qulifications has he anyway?

  3. Good work ZNBC………………….. Please can the news writers and editors align items to clips properly. of late you get a line by the news/newscaster that is “hanging”. When the clip is run one finds no collaboration. I get a feeling that the news writers and the video clips editors are looking at stories at different angles leaving us in suspense of what the news was all about or questioning why certain clips are run. Come on People. you are paid well do your job.

  4. What technical fault is involved here?? Namibia got independent post 1990 and they have always had a sign language interpreter for their news… why is it that politics in Zambia is used for inadequacy??? I can’t understand this any more. LIES LIES LIES.

  5. There is nothing like technical fault here about givinbg sign language. When it was removed there was strong lobbying towards the minister of information who directed ZNBC to re-introduce it. No.5 yes there have been feedback to ZNBC on how useful the sign language has been to the deaf community

  6. Its was just a game of politics as usually. If it was a technical problems we offered solutions that Sign Language interpretation be done from Kitwe Studio but the Minister himself neglected this proposal. Lets have policy position paper to officially recognition of Sign Language as Deaf people official language. Plus i want to proposal regulation of Interpreters under the Ministry in collaboration with other stakeholders who include deaf themselves because quality of interpreting is far below accepted code of conduct

  7. How does that enrich the depth of znbc news coverage, last time i was i zambia i thought interns were rehearsing for the news only to identify maduma posing as a newscaster! Gee yall need serious coverage

  8. #5 And South Africa got TV in 1977 16 years after Zambia but they not only have these sign language guys they have three channels that broadcast 24 hours of the day
