President Michael Sata has said that he is saddened by the death of Mr. Crispin Menyani Zulu, a member of the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) who was killed in Rufunsa yesterday by an alleged combined group of opposition UPND and MMD cadres.

According to a statement released by his Special Assistant for Press and public Relations George Chellah in Lusaka last evening, Mr Sata described the death of Mr. Zulu as disheartening.

“It’s tragic that the political violence by the opposition UPND and MMD, which we have been preaching against, has resulted in a loss of an innocent life. As a responsible government we have said time and again that life and property will not be secure if politicians continue preaching violence,” President Sata said.

“What has happened today could have been avoided if the two opposition political parties mentioned in this heinous crime had listened and at least cared for the lives of innocent citizens.”

President Sata has directed the Zambia Police Service to ensure that the culprits are brought to book.

“These murderous acts are unacceptable and the people responsible must face the full wrath of the law. I therefore, instruct the police to do their job professionally by making sure that the perpetrators of this serious crime are dealt with accordingly,” the President said.

Yesterday, a fracas during a local government by-election in Rufunsa ended in the death of one person and serious injury to two others when political rivalry generated into violence.

Police spokesperson Elizabeth Kanjela who confirmed the death yesterday, said a male identified only as Menyani alias, Menyamenya, died in the fracas that occurred at Chimusanya ward where the by-election was taking place.

“Menyani was struck to death by some political opponents when violence erupted during voting. Two others were injured and rushed to the nearby Mumpashya hospital where one of them was treated and discharged while the other was admitted,” Ms Kanjela said.

Ms Kanjela could not however immediately say from which political parties the two warring parties belonged or what caused the fracas.

  1. Any loss of life is regrettable. But we are seeing double standards. A UPND cadre in Mufumbwe was beaten by PF cadres and had his vehicle overturned. Didn’t Sata hear that? Are his ears only tuned to violence against his members?

    • iwe are you naive? death and the vehichle being turned are not the same. how could you be so heartless ? who will take care of his children/ and what was a UPND cadre doing as if they were contesting? damn. killing isnt good

    • iwe its a near death experience ala. even the undead was beaten to pulp so unless he died he should be given ear by your presido? just accept we have a hypocrite in plot 1

    • Ba Mainga Mulichipuba … you need to see through and between the lines that causing death is unacceptable in Zambia. Are you truly a Zambian citizen? You seem to have forgotten what our good moralled parents were teaching us. I see you’ve lost it my friend. What a shame! Death is not an excuse in any rivalry … be it political or not. Mwatusebanya bane!!!

  2. Were ever UPND is contesting there is violence. Can we conclude that the violent party in Zambia is UPND? …I think yes it is. Now they have killed and are happy. They always preach violence. What a shame really.

Peace and Prosperity to Mother Zambia.

  3. His excellency certainly looks different from his fully darkskinned african skin like myself. What are the the guys laughing at in the background? Were classified as hot stuff here on the east coast of Aussie here. Would never change it for anything.

  4. No, this would  not have happened if the Police was doing  their job, and not listening to stupid Politicians like yourself.  You are the President of Zambia, not PF or Bembas or The Catholic Church, Act like one.:-w

  5. When HH was attacked by PF cadres, the president didn’t make any comment. We expected him to condemn the act. Violence has not been seriously condemned by the president in this country. Its no suprise that people are now killing. Please God help our leaders to see things in your eyes.

    • you think a dying is the same as you HH being mobbed? it shoud have been your brother and you wouldnt talk s**t like that

  6. Of course Satan is a devouted and practising catholic super opportunist who condemns only when it suits him.He has never seen any log worth removing in his so perfect eyes.

  9. MONEY..MONEY…MONEY..WHY KILLING EACH OTHER OVER MONEY,,,,PLS FELLOW HUNGRY PF CADRES LETS US NOT KILL EACH OTHER…PLAY A CLEAN POLITICAL GAME…ME IAM ENJOYING IT WITH HON. SAMPA.

  10. MONEY..MONEY…MONEY..WHY KILLING EACH OTHER OVER MONEY,,,,PLS FELLOW HUNGRY PF CADRES LETS US NOT KILL EACH OTHER…PLAY A CLEAN POLITICAL GAME…ME IAM ENJOYING IT WITH HON. SAMPA…

  11. @ Bongwe – I notice you’ve posted twice saying that you can’t compare someone’s death with mere physical assault. Perhaps that is so. Only, I’m sure you know that physical assault is also illegal and can easily lead to someone’s death so wonder where exactly you draw the line? Is it OK in politics to be violent and use physical intimidation as long as you don’t kill someone?  Is that what PF stands for? Frankly, if you talk like that I suppose you must also agree that William Banda was in the right with all the crap he pulled!

Sorry, my friend but it seems to me you are standing on a very slippery slope with that argument and would do far better to think about how to build Zambia’s fledgling democracy. After all, your party was elected to “lead” the nation.

