Government received CCZ letter on Kapoko’s acquittal with a heavy heart

Government says it has received some of the contents in the pastoral letter issued by the Christian Council of Zambia (CCZ) general secretary, Rev Suszanne Matale, with a heavy heart.

According to a statement issued by Information and Broadcasting Services Minister, Kennedy Sakeni, some contents of the pastoral letter were exaggerated and distorted.

Mr Sakeni, who is also government spokesperson, observed that some contents of the pastoral letter were glaring and based on assumptions.

He said it is not government’s intention to respond to the church whenever sound and honest guidance or counsel is provided.

However, Mr Sakeni stressed that government is duty-bond to inform the general citizenry, especially when events or situations are being described in a manner that is not accurate.

Mr Sakeni said the state was disturbed seeing CCZ embarking on a campaign full of distortions when the church was supposed to be in the forefront championing social justice and peace.

He charged that some parts of the pastoral letter contained exaggerated proclamations.

“The acquittal of Henry Kapoko and his accomplices is very suspect in our view to say the least. This takes away the confidence that people have in the government to effectively fight corruption,” read parts of the pastoral letter.

Mr Sakeni reiterated that government has never had a hand in the decisions of the judiciary in the dispensation of justice.

He wondered how government would have had a hand when the PF is just a year in office, adding that the case has been in the courts of law for a long time.

Mr Sakeni described the inflammatory statement by the CCZ as unfortunate and unfair on the part of the government.

He has since appealed to CCZ to speak with facts and evidence while leaving speculative talk and rumour-mongering to politicians.

Mr Sakeni reiterated that government remains committed in upholding the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary.

And commenting on the just ended by-elections, Mr Sakeni challenged CCZ to provide evidence showing that government resources were used during the campaigns.

He said government will never engage in politics of quick fix development as such politics belong to the past administration.

Mr Sakeni challenged CCZ to name culprits involved in the alleged activities, adding that failing to do so will only fall away as mere political talk.

The minister has since appealed to individuals in CCZ with political ambitions and inclination to come out in the open and join their preferred political parties.

He said government remains open to dialogue and other progressive engagement with all stakeholders in a bid to collectively improve the quality of livelihood of the Zambian people.

  1. oh this man is ugly, no wonder he makes ugly comments. the pf should appoint another person as their spokesman, a person who should feel ashamed of making shameful comments on the country’s affairs. a person with a heart for the the people’s feelings and also an idea on the impact the comments will have on the people of zambia.

    • Sure this government has alot of ugly people, I wonder how the world imagines Zambians as a whole. Maybe they imagine 13million faces like Sakeni, Kabimba and worse of them Sata lol, we need a fair representation

  2. Thanks for the article on minister Sakeni, but guys. that is not how you write a story, while your news gathering and facts may be right, the author did not bother to give enough background about 1. the judgement on Kapoko
    2. A summary or link of/to the pastoral letter and what Rev Matale said.
Imagine someone was reading the article for the first time, did you expect them to go looking for the judgement or worse still the pastoral letter? Do they have all the time?
I appreciate your articles but let their be depth in your news gathering and greater analysis

  3. 1# never call people ugly. that man was created by God. I dont like of perhaps just like but at the end of the day its just politics. Todays liberaters are tomorrows oppressers. NEVERS MUMBA. HH. even CHIPIMO . will equally get mean once they hold instrumentss of power. they are all bad and real bad.

  4. Good work CCZ board for having advised the Rev to be non partisan.Rev Susan what you have done by heeding to the advise of the board id good for the church and your self.

  5. Anyone who has observed law and ethics will see that most of the time CCZ is speaking for the case of ethics. It is always the case that a lawful act violates an ethical situation. This is what we are talking about. Investing into how people grow their wealth, for example, will ensure that ethical behavior is upheld. So, Mister Minister, CCZ may not have the facts you are looking for – they are crying for fair play on the ethical playground; this is something difficult to achieve but always gives useful signals to help governance.

  6. WELL DONE REVEREND CONTINUE SPEAKING FOR THE MASSES. THERE IS SO MUCH NEPOTISIM INJUSTICE AND TRIBALISM SATA IS THE MOST EVIL PRESISDENT ZAMBIA HAS EVER HAD.

  7. Sakeni should have just replied that he would pass the letter to the minister of justice for action. This whole Kapoko thug issue has to do with how the PF raised funds for their campaigns.

  8. This man should stop wasting space. This government is bussy pushing the judiciary around and think we can be fooled with un reasoned responses like this. How come Kapoko’s uncle just shortly after this fake acquital was appointed into diplomatic services? If the government has no hand in judicial decissions, well and good but are they not concerned that glaring corruption has been covered up here by an incompetent judiciary? When the Malawian judge’s tribunal was stopped by the High Court, it was the same government which trumpeted all sorts of issues and appealed the ruling. Why are they not interested in this issue now? Fake PF

THIS MATTER WAS EXAGGERATED BY MUMEMBE THE POST AND ANNA CHIFUNGULA WHO HAVE NO SHAME. MEANWHILE TALK AND GET THE IMPROPERLY STOLEN 14billion KWACHA BY THE DPP  NCHITO AND MUMEMBE. NOT THIS CRAP KAPOKO STORY WITH DULY EARNED CONTRACT GIVEN BY MOH. THAT’S JUSTICE!!

  11. if you have not played any role in this aquittal, then just appeal intead of looking for excuses that do not hold water mr. minister. by the way, what is the minister of justice.s comments on this one. he is just too serene.

  12. Ok Mr GRZ spokesman, you have commented on Kapoko’s acquittal it’s enough.
The people are wondering why you are playing hide and seek without any comment on the ‘First lady’s’ disappearance from State house. This is a very serious issue which needs to be clarified to avoid negative rumours gaining more ground. It very much has an effect on the integrity of the president. In the USA the CIA director has just resigned over an affair with another woman.

  13. Kapoko stole money to FUND the PF hence his been rewarded for the JOB WELL DONE with an ACQUITTAL and JOB for his UNCLE ABROAD ( what junk we have in these missions pure laughing stock) so mr spokes person or lies vuvuzela do a better job before you decide to come out with your salaula suits and lie like you are telling bed side stories to your kids.