  12. MONEY..MONEY…MONEY..WHY KILLING EACH OTHER OVER MONEY,,,,PLS FELLOW HUNGRY PF CADRES LETS US NOT KILL EACH OTHER…PLAY A CLEAN POLITICAL GAME…ME IAM ENJOYING IT WITH HON. SAMPA…nothing better from the old SATA

  13. If he has saddened how about a state funeral as has become the precedence

This is disturbing me, I am busy researching for my PhD i don’t want to be hearing this

    Thank you

  14. sad news indeed, ths is as th result of lose legal justice!why would gvmnt take so long without a tangible stance on serious policies such as`DEATH SENTENCE`ths is an eye opener to gvnt to save the inocent by emplementing wat is due.sory to de believed family.

  15. The guy was found at Intercity Bus Termus. So what was he doing in Rufunsa for a mere Ward by Elections?

PF stop abusing poor people with a promise of a shake shake pack. See what has happened. Sata must NOT Blame the opposition even before the Police Conclude their investigations.

The family must demand hefty compasation from PF for the death of their relative.

  16. SATA SHOULD START BY TEACHING HIS CADRES TO DESIST FROM VIOLENCE. PF CADRES HAVE A FALSE IMPRESSION TO THINK THAT THEY CAN DO ANYTHING THEY WANT TO ANYBODY AT ANY TIME.IF YOU YOURSELF ARE VIOLENT, THEN VIOLENCE WILL OVERTAKE YOU. SATA SHOULD ACT LIKE A PRESIDENT OF ALL ZAMBIANS, NOT A PRESIDENT OF PF CADRES. WE ALL DON’T WANT DEATH, BUT PF CADRES SHOULD HAVE MANNERS AND RESPECT THOSE MANY OTHER ZAMBIANS WHO BELONG TO OTHER PARTIES.

  17. The problem with Satan and his angels is that, they pretend to be working and yet they wait to be told what to do next if not then they will wait until someone loses his life. And again wait to be told to go and investigate. Prevention is better than cure.

  18. @Mushota #18
    Hi there,
Nice to ready more from you and it is like I have not communicated anything to you in a hundred years. I can see this imagined picture of Mushota studying and leaning towards her computor around the clock. Just whisper love and slowly close your eyes then create this picture of the Maldevs islands or our neighbour Mauritius. Finally, my love go into a deep sleep and dream about our sunny golden crispy beaches and wearing only a bikin. Try to be romantic all the time Mushota and do not worry yourself too much with academic work. Send me some juicy stuff and bye Miss intelligent. Take care.

  19. “people responsible must face the full wrath of the law. I therefore, instruct the police to do their job professionally”

    this should apply to Kapoko

  20. Whisper; has madam come back home? Some one tell. It will be good for him and the nation because he needs someone to take care of him.

  21. @Mushota#18
Okay my love picture this story as follows; considering that you softly said to me and no one else but me through our two way posts on this medium of communication that “hey ‘men’ I do not know what to say anymore”. Before I say so many things, your imagined voice sounded very sexy and soft. I imagined a lot of things and I lost track of a lot of events which I was doing at that particular stage. Anyway you have an imposing personality. Please, attach your latest picture next to your posts in the future. Please, I am still waiting for the Zambian address because I am not kidding you my love.

  22. This guy was killed by his fellow PF chaps over the sharing of campaign money. PF should be civilised enough to admit some wrongs. What kind of animals are these things!!!

  23. The dog’s version of the same story : “Patriotic Front Cadres in Rufunsa have killed each other over money.
A PF cadre just named as Zulu has been killed by his fellow PF members but the government is trying to accuse the opposition MMD and UPND.
A senior security official has told the Zambian Watchdog that some PF cadres who were ferried from Lusaka with the help of Silvia Masebo and Geofrey Chumbwe to Rufunsa for local government Bye-Elections fought over how to share money and in the process one PF cadre has been reported to have been killed”. The DOG claims it has more influence than the POST..ata se

  24. #18 Mushota – Your grammar is atrocious. What has doing a PhD got to do with an individuals death? If you are doing a PhD it likely to be from an inferior institution. You certainly come across as a brainless half wit who probably came to the UK as an adult unlike a few of us who were sent to boarding school at a young age, hence your inferiority complex. We don’t view living in the UK as such an incredible achievement or the idea that a person studying for PhD is somehow above others. Learned people in the UK don’t even discuss one’s education or qualifications.

  25. I thot since the DOG moves on four wheels, it could have quickly run to the place and verified the report or incidence before reporting on on hearsay!

  26. This is why Sata wont condone public order act, because looks now UPND wants violence every time some kind of gathering is taking place and later on themselves opposition leaders want to blame PF for their reckless acts and behaviors.

  27. Its just better that its a PF cadre, they have more thugs to spare, Menyamenya was not an innocent civilian. What was he doing in Mufumbwe all the way from Lusaka?

  28. People, donot be cheated, there are two versions of this cadre death story in Lufunsa. The first and most likely is that the PF cadres faught over the sharing of “spoils” money. The second version and very unlikely, the cadre was killed by MMD/UPND. Ask yourself, the police seem to be taking their time and NO mention of [political parties, or suspects. Come on, the Parthetic Fooools killed themselves, just like Wynter and GBM will kill each other and then blame UPND/MMD.

  29. We just have to wait for investigations to be concluded unlike making conclusions and accussing the opposition parties.
